Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

The steady improvement in STs wasn't a mirage.

We ended up 13th overall is ST DVOA per Football Outsiders.

  • 9th in FG/XP
  • 13th in KO coverage
  • 14th in KO return
  • 23rd in Punting
  • 16th in Punt return

SF has wins over Sea x2, TB, LAC, and Miami (all playoff teams)

Eagles have wins over NYG x2, Dal, Jax and Minny.

That argument doesn’t really hold up

Is the cutoff at .500? If so you forgot that we beat Detroit too. They finished with the same record as Seattle and Miami. And Washington finished at .500. Also it's not our fault that the Titans turned to crap after we destroyed them. At the time that was a convincing win against a good team.

The 49ers schedule was significantly easier than ours.

Football is more like baseball than basketball.  The players need some seasoning

No you are not mistaken but for the majority of the bowls the revenues added to the local tourism economy far exceeds their TV revenues.

So that helps the community but not the bowl itself.  I understand your point about helping the local community but the bowl still needs to worry about its own revenues.   Things will get trickier if the tv revenues start to decline and yes I do expect that to happen over time.

The KO coverage improved for sure, Scott was far better than Covey in the KR game, and Covey was far better as a punt returner over the last stretch of games.  The punting declined due to injury which sucks but hard to be upset with that one.  Elliott has been excellent.  Solid overall.

Felt like they turned a corner when they elevated Elliss to the unit. He’s been big there.

No alphas original post stated "contenders”. To me, that is playoff teams only.

Reagor at the national championship game pretty much put the nail in the coffin for TCU

I casually looked up Reagor's receiving stats the other day when I was looking at league-wide punt return stats (yes Covey finished in the top ten). He only had six catches the entire year. I have a strong suspicion that we're not getting that fourth round pick.

Anyone that would trade for that bum deserves to lose a 4th RD pick lol

In my opinion a good product is a hard fault, fairly close, fairly exciting game. You dont care of any of those things

I do, depending on the team.  All sports have blowouts.

Were you upset when the Eagles blew out the Giants, or the Steelers ??

No those fan bases only make up a small, very tiny part of the viewing fan base.

But you've answered my question.

It;s not about the product, it's not about a good viewing game, or a competitive game, it's about watching 2-3 programs you love, steam roll crap competition and watching 2-3 programs you hate get smacked.

In my opinion a good product is a hard fault, fairly close, fairly exciting game. You dont care of any of those things

The Semi Finals were as good as it gets.

Not Georgia's fault TCU forgot how to play football.

Don't players also vote in pro bowl or is that now just fans? I do kind of like the filter ideas they had like only current players and can't vote for players on your own team. Also voting in your own position group or the position group that you play against is good

TCU didnt belong there.

they lose to michigan 9 out of 10 times, probably get blown out 5 of those 9 times.

But thats a debate for another day.

Only reason Georgia made it was because Marvin Harrison Jr. got a concussion.  That dude is ridiculous

Not like it mattered. Georgia would've smoked Michigan too.

My experience with bowls is that the are nonprofit public benefit organizations that distribute any surplus income to the community in the form of financing of projects

He was abusing the UGA secondary. No doubt about it. Ringo couldn't even cover him.

But you gotta give props to Stetson Bennett and that UGA offense for clawing back into the game.

Nope. but what you keep missing is, that week of the NFl I'd say 70-80% of the games were close, 1 score games.

Nope.  13 games, 6 blowouts, 7 non blowouts.  Average margin of victory, blowout.

That won't fix the competitive balance.  Mark my words, the imbalance will get worse, not better.  We are see it already with the creation of the mega-conferences and the demise of the other conferences.

There used to be the SEC, ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 8, SWC, and Pac-8/10 - and some sizable independent schools.  And getting a bid to a bowl game was a really big deal.  Then, the conferences started to recruit from other conferences, recruit the independents...  And now that process is accelerating to the point that there's going to be two main conferences... and everyone else will be in a much lower tier.

There is balance where there should be, in the conferences that teams belong to. Let’s face it, no conference is competitive with the SEC.  The Big 10 is now its competitor but kind of second place.  But there are historic teams in both that really don’t fit well.  Those teams will continue to move in conferences until they get a fit.  Folks are making too big a deal out of the "championship”.  Fleeting excitement.  Long term it’s the conference. And it is not necessarily the football conference. There are other sports.

From that perspective the communities would stand to suffer should the income from tv drop.  Maybe all the other revenue sources stay the same but it will be a negative for them if income from tv drops.

Question.  Do you ever get tired of being wrong.

Follow up question.  Did you expect your first day back from a month off you would just get absolutely destroyed for your hot takes.
