If they’re hell bent on having a seventh playoff team, have the 6/7 play for the right to face the 1 seed. Then the second seed still gets a bye.

So you give the top two seeds a bye, and have 6 and 7 play each other for the right to play the top seed the next week? Okay. So do 3, 4, and 5 have a three-way then while this is going on?

It sounds to me like you’ve left yourself with an odd number of teams advancing.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

I mean…that’s about the most cerebral player in nfl history.

It was just a year ago national media types cried you know what for him not getting a head coaching job.

Yep. Battle Royale style.

Weren’t they a top 10 defense? Outside of Barrett, they’re as healthy as they’ve been, no?

Tbh exclude week 18 cause they really didn’t play everyone cause it was essentially meaningless. Their last 4 games they had given up 27.3 ppg. Tonight it should’ve been 35 if Maher could kick. Ford Tom th of the season they looked good against Dallas and GB. But since then KC scored 41, SF scored 35, Dallas scored 31, cincy scored 34 and Baltimore (with lamar) scored 27. Frankly Todd bowles has been bad as a defensive HC this year when playing against good offenses.

They should just remove the 7th seed but they’re not going to. At minimum I think they should just have the 6 games on the actual weekend 3 sat/sun <_<

When the only time your offense is any good is when a 45 year old QB decides to go no-huddle, yeah, it’s time to go.

Whole Bucs team looked awful.  Like the Eagles looked in last year’s WC game.  Dallas looked good but not like the 49ers D yesterday.  Fournette is done.  Brady made Minshew’s performance against Dallas look All Pro.  He is done.  Smartest thing he could do tomorrow is retire and not come back.  Ugly performance from him all around.

Weren’t they pretty beat up though? No Barrett, Hicks missed time, Vea, Davis, Winfield, etc?

16 games with 6 playoff teams and 2 byes was perfect.

The demand for football will always outpace the number of weeks it’s played.  More weeks and more playoff teams are a money grab…captain obvious here…everyone knows this.

They had already settled in on the most elegant format.

Might be better off keeping Leftwich and firing Bowles.

Bowles is a good DC but an awful HC.  He has the enthusiasm and energy of an 80 year old priest.  I don't see how his team could get up to play for him.

The AFC games were interesting. The only thing that saved the NFC from being a snoozefest was that the Vikings are/were frauds.

I don’t think left, which is that great of a coach. But I feel for him because there’s bigger issues that their offensive coordinator. They’re Owain all year has been banged up and even when they’re healthy they can’t run the ball. They are awful at running the ball. That was the Chargers biggest issue is that they are forced to pass way more than they should because just can’t run. Some of that is fournette looks cooked. But white looks fine when he actually gets blocks.

Tom Brady has not looked good this year. It was a significant drop off from last year to this year. Maybe it’s the divorce and it’s got him playing this horribly. But it’s also 45 so it might just be at the end.

i’d also say I’ve watched a couple of games, wide receivers just running wrong routes or dropping balls (particularly early in the year). Mike Evans had that 200 yard game. But there was like 5 to 6 weeks where he was nonexistent in that whole fence. Some of that I think goes on Leftwich because he should’ve been trying to get him more involved when he is that good of a player.

someone was going to have to fall on the sword, but it felt like this offense was never on the same page since week one. Some on leftwich but i think there’s bigger issues

So four teams from the NFC standing after Wild Card Weekend and three are from the NFC East.

I’d have to go back and look.

I thought tonight was more a bad game plan and I think guys checked out. A couple of posts previously I made a conspiracy theory with the Bucs and chemistry issues. I think there’s a chemistry problem on this team. I don’t think players appreciated Tom Brady doing what he did last off-season. And then he wasn’t that good this year and they’re busting their ass for a guy who’s just going off on the sidelines when he’s also not playing well. I kind of think the Bucs got to the playoffs. They were happy that they did it then when they saw Brady and the offense be nonexistent to start the game just checked out

I thought the Bills/Dolphins game was pretty laborious.  Dolphins sucked without a qb and the Bills got caught with their pants down not wanting to play the game.  In the old format, that game doesn’t happen and I’m ok with that.  I think the Bills earned a bye too.

And we all could have done without the SF/SEA game.

I'm not sure, I'm just going off what I've seen. I don't think they're a flat-out bad defense, just a pretty average one.

As quasi Bucs fans this year (since we were rooting like hell that the Saints don’t win the division while knowing the Falcons and Panthers were likely incapable), we had more than a casual interest in their games. Wasn’t it obvious all along that they were a seriously flawed team? The offense was inept for large stretches. Brady was wildly inaccurate at times, missing routine throws all over the damn yard. They couldn’t run the ball. Their offensive line wasn’t good. seriously, did any of us actually expect them to win tonight? I was rooting for it, but I wasn’t getting my hopes up.

On the other hand, I think the Cowboys have been better than most of our fans have been willing to admit. They can win next week. If they do, I hope it’s us they’re playing (well duh, Captain Obvious) because I don’t think the Giants can beat them.

They finished 13th in DVOA for what it’s worth.

They should’ve kept Bruce Arians. And not forced him out which stems a lot from Brady again I can’t imagine being in a locker room knowing that brady pushed another guy out of his job and was still trying to go somewhere else. If I was a player in that locker room and I saw this guy trying to abandon ship and he got somebody I really respect removed out of his then come in and look like crap, I’d be way less motivated. frankly really find myself having issues playing alongside someone like that.

Really, really happy the Giants won.

Yep. Would have been brutal beating Dallas and the 49ers

I know in the beginning of November their run defense was 19th in dvoa. And for a 5 week stretch was 29th. What did their run defense ultimately finish at?

Unitas too, I read.

And one of our own, the Dutchman, ran the offense while they were winning.  He WAS the OC.

But, yeah, Peyton is up there for sure.
