They fined him at first then when the video came out immediately suspended him.

Really showed how much the league doesn't care unless there is video evidence that makes them look bad.

Rodgers contract is complicated, but the Jets are currently 2 million over the 2023 cap.

Quote

What Happens if the Packers Trade Aaron Rodgers?

Rodgers does not have a no trade clause in his contract so he could be traded to a team as well.  The timing of the option should give the Packers all the way until the end of training camp to move him. The cap charge here would depend on when he was traded. If Rodgers were to be traded prior to June 1st the Packers would take on a $40,313,750 cap hit in 2023. If he was traded after June 1st it would be a $15,833,570 cap hit in 2023 with $24,480,000 due in 2024. This assumes that the Packers did not exercise the option before the trade. If the option is exercised then the trade number spikes to nearly $100 million. There should be no need to exercise the option until the last possible day.

For the team acquiring Rodgers they would be on the hook for the salary for the year. The cap charge would be $59,515,000 if they do not exercise his option and $15.79 million if they were to exercise the option. Rodgers has an injury guarantee of $49.25 million for 2024 but that does not become fully guaranteed until 5 days after the 2023 Super Bowl. If Rodgers was cut after 2023 it would cost the team $43.725 million on the 2024 cap. If he retired they could split that as $14.575 million in 2024 and $29.15 million in 2025 using a similar June 2nd date as mentioned above in the retirement option.

It was so long ago, I can't be certain, but I think it might have been a team suspension, not from the league.

No doubt that it's for social media. People do anything for views and likes now

They tried to sweep this under the rug. They barely fined him at first and then more info came out and the NFL suspended him for 2 games, and then SEVEN months after the incident happened the video was leaked and the public uproar began and then he was finally suspended indefinitely.

The assault happened in February, he was not indefinitely suspended until September when TMZ leaked the video. NFL claimed they tried to get the video but everyone knew that was BS since TMZ barely did any leg work and was able to get it.

I think there's a bit of truth to what you're saying, but the Rice case was a bit more complicated than what you're implying. If I recall, the initial report was that there was an altercation and Rice apparently lied to Goodell (or at least wasn't as forthcoming about what really happened.) Then when the video was released, the truth came to light and the NFL (or the team) had more information to act on and so they did.

The whole thing about different actions when there's video is for a reason, the video removes any semblance of doubt in most cases. So it's not that they don't care unless there's video, it's that they have far less credible information to go on.

I'd like to see the full study.   The blurb from CNN does NOT say that people who USE more cuss words are more intelligent, it said that the people came up with more words that start with F, S and A in one minute ALSO came up with more cuss words starting with F, S, and A in one minute.   It has nothing to do with usage.  Knowledge is different from doing it.

Let's just say I find it extremely unlikely that people who limit their adjectives to include only Fing this or Fing that are more intelligent than people who can actually find a more descriptive term.

"This is a big F-ing deal". vs.  "This is a colossal achievement with massive implications and dramatic impact."     Which one requires more intelligence and a great grasp of language?

To me, it's an easy decision to leave the filter on if people are bothered by curse words.  I routinely curse and have my words censored here.  I don't see anything inherently wrong with cursing in an informal message board settting but I also don't think my experience is somehow diminished when my words get filtered.  If others don't want cursing up on their screen at work or just find the language vulgar then let's leave the filter in place.  There's no reason to make the place worse for some.

Ahh... here it is.

Timeline:  Arrest occurred on Feb 15th.

CCTV footage shows him pulling unconscious girlfriend from elevator.  He avoided trial by agreeing to an interventional program.  (So the NFL was free to act at that time, as the legal proceedings were finished and he had seemingly admitted guilt).

July 24 - Two game suspension from the league.

Sept. 8 - Full video emerges.  Waived by Baltimore within hours of the video release. THEN suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

Rumors swirl about when the NFL actually saw the full video, possibly as early as April... 🤷‍♂️

Lol yeah.

There's no pizza in jail

Same 5 meals every week.

One of them I think it was Wednesday we called Rhino nut, it was just a big greasy mystery meat ball. With some instant taters and if I remember right mushy collard greens.

I remember my first couple weeks I couldn't eat the food and I was trading whole trays away for like a little carton of milk

A month in I was scarfing down my rhino nut in record time.

Yes, but tell us about the food

Incidentally, I find it hard to believe that Rodgers would get to wear 12 if he were to play for the Jets.

The Pats spygate scandal was so bad the league destroyed the tapes to protect the leagues image.

Thats not normal procedure...

Should have stripped NE of championships up to that point.

They should have been banned from the league for eternity and Belichick and Brady should have been fired into the sun

Should have been way more.

That the league destroyed the tapes says it all...

Looking it up, there still was never a clear picture of what was told to Goodell in that meeting. I may have been remembering the statement from his lawyers that downplayed the incident, but suffice it to say, the situation was far more complicated than "the NFL only cares if there's video."

Feb. 15: Rice and Palmer arrested

News broke that Rice had been arrested, charged and released from jail on simple assault charges, along with Palmer. It was known at the time that two had gotten into a fight at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, though details of the altercation were not clear. Rice's attorney described the incident as a "minor physical altercation."

...

What did Rice tell the NFL about the incident?

Peter King, on July 25, gave a detailed summary of who was in the room that day and what was said. From King's report:

Rice's wife, a source said, made a moving and apparently convincing case to Goodell ... that the incident in the hotel elevator was a one-time event, and nothing physical had happened in their relationship before or since. She urged Goodell, the source said, to not ruin Rice's image and career with his sanctions.

The NFL says they did not see the full video of the incident, and there are conflicting reports about what Rice told them. In an interview with CBS after the second tape was released, Goodell said that Rice was "ambiguous" in recounting the event.

In a letter to the NFLPA on Sep. 12, Goodell said that Rice gave a "starkly different" version of events than what was revealed on the second tape released by TMZ.

Ozzie Newsome said on Sep. 10 that Rice "didn't lie" to him about what was on the video. A report from Ed Werder at ESPN said that Rice gave the Ravens a version of the event consistent with what was on the tape.

Later reports contradicted Goodell's claim. ESPN's Outside the Lines talked to four sources who said that Rice was honest with Goodell about what happened.

I just looked into the timeline more and its even worse than I remember.

They assaulted each other mid February, TMZ leaked video of Rice dragging her out of the elevator where the incident occurred. There was some uproar about all of that, but Rice had excuses and so on. We didn't see what actually happened yet. "Investigations" happened and that eventually led to Rice being suspended for 2 games. The suspension was handed down late July. NFL though it was all over and they could move on and focus on the upcoming season.

Then in September TMZ leaked the actual incident in the elevator and hours later the Ravens terminated his contract and he was indefinitely suspended.

https://www.cnn.com/2014/09/09/us/ray-rice-timeline/index.html

NFL basically did nothing and tried to minimize impact as much as they could by doing nothing.

As far as cursing goes - there's a fine line between it being OK and it being way too much.  If you curse ALL THE TIME, to me you sound really dumb.
