Remember after week 1, when DeVonta wasn't going to re-sign here because all of the volume would be going to Brown?

Good times.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

The game is going to hinge on our DL and CGJ playing well against Purdy. If the DL can get pressure and the Eagles can control the middle of the field, the Eagles can and should win.

AS I have said many times, the key to winning is turnovers, 3rd down/red zone efficiency and average starting field position. Whichever team can win these battles wins the game.

Since purdy has taken over at Qb the niners have an average starting field position of their own 36 yard line which is best in the nfl. Also started on opponents territory 22 times. Next closest team over this time is the jags at 13 ( solak/kapadia provided these numbers on their podcast).

He hasnt played in 2 months. I dont want any broken coverage TDs because we brought back an above average player.

We're lucky the Giants dropped that walk-in TD last week.

Ill take the consistency and good mojo all day.

Maddox was injured on Christmas Eve, which was a month ago. Prior to that injury, he was playing well. If he's physically able to play, he should play. I'd damn rather have him in uniform than Wallace or Scott.

The Saints had the #1 run D for 2 straight years (2020-2021). We smashed them.

The 49ers couldn't stop the Falcons run game. We're going to be able to run on the 49ers. I just want more N-S runs.

I’d add to this the 3 games where the niners had issues on defense were chiefs, falcons and raiders. All three have yards per carry on the year of over the league average of 4.5 (atlanta at 4.9, raiders 4.8 and chiefs 4.7). In those 3 games atlanta ran 40 times for 168 (4.2), chiefs ran 21 times for 112 (5.3) and raiders ran 32 times for 135 (4.2). Only Chiefs were over their average but all had success on the ground.

I’d say bears but that game was play in a monsoon and ridiculous conditions so hard to take much out of that game in week 1

What are you talking about.

He played 77% of the defensive snaps December 11th.

He played 100% of the defensive snaps December 18th.

He played 19 snaps before he was injured December 24th.

If he plays this week, that will be 5 weeks since he played last.

If we want Suh and/or Joseph back, best bet is to let them take off training camp, pre-season and about the first 3-4 games.

Then bring them back on team friendly one year deals.   Those are guys on the brink of retirement that just want to be on a competitive team but don’t (or can’t) let their bodies go through an entire season - but want to win.

Yup

i think Suh would go again. He seems to be alot lighter now. Williams davis are here

hargrave would eliminate much need to draft a dt

2 Huge factors Sunday:

1. Brock Purdy has appeared in 9 games this year, whether due to cleanup duty or injury replacement, and SEVEN of those have been home games. All other games have been huge home field advantage for him. The 2 starts on the road? At Las Vegas, where at the end of the season with the #1 seed potentially on the line, LV’s backup QB took SF to overtime after dropping 365 yards on them by just bombing the ball downfield repeatedly; and then at Seattle, where in their hostile environment it went much different than the playoff game. SF ended up winning by a touchdown. Crowd noise  was an issue for SF’s offense in that game. Philadelphia is neither 9-9 nor 6-11.

2. SF played one other team this year that was both top 10 in total offense and top 10 in total defense. They lost by 20. Philadelphia is third and second in those categories. The next best team they played all year before Dallas? Maybe the Chargers? Not all winning streaks are created equal.

The run defense has not been great this year, even with the addition of Suh and Joseph.

9 games w/o Suh and Joseph: 124.7 rushing yards per game

9 games w/ Suh and Joseph: 118 rushing yards per game

Not much of a difference there.

This game feels like the titans game to me. A lot of hype about their run D giving us issues, and we just went bombs away and exposed their secondary. AJ is gonna have his chances this week, let’s hope he’s up to the task.

I had a similar thought also. Was comparing it to both the 1st match up with the cowboys with cooper rush and the titans game.

Birds didn't have a whole lot of yards in the 1st cowboys game, but they were very well balanced. And like you said with the titans, Birds barely ran because they were just throwing bombs like it was nothing.

Reid did a much better job than Mcdermott this year. What’s going on there. I’d even consider O’Connell in that spot before Sean

Good times.

It was an absurd statement at the time. Just as "Hurts can't read a defense" or "Hurts can't throw" was.

I think we need to greatly lessen our RPO game against the 9ers, they're a nasty team and the options expose Hurts to extra punishment, more designed handoffs please

I think the exact opposite. 9ers really struggled against mobile QBs, especially against the Falcons where they frequently used RPO against them.

9ers lost to Mariota, Justin Fields, Russel WIlson (yes, this years russel wilson), and Mahomes who is just a freak.

What is Sean McDermott doing in there? They underwhelmed this year and that was before they got bounced in the playoffs.

Last year at this time, Hurts couldn’t read a defense. It was true. He most certainly improved on that since then

Ah youre right, I had my Maddox injuries mixed up.

Honestly, Id be lying if I said my general opinion of Maddox wasnt factoring in as well. Im not as high on him as many in here, so I dont see the major impact in his return and the risk may outweigh the reward.

In regards to simms...

Really the only meaningful stat Jones is better than Hurts is completion %, and that's because Jones takes far more check downs than Hurts.

On top of all this, Jones finished his 4th year starting while this is Hurts' 2nd year starting.

I think the succesd of our run game will depend on whether or not we can effectively get to the second level. Against the Giants we were able to take their DTs right out of the game. If we can do the same against Werner and Greenlaw, we should be fine.

And next year that will be what Hurts will work on as well. His last big jump needs to be throwing the ball away, and hitting the crackdown faster.

Playoffs don’t factor into the coach of the year award.

How did they underwhelm? They lost games by 2, 3, and 3 points. They were 4th in DVOA on D, and 2nd in O and first overall in DVOA

The Bills had a 13-3 record and won the Division for the 3rd Straight year.    They won a playoff game this year.   I know expectations were high but Sean still did a good job this year especially when you add in the Snow Storm and Damar situations.   But I still can't believe they lost that game.  If you would have told me the Bengals had to see the Bills in a snow Buffalo game, I would be sure it would be the Bengals that got blown out.

I see similarities there as well. 9ers pass defense is very gettable. 21st in the league in yards given up. Lamb beat them up pretty good in the last game, Metcalf the week before then, and Adams in the Raiders game as well. Warner and Greenlaw are great linebackers so I don’t expect to see much run after the catch and success in the middle of the field. That could be worrisome given how much they like to run slants and WR screens. There will be some deep shot opportunities this game.

Looks like we're keeping Shane Steichen.

Agree. I feel Brown is a good match up with Warner, and the Birds OL will be prepared. They will run against the 9ers and they will be successful. If the 9ers focus on Brown, well there's DeVonta AND Goedert, then mix in some Quez going deep.

That game was over when SF was up 21-3 in the 3rd quarter and they took their foot off the gas.  I watched that entire game.

Seattle did not cut it to 21-13 until 3 minutes left.
