This seems simple.  Just take good players in rounds 2 and 3. I don't care what positions. Still plenty of talent left.  I'm excited!!

I’m perfectly happy with them not going dline now. We still need a FS, a swing T with potential to compete at RG and eventually take over for Lane, and another WR, preferably a short area quickness slot type. I’d be thrilled for Sydney Brown at 62, and then a trade down further into R3 with 66 netting a 4th or 5th.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

The easiest way to rebuild a roster with talent is to ignore positions and just take the best players.  Of course, that's the long term view.  It often gets skewed by positional needs and job security for the GM and/or HC.  But, if you just take the best player on the board, you normally do very well.  When you reach for need, you end up with Danny Watkins, Jon Harris, etc.

Tons of bear front

Can see the def taking shape. Big guys up front in the 3-4. Smith and Reddick coming off the edges is nasty. Dean gets some protection

The Eagles are giving Jalen Carter everything he needs to be a successful player in the NFL.  You have unquestionably one of, if not best leaders in the NFL with Jalen Hurts.  You have some of the best veteran leaders the Eagles have ever had in Kelce, BG, Lane Johnson, Fletcher Cox, Darius Slay.  You have an organization that goes above and beyond to support their players and finally, you have 3 elite players who were all teammates of Carter along for the ride.

All Jalen Carter has to do is commit himself to the game.  His path is 100% in his hands and that path can follow the likes of Warren Sapp or it can lead to Leonard Renfro.

He is going to have to grow up and develop some thick skin. He has good teammates to lean on

Wow…Not sure how I missed this yesterday, but I just saw on Tommy’s site that the Eagles and Cards switched 3rd round picks due them tampering w/ JG after the NFCC game. Eagles jump from #94 to #66

That’s not a small deal!

Whether Carter will work for the team is to be determined.  The vets on the DL and the coaches would help.  But at the end it is his attitude and efforts determine how he would develop.

Smith on the other hand is a STEAL at #30.  He would be a weapon for rushing the QBs.

The defense now looks like a Bulldogs.  Wonder if their DC will soon join the coaching staff.

Tyjae Spears at RB?

Matthew Bergeron as a flawed but highly athletic OT for Stoutland?

Both handled that well IMO.

It's not just that. Carter has some maturing to do and work to put in.

Last time I remember the Eagles getting the guy they wanted with their first pick, and then with the second pick grabbed the guy they were considering taking with the first pick... was Brodrick Bunkley and Winston Justice.   Gotta hope this turns out better than that year.

Cost the Eagles a 5th in 2024, as well, I think.    But, yes.  Big deal.   And Howie is likely going to flip 66 back wards and grab a couple more picks for Day 3... he just won't be able to help himself.

Didn’t know about the 2024 5th, still very nice!  And perhaps that wouldn’t be a bad idea depending on how it goes.

I think, in the first round, it’s easier to outsmart yourself.  That’s where you’ll see 5 talented players at 5 positions on the board.  And you have at least comparable grades on them.  So positions play a role.

In rounds 2-3…you probably end up with one player on your board that fell and has a disproportionately higher grade than the rest.  You draft that player regardless of position.  If you simply look for the best OT on the board in round 2, it probably won’t work.

There are lots of rock-solid players that will be available at 62. Don't reach for any position. BPA is fine.

I would like to trade 62 or 66 for a 3 & 5 if possible.

I remember the hype with those two, but I think these two will live up to theirs.

Howie's trading doesn't surprise me but I'll be shocked if they move up in rd 2.  Moving back seems much much more likely

The guy we wanted in 2006 was Ngata, not Bunkley. Baltimore traded up 1 spot with their own division rival (Cleveland) because we were about to trade up with them.

Maybe he’s matured.

Ok, so went to the draft. It was weird…

* As the draft filled in with spectators, my friends and I lost our cell reception for the most part. I didn’t want picks spoiled so it wasn’t a huge deal until some KC fans near me said something about the Eagles losing picks because of tampering. I couldn’t get my phone to work, but once the guy added that it was because of tampering with Arizona, I figured there was no way the Eagles were the ones guilty. Now that I got to read up on it, wow, Gannon is such a dope. Pew pew.

* At the draft, you don’t get to hear any of the analysis. You hear the player interviews (if the microphone works), Colleen Wolfe and another woman emcee, and a lame cover band. After the Texans traded up to 3, there was some palpable buzz in the crowd. No one knew what the price was until we got home, so we assumed there was a giant discount on it. Wow, the Texans really botched it. I’m glad they got a QB, but you don’t pay that price to trade up for any other position. It’s really annoying to attend the event and not have anyone there announce the trade terms. "There has been a trade” is all we got at any point.

* As for the Eagles’ picks, when the Eagles traded up to 9 it was obvious it was for Carter. Before that, I was nervous they were going to take Smith at 10. I initially didn’t want to trade up for Carter but that was because I assumed the price was gonna be more prohibitive. He fell to 9 for a reason, but he is arguably the most talented player in the draft at a premier position. Hopefully we have the support system to get the most out of him. At 30, I felt really confident Smith was the pick. I read McLane’s tweet afterward that the Eagles were contemplating him at 10. I guess there are two ways to look at it. Great value for one. Two, yikes that they considered a guy at 10 that fell to 30. Thirty seems much reasonable based on his production, tape and size, and for a guy with his athleticism and football character, it was a no-brainer. What a night for Roseman. My friends and strangers near us kept shaking their head and complaining how good a night the Eagles had.

* Last but not least, Jason Kelce is absolutely adored in KC. He drew loud ovations when he was interviewed or whenever he was shown onscreen. I was definitely taken aback by it. Cool to see.

* While the draft was cool to attend, I don’t plan on ever attending another one. I’d much rather sit on my couch and have internet access to follow along.

Agreed, Gannon likely bought us a handful of mid round picks.

Until Smith finally got to 30, I had a feeling he was going to be the pick at 30.

You very well may be right... and historically, it seems that Eagles have done far better in Round 2, than in Round 1.

Trying not to get too attached to anybody.  There's at least 30 picks and most of the 'names' will go by then.

You might be right... either way, neither one did Justice to their draft position.
