Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Again, we were 1-5 in the RZ vs the Giants.  Thats with a joke playbook and a rusty Hurts.

This isnt like 2017 at all

The Saints was BAD. Last week wasn’t good but they were clearly just playing not to lose.

I’m confident we’ll get the late November/early December birds.

37.5% of the head coaches in the upcoming divisional round will be current or former Eagles coaches.

That goes to 50% if Baltimore advances and you count former assistants.

Genuinely question:

Do you believe a healthy Jalen Hurts loses to New Orleans?

or

Do you believe Minshew will get significant time in our divisional round game?

We had about as many first downs on the opening drive against NYG as we did all game against NO. It’s not just about QB competency difference, it’s about how the team responded to the QBs… it was night and day. Just ask AJ.

Only because we had 2 turnovers and the Falcons had zero.  Overall in 3 games of the 2017 playoffs we outscored our opponents 94-50, which was against a good Atlanta team, a great Vikings team, and a great Patriots team with Brady at the helm.

Dominant performance by a dominant team.  Even though we didn't play well in December, because December meant nothing.

I don’t disagree I just think a lot of people conveniently forget how close we were to losing that game. The first half was bad and we might have only survived because of Neal jumping for some reason on an easy INT. That really felt like the turning point for the entire team to flip the switch back to on.

No and no.  But do you believe we’ll get a healthy Jalen Hurts at his best in the divisional round game?

He doesn’t need to be his best for the team to respond to his presence. There were clearly issues not only with the offensive performance but also just with Minshew himself.

Yup. The only good thing CBS has is their college football jingle from the 80’s.

The absolute best.

There is some heavy duty rationalization going on in here. Given the way the team has played over the last month, I'm not at all confident that the Eagles can flip the switch for the playoffs.

You may be right.

Jonathan Gannon is the front-runner for the Texans job. No surprise, as he would have been hired last year if not for the Flores lawsuit.

One of these two things will happen
- Gannon is awesome in the playoffs and we're sad he leaves (means Eagles playoff success)
- Gannon refuses to adjust again and we're happy to get someone new (means Eagles playoff failure)

The Eagles are the biggest mystery in the NFL.

Is it possible that, starting in divisional playoff and extending through the SB, that the Eagles just obliterate teams in the trenches, Hurts makes plays in the air and on the ground that are unstoppable, and the secondary returns to a pick fest?  Yes, all possible.  They've done it before; they can do it again.  They'll either win the SB or come damn close if that happens.  But anyone assuming the Eagles will automatically return to that level once the playoffs start is just a hopeful fan.

It will be very, very hard to return to that level with how bad they've been for almost 2 months.  And make no mistake...they've been BAD.

If they can return to October, they'll cruise past SF.  If they can't get all systems back online, they'll get their doors blown off.....IF they even make it to the NFCCG.

I'm not saying they won't return to October.  I'm not saying they will.  I'm saying that anyone who pretends to know is doing just that...pretending or fooling themselves.  The Eagles are a very unpredictable playoff team.

You may be right.

We were a better timed jump from Julio Jones from losing that game on the last pass.

Also, we played like dog food in the Raiders game that clinched the #1 seed just like we did against the Giants last week.  Not that you want a letdown late in the year like that but it does happen and doesn't always mean the house is falling.

In retrospect Wentz and a lack of talent at WR were  the bigger reasons  for the sputtering offense. So when the offensive line was decimated by injuries the team looked terrible. Howie and Lurie  not knowing how to draft a WR has more to do with it than Doug’s assistants.

Systemic failure going back much further than Doug's tenure as HC... even going back to before Doug ever suited up as the Eagles QB.  And it is no coincidence that none of the WRs from 2019-2020 are still with the team.   Yes, the rookie 6th rounder in 2020 Quez Watkins remains, but he was an afterthought for the 2020 team, buried behind players that had to play to justify their draft position... JJAW and Reagor.

Those 7 losses you are counting are shootout losses or overtime when they go 3 on 3. Usually not weighted the same as a regular loss due to that. Hence it’s own category in the standings/record. And you still get a point for it.

When they win one of those games it counts fully in the Wins column.  You are deluding yourself with 18 and 18.

If Steichen and Gannon are hired, how many of our current assistants follow?

Gannon brought more defensive guys in than Steichen because of Sirianni's offensive background, so it depends.

I'd assume Tracy Rocker and Rallis go, as they're both tight with Gannon.

No Sweat most recently.  No CJGJ during that whole time.  They are both back for the playoffs and should be as close to 100% as anyone in the playoffs.  They've got the vets at DT now that they didn't have when they were blowing teams out to start the year.  Joseph, Suh and Davis add to Cox and Hargrave, and they should all be fresher than they would be without each other.  Reddick, Sweat and BG add a well rested Robert Quinn to the mix.  Can he show any of the guy that put up 16 sacks last year if he's used in short spurts?

Defense has some concerns, but I trust that they can be able to compete with any team they matchup with.  Scott should be a spectator.  That should be a major benefit.  CJGJ in the slot and Blankenship at S when in nickel.  Not ideal, but better than Scott ever.   And then CJGJ back at safety in base.

Offensively... the whole thing really comes down to three things:  Hurts' shoulder, Lane's abductor, and Sanders' knee.  If they can all play at a high level, they can score on anyone.  How long does that last?  That's the real question for me.

Destroy Packers/Titans/Giants then come in flat vs. Bears in a trap game ahead of Dallas.  Two games with Minshew, one of which he plays well in and barley loses (we should have won that game), and one in which he blows chunks.  Then a handcuffed Hurts is told to basically just manage the game and avoid any injury and we comfortably (not impressively) beat the Giants to secure the #1 seed.  Next week a couple of the other guys are coming back and Hurts will be cut loose again.  Not having Maddox hurts but CGJ is back and Blankenship has emerged.  Assuming Hurts is ok the big question then becomes Johnson.  There is every chance that the team returns to form and every reason to hope for that BUT, just as you say, it cannot be assumed.

Really it could go either way and likely will be something in the middle.

Howie made the point that Hurts was Doug’s pick, he convinced the FO to take a chance on a 2nd round QB while they had a franchise guy already. Let me try and find the transcript

In that case, Howie gets no credit for Hurts now.  Can't have it both ways.

If SF were to win the SB, that would be 14 straight wins with mostly a rookie QB who was the last pick of the entire draft.

Pretty impressive if it happens but I don't see it.  I can see them making it to the SB but don't see them beating KC, Buffalo or Cincy.

Hollywood ending though.

I’m not doing anything. That’s how most of the hockey world views overtime and shootout losses. They don’t count the same as what a regulation loss. Hence why both teams get least get 1 point when it goes to OT. You don’t get any points with a regulation loss. Because they completely change the rules. Frankly, I think it’s stupid that they go to three on three for five minutes and then go to a shootout to decide it.  completely changing the game because you just don’t want it ended in a tie but don’t want to be there all night.

Twitter is a wild place. There’s actually people saying that the chargers should have ran the ball more in the 2nd half in order to waste more clock. meanwhile, the running backs had 7 carries and had 7 total rush yards. And up until the last drive of the second half, the chargers didn’t have a 3 and out. even with the 3 and out the clock ran the entire time. Running the ball there and doing nothing with it wouldve resulted in the same thing

The Chargers needed to develop a running game to complement their passing game during the course of the season.

More concerned about losing Steichen than Gannon.  No problem replacing Gannon with Vic Fangio or another experienced DC.

Or even our old friend Gym Shorts...

Bills made a mistake there.   Just take the points.
