The media is under playing it for now. All six zones have gone dark and neighboring county PD's have told the Mayor to go F herself. My cousin works in zone 3 and called in. We are at FD now listening to scanner. Dead quiet. Looks like cops have had enough

I appreciate this may be a really stupid question but we really aren't hearing a lot about what's happening in the US (apparently there's nothing else in the world except COVID-19). Why would they have done that?

The Atlanta officer the other day that shot a suspect after he had stolen his taser was just charged with Murder. This wasn't a Floyd situation. The PD is walking off in protest.

I hope people realize that us Medics will not respond to dangerous calls without PD.

Hadn't even heard about that mate! There is nothing else in this world other than COVID-19! According to our news channels anyway.

Atlanta already has a crime problem. It's gonna get bad. Some dispatchers have also walked off the job.

I guess if the cops don’t work then they can’t kill anyone.

Because they represent the majority of murders.  Good call.

Does GA have State Police?  A mayor with any sense would call them in to assist.

I hope you don't get called out -You also have the right to choose not to go.  Of course these protesters don't think about the elderly that might be in trouble, or a child getting hit by a car and they can't get help!  It's getting ugly in this country.

I guess if we stop arresting people for DUI, or just allow them to resist and flee, they won’t be a danger to the public anymore.

Same logic right?

I don't blame them. The way cops are being treated now is the same way people were stereotyping Muslims after 9/11. 1% does not represent the 99%.

As I understand it (and, admittedly, I probably don't), the county, sheriffs and deputies, would be the first to take over the responsibility, with State Police coming next.  They won't have nearly the same presence, or ability to respond, though.  These idiots claim they're trying to abolish the police to help minorities, when it's the minority communities who will be the hardest hit.

I guess I'm in the minority here

They shouldn't walk off. Goes against whatever oath they took and what they believe in.

Above the speed limit in Atlanta? Looks like somebody’s never been there.

They took that oath after being trained to do things a certain way.  If all of a sudden (In their eyes) they are already convicted (in the court of public opinion) and charged with felony murder for using the same tactics they were trained to do, I’m not sure that oath applies anymore.  (Nothing to do with what happened to Floyd; strictly speaking of the Brooks incident and what is happening in Atlanta)

What if you’re one of the really good officers out there?  You’ve never drawn your gun and you’ve never attacked a suspect?  How would you feel if you were that officer right now?

Most officers never shoot anyone in the line of duty, let alone kill anyone.   People need to take a deep breathe, take a step back and stop stereotyping all law enforcement.

Generalizing and stereotyping (profiling) is one of the major issues the BLM movement is protesting against.  How can you on one hand say you are against something then on the other hand do the same thing to the system you are trying to fix?   Do as I say not as I do?

If the BLM movement wants continued support from the vast majority of Americans; the same type of overwhelming support they received after the Floyd murder, they should begin to distance themselves from the extreme elements that may have more nefarious intentions and are taking advantage/abusing the platform BLM has established. (Anarchists, Antifa, extreme political entities, etc)

Move towards a true humanitarian movement and away from those that are in it for political gain.

Then we need better cops because they suck for running away because their feelings were hurt

I'm sure some will, if they haven't done so already.

Most folks will be singing a different tune if they hear a window smashed in the middle of the night, with their children sleeping in the other room...and no one shows up when they call 9-1-1. At that point most would welcome law enforcement, regardless of what they think of them.

It's a sad state of affairs, any way you look at it and I assure you that creating (even more) divisiveness will not get anything accomplished nor resolved.
