The league sure is using it a helluva lot if they have such a problem with it.

Almost every team does it now.  All perfectly legal, they can complain to the Rules Committee

I rather they get rid of the DL false start penalty (i.e., strict neutral zone monitoring) as a balance - you know make the rules simpler.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Yes it was

Technically it may have been, but not a very big one.  I expected them to win...many people did.  I have zero faith in the Cousins and the Vikings

Yes.

This is the game where we want to play zone coverage with an extra player in the box, as it limits what Jones can do as a runner + helps against Barkley. If the Giants want to test us deep, so be it.

Yeah, I'd figure C2 but I'd like C3 to get Reed into the box.

Well, I expect quarters until Gannon is forced out of it.

Agreed. We did a lot of this in the first Giants game and did pretty well.

Driscoll hasn't been bad. The Eagles didn't hide him at all in his two starts and he held up fairly decently.

If you look at how bad Evan Neil has been for the Giants, I would be way more concerned about their right tackle than ours even if Lane can't go.

I think people get used to seeing Lane, and think that's how right tackles are supposed to look. The truth is that probably half the starting right tackles in the league are way closer to Driscoll than they are to Lane.

I asked for and got the following assessment of Driscoll from justrelax …

So, I watched every snap of Driscoll’s in the Saints game and the last Giant game.

Yes, he’s bottom 25%. His technique is decent enough but he has no pop. On run plays he can screen off and ride a guy down the line but as a drive blocker, well, he isn’t one. There were any number of run plays where he would pull and somehow not find anyone to block. He’s supposed to be a bright guy but he didn’t look it.

Against Cameron Jordan he was dominated physically. His arms are shorter than Jordan’s and the latter could control him with one arm and Driscoll couldn’t reach him. Cameron put him on skates a bunch of times. He had three sacks and could have had more.

Against the Giants, who can tell? He faced two second stringers, smaller guys who couldn’t overpower him.

Oh good - I was expecting the usual game plan despite the opponent.

I'm looking for Reddick to have a break out game.  People may actually realize hes on our team and having a nice little season.  Maybe.

Wentz' $34M dead cap hit used to be the largest.

But like his career, even that is fading away.

Yup.  Would require a rule change.  And what would they say... "Only one player is permitted to push a player in a scrum"?  How do you enforce that?  In a scrum, how do you know how is pushing whom?  Could be pushing defender, or ball carrier?  Or pushing another blocker...

I hate that they are using Hurts as a battering ram... but I've said my piece on it.   It is effective with him.  The fact that the coaches went back to that well with Minshew is my bigger concern.  It's like they have forgotten that other plays are allowed in those short yardage situations.

I’d add teams are complaining about the eagles sneak but where’s the complaint about Ezra cleveland in the giants/Vikings game. He runs from 8 yards away to the pile at full force and blatantly hits the giants defender in the back to push the pile forward so they can pick up the first down. So you had a block in the back (penalty) and pushing the pile forward by a 300+ pound lineman running full force. that’s very dangerous play and if we are gonna complain about something I’m complaining about olineman blatantly delivering massive block to the back of defenseless players

He's been balling out this season

I wasn't expecting teams to break it but I guess teams are more willing to pull the trigger and deal with it now rather than later

Exactly, on both points.

I dont mind the rule at all, I know you may disagree.  But I like forcing teams to innovate and it's a decision point: do we take the easy candy and subject our QB to the mass of humanity with a sneak?  Or do we try to come up with safer ideas for Inches-To-Go situations?

The fact is that the Eagles identified a strength and have been abusing the league with it.  So almost every team has followed suit.  It works.

On your last point, oddly, that is why Im quietly confident going into this game.  The more I look back on the last 3 weeks of the season, the more I believe the coaches were just playing a risky game where they held everything close to the vest and went with bland gameplans.  It almost burned them big time.    But my brain cant process how bad the coaching was vs. Dallas and NO at times.   The Giants game was thankfully a walkthrough, so it bailed the coaches out a little bit

The rule is fine by me.  I hate what the Eagles are doing with the rule.

This is a place that would be awesome for Brian Johnson. I think Chargers will probably go with a bigger name though.

NOOOO!  He's the new OC here when Steichen leaves.

CGJ is in the age range of guys Howie like to give big deals to. Both are Florida guys. I could see the extension happening.

I'm feeling a single high safety for this game.  8 in the box.

I'd very obviously not want to lose him. But it kind of feels like neither coordinator is a favorite for a job at this point and very possible Johnson is the one we end up losing.

It's not a scrum.  Its a maul.

The ball is on the ground during a scrum.  The ball is being carried during a maul.

100%.  Stop the run. Stop the QB runs. I will take the results of single coverage all day long.  We have the horses to do it in the secondary and the Dline will keep that clock ticking fast in Jones' head resulting in some less than perfect throws.

Folks here have Buddy and JJ on pedestals.

But Schwartz was the one that delivered in the post season.

I think fans here hate off coverage more than the Cowboys.

2nd team all-pro... but Mike Parson gets a whole different level of love despite similar numbers.
