Don't know if you saw this, I am not finding anything to break it down since the change.

I'm guessing this is all screens not RB screens but yeah looks like birds are right in the middle.

You've never seen an unbalanced line before?

Definitely puts the MIKE in a bind - he wants to counter the sneak but Kenny G has the blocking leverage behind Mailata/Dickerson.

Hurts is way better than Wentz was at screens.  Hurts' ball placement and composure is on point. I dont think thats it.

I actually wonder if the recent NFL fixation with ineligible men downfield discourages the classic screen.  Maybe its just not worth the risk/reward when you can essentially accomplish the same goal with the WR screen.   Far less movement at the LOS, no risk of your QB getting killed, more green space for the receiver to catch and run...

Instead we run the WR screen and still get a bunch of illegal man down field penalties.  We are the most penalized team for that.

I think a play that has helped a lot that they use quite a bit is where they drop one of the tackles inside post snap and have one if the guards pull around to block the edge.

The post snap motion looks like a trap play and forces the outside rusher to hesitate and keep his run gap responsibility allowing hurts more time in the pocket

The 2nd play that went for 40 to devonte Smith Mailata dropped to the inside and Seumalo pulled around to block the edge which had froze like a deer in the headlights

The eagles seem to do it when they are trying to set up a deep shot as it allows the extra time needed to attempt a shot.

Great stuff by Southland, not sure how many if any other teams do this with their OL?

I sent your post above to justrelax and it brought a smile to his face … and the following response.

Back when I was posting in the Blog I put up some screen shots of Mailata blocking down and Seumalo coming from the other side to block the edge rusher.

So yeah, Utebird is correct. Besides being cool, it frustrates the defenders because they don’t know where the blocker is coming from. Slows them down half a step.

The F and C words should be off limits as is the other F word and the H one.  Piss, dick, C, crap or ass, maybe not.

Are any of those even banned? LOL

The OL is just so good at running defenders off the LOS, tough to rein in the horses.

Possibly because our society has become too ignorant of more descriptive words to properly convey their meaning and just use the same words to describe all situations... and use the same words as every part of speech, in rapid succession.

I feel attacked.

No matter what happens the rest of this season (meaning even if we go on and win the Super Bowl), I guarantee that there will be fans complaining next August about how soft training camp is and how ridiculous it is that players are given "rest days". And when our starters play one series in the first preseason game and don't play at all in the final preseason game, there will be cries about how unprepared we're going to be for the opener and "Jalen needs the work!"

I’m not sure the walk thru practices in preseason camp are the reason the Eagles are relatively healthy this late in the season. Could just be plain ‘Ol luck.

Obscure stat time:

I know that Super Bowl winning coaches are usually cast from the same mold, and by that I mean, as players they were usually former QBs, OL, or DBs. In fact, I think you have to go all the way back to when the Packers won it during the 2010 season to find a coach who wasn't on of those 3 positions as a player (I think McCarthy was strictly a TE in his playing days.)

So that begs the question, if we somehow do cap off this whirlwind season with another title, would Sirianni be the first Super Bowl winning coach who was a former WR?

McVay, but probably someone before him too

I saw. It says screen passes. I am talking more specifically about WR screens. Not including screens to RBs. I know we suck at RB screens these days. I think we are pretty good at WR screens since we started using Smith on them.

Yeah someone brought up McVay, totally forgot about him. Not sure of who else though. Couldn't think of anyone dating back to early 90's or so.

Cool, thanks for asking him. high praise from justrelax who knows his O line.

Wonder if he's aware of any other teams that do this???

I think the illegal man downfield calls are coming more on slant read option plays than on screens.

That could be part of it as well, Lane who never gives up sacks all the sudden giving up instant pressure a D lineman is probably thinking something is off...

From Pizza Hut to Little Caesars, lol:

I am in the queue for tickets. It says 2000+ people ahead of me, and my bar hasnt moved at all.

I really hate the new system for getting tickets. First come first served logging in right at 10 used to be so much better.

Mike Tomlin.

I cheated on that one.

Yes it is.  My bar is 1/3 of the way.  Should I waste an hour?

We know that the entire season would be sold out by now.

Yet, they are making it look like we still have a chance waiting this long for just 1 game.

I think we will be stupid to wait as long as it takes, but we will do it anyway.

It obviously doesnt eliminate the risk, just reduces it.

I would expect the QB to have to hold the ball longer on a traditional screen than he would for a quick WR or bubble screen. Usually those are right out of the hand, where the traditional screen requires the QB to invite some of the passrush into the backfield.

A good screen is probably my favorite play, but its not without risks
