It's not just that. Carter has some maturing to do and work to put in.

No doubt. Will depend how bad he wants it

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Until Smith finally got to 30, I had a feeling he was going to be the pick at 30.

After the SEA pick (20?) I started feeling good Nolan would make it to 30 as most the teams had offensive needs or schematically would want bigger DEs.

Whether Carter will work for the team is to be determined.  The vets on the DL and the coaches would help.  But at the end it is his attitude and efforts determine how he would develop.

Smith on the other hand is a STEAL at #30.  He would be a weapon for rushing the QBs.

The defense now looks like a Bulldogs.  Wonder if their DC will soon join the coaching staff.

Kirby is the mastermind behind Georgia so no

Oh, I dove into draft gambling. Pretty fun. Only bet $25 but walked away with $29.

Hit on Carter over 6.5 draft slot, Eagles picking Carter, Eagles first pick DL, Campbell as first LB off the board, Kincaid the first TE off the board, over 1.5 RBs in round 1, Will Anderson first defensive player picked.

We won’t talk about the money I lost on Houston taking Stroud at 2 and the ramifications it had on a bunch of parlays.

I thought a team might hop over Philly for Smith. I don’t recall, was he announced as a LB or DE?

Maybe he’s matured.

I don't think there was anyone else left on the board that was the value of Smith at that point.  Jeremiah had Smith as somewhere around the 15th best prospect in the draft.  I don't think anyone else left on the board is even close to that.

I would say a month ago the first name that popped up in my head that tied to Carter was Jerome Brown.

Big, strong, fast. A man who dominated his opponents in college. However a child still inside that needs to mature.

I personally love the pick being a Georgia fan. I never truly believed when the college season ended that we'd have a shot at the best player in this draft talent-wise.

I'm hoping that his on the field production turns out to be like Jerome Brown however I pray that he learns from his mistakes and build relationships with his team and coaching staff to help mature him quickly

LB

BPA was the pick both times

Cards getting Texans 1st round pick next year is a win. Could own two top 3 picks next year

True, honestly at that point I was 50/50 that Howie would tradeback a bit… but he acknowledged that getting cute was a bad idea. Thanks for the ammo, Gannon.

Not sure about the position announcement… I was euphoric after Roger got out a N and missed it.

Howie's trading doesn't surprise me but I'll be shocked if they move up in rd 2.  Moving back seems much much more likely

I really wish we could find a way to land Brian Branch from Alabama in the second round. I know it's pretty much impossible but if we somehow were able to land him I think I would soil myself.

Only option would be Trading say a third round pick next year along with our second round pick this year and more to be able to move up to get them. Sadly I think it actually would be worth it with how talented and versatile a defensive back he is. Won't get my hopes up but until he select it it's going to keep being on my mind

Something asking the lines of "when asked about the incident he didn’t seem to take accountability” etc. from a zoom call on draft night. Just very poor taste.

Having been involved in liability claims for almost four decades, of course he didn’t "take accountability ".  But I will bet he showed remorse, which is what you would hope for.

Ok, so went to the draft. It was weird…

* As the draft filled in with spectators, my friends and I lost our cell reception for the most part. I didn’t want picks spoiled so it wasn’t a huge deal until some KC fans near me said something about the Eagles losing picks because of tampering. I couldn’t get my phone to work, but once the guy added that it was because of tampering with Arizona, I figured there was no way the Eagles were the ones guilty. Now that I got to read up on it, wow, Gannon is such a dope. Pew pew.

* At the draft, you don’t get to hear any of the analysis. You hear the player interviews (if the microphone works), Colleen Wolfe and another woman emcee, and a lame cover band. After the Texans traded up to 3, there was some palpable buzz in the crowd. No one knew what the price was until we got home, so we assumed there was a giant discount on it. Wow, the Texans really botched it. I’m glad they got a QB, but you don’t pay that price to trade up for any other position. It’s really annoying to attend the event and not have anyone there announce the trade terms. "There has been a trade” is all we got at any point.

* As for the Eagles’ picks, when the Eagles traded up to 9 it was obvious it was for Carter. Before that, I was nervous they were going to take Smith at 10. I initially didn’t want to trade up for Carter but that was because I assumed the price was gonna be more prohibitive. He fell to 9 for a reason, but he is arguably the most talented player in the draft at a premier position. Hopefully we have the support system to get the most out of him. At 30, I felt really confident Smith was the pick. I read McLane’s tweet afterward that the Eagles were contemplating him at 10. I guess there are two ways to look at it. Great value for one. Two, yikes that they considered a guy at 10 that fell to 30. Thirty seems much reasonable based on his production, tape and size, and for a guy with his athleticism and football character, it was a no-brainer. What a night for Roseman. My friends and strangers near us kept shaking their head and complaining how good a night the Eagles had.

* Last but not least, Jason Kelce is absolutely adored in KC. He drew loud ovations when he was interviewed or whenever he was shown onscreen. I was definitely taken aback by it. Cool to see.

* While the draft was cool to attend, I don’t plan on ever attending another one. I’d much rather sit on my couch and have internet access to follow along.

Jeremiah had him at #13 on his board.  And there were a lot of head scratchers in the top 30... and a couple runs on other positions that pushed him down a bit.

As for the lack of updates on the trades... aren't there screens available?  How hard could it be to put a graphic up once the terms are disclosed to inform the masses?  NFL seems to be missing the point of the draft.   It is, after all, about talent acquisition and not just a spectacle for the sake of a spectacle.  There might just be some folks there that actually care about the prospects and the details.  The NFL is so good at generating money, they seem to lose sight of their purpose sometimes.  Honestly, I don't think that the money the NFL generates is actually due to the NFL (the organization) as it is the sport itself.

If I read into Howie's response, it sounds like they would have traded back if it wasn't for Nolan Smith being there. Which I think would have been a smart move because after Smith, there's a bunch of similarly graded players and we have some middle rounds with no picks. It's a deep RB and TE class and we could still use OL, CB, S, LB and WR.

Our next two picks are very close together. Depending on who's on the board, I can very much see a trade back or two to get a bit more middle round ammo.

I think we also have 11 picks next year and you can't draft that many players and keep them all. So trading some future picks (either for picks this year or trades for players closer to the start of the season) is possible too.

A challenge for the new DC:

The Eagles might have the most purely talented front 7 in the nfl.  SF and the Commanders also come to mind.  While the commanders have an outstanding front 7, the whole just feels a bit less than the sum of those parts, whereas the SF group is ferocious.

Be more like SF, less like Washington.

It will be a challenge to get the most from all of this young, inexperienced raw talent.  Find a way to get Davis in the backfield, not just plugging running lanes.  Don’t cast aside Milton Williams…he’s immensely talented and really came on last year.  Find a way to make Nolan Smith more than just Reddick insurance.

Still a net positive for you, so congrats.  Those $4 will almost buy you a coffee at Starbucks... but, after the taxes for the gambling winnings... you might have enough for something off the Value Menu at McDs.

It’s a horrible draft , the talent levels isn’t there , not very deep , a bunch of older prospects ,

The good teams will find the players from here on out , scouting departments will earn that pay ,

Amazing comp... both in terms of on field production and off field problems.  Let's hope Carter learns from Brown's misfortune and his own close call.

Yeah, I’ll try not to spend all my winnings at one place.

So glad he didn't.  Jeremiah had Smith at 13.  On the board with him were Levis (#12), Michael Mayer (#20), Joey Porter Jr (#23), Keion White (#28), Brian Branch (#31).    Levis makes no sense, but having him there meant a potential wind fall for a team desperate and willing to overpay considerably.  No team was, apparently, because Howie likely wouldn't have been able to turn down a windfall opportunity!   Mayer isn't a premium position.  Porter, White and Branch are all premium positions of need, but a wide talent gap.  No reward great enough to move back unless there was a massive overpay opportunity.    Very happy with Howie from last night.

Yup great maneuver for their next qb

3 biggest issues for this team right now:

1. The entire outcome of a season relies on Lane Johnson staying healthy.  That is concerning.

2.  The offense needs a viable burning deep threat.  Watkins gets to try to earn that role again this year, but if he stumbles again, this jumps towards the top of 2024 draft needs

3.  Personnel utilization on defense, as stated above.

4.  (Lack of) youth in secondary.

5.  Elusive RB to better utilize in screen and passing game.
