I viewed it as Howie paying a cheap price to remove all risk. That trade went down pretty early in the clock. Guessing Howie wanted to cut off anyone else from calling up to Chicago for Carter. I think the Bears were going OL no matter what.

I think Chicago knew the Eagles wanted Carter.  Howie may have said I will make this deal with you if you let me know regardless of whether you have an offer or not if you call me to let me know if there's an offer.  Kind of using the pick as a right of first refusal.

We don't need a Swift type at RB. We need a Dameon Pierce type.

That's Charbonnet in the draft.

Charbonnet would be nice and is my favorite... a) I feel like the value pick will CB and b) OL will be prioritized as always.  I'm anticipating a tradeback, so still a chance for RB on Day 2.

Looking at the Eagles picks for 2024, it appears that they will have a good amount of 5th round compensatory picks.  They also have a 5th rounder from the Reagor trade that could become a 4th if Reagor meets certain conditions (40 passes or 500 yards or 5 tds).

Would you be willing to trade that pick to move up today and bet that Reagor will continue to suck?  You would think that pick has more value since there are conditions that could be possibly met.

He’s not Ed Reed in coverage but he’s much better than a box safety. He’s stronger against the run but that doesn’t mean he’s not solid to  good against the pass. Part of the issue with the cardinals is their secondary hasn’t been very good for a couple seasons now. Murphy was solid but the rest of the secondary wasn’t good. I think he tried to overcompensate for the fact he had to do more because the Cardinals were playing with less. With the eagles, i think the talent around him would likely elevate him more. Kind of like we saw with CJGJ this past year. I think he is much better of a safety than CJGJ and he’s definitely a bigger leadership type guy in the locker room. Teammates love that dude. He’s not Brian Dawkins in terms of talent but he is that type of emotional leader and guys really respect and look up to him like dawk

Makes sense. Just glancing at stats, he's not a splash play guy...but he's a sure tackler, and yes he definitely seems to be a leader. His passes defensed is better than I thought. While I'd still prefer a young guy to groom and grow like Branch or Brown, I guess this could be a better move than originally thought.

I’m not familiar with the Carter incident. Was he just drag racing and someone happened to die during a race? Or did he play a larger role in it? Jason Peters would drag race and no one made a big deal of it.

Drag racing at speeds in excess of 100 mph.  Alcohol was involved.  And he fled the scene when the accident happened.

At least, that's how I understand it.  As for Peters... I did not know that.  And that is an issue if it is drag racing on public streets.  It is less concerning on a private course.  Carter did it in the middle of the town, from what I had gathered.

We are down 2x 2024 picks, right?  4th for JC, and a 5th in the Gannon trade.  I'm not sure if we can trade comps until assigned, so that ties our hands a bit.

Didn’t watch the draft live for many reasons, but I’ve seen the picks the eagles made and I hear good things from the manor about who we picked. If the eagles had won the superbowl it would’ve been a perfect twelve months.

I saw someone say with the drafts from last night coupled with what is already there, that the eagles defence is gong to feast for 17 games next season which I like to hear.

WTF is a defence?  Is that something like a mud fence as in "Jerruh Jones’ draft is uglier than a mud fence”?

Baker has always struck me as a really good box safety, not a ballhawking center fielder that we need. I'll admit I've only seen him play a handful of times. Am I wrong?

This is my takeaway too. I think if you wanted him to play as a ball hawking coverage guy he could do it, but you would be taking away what he's elite at.

Thanks JR.  Lurker these days mostly.   However, I have to come and read the thoughts of the Blog here on draft night.   Much respect for the thoughts and opinions found here, as has been the case for I think officially 2 decades now (Blog started in 2003-ish).   Man, we are all getting old! 😊

Told you Rashaun Woods sucked 😁

Yeah, I think you are right.  I forgot about the Gannon tampering swap.  But, they still have Reagor pick from Minn.

Odd day, I've been defending the Giants pick to Giants fans a lot. What happened to that fanbase?

You cannot. Right now we only have 6 picks

1, 2, 2, 3, 5, 6

Ecstatic over last night!

With that said, Safety is a bit concerning to me.

Blankenship is a great tackler but takes sime bites and bad angles on pass coverage.

Wallace hasn't shown much more than being a practice squad contributor.

Edmunds is meh, and steelers didn't hesitate on letting him go. Talking with some Steelers fans they didn't have a whole lot of good to say about him.

Evans is just about a complete unknown at this stage.

Hopefully tonight we upgrade here followed by oline depth.

Banks is a good player... better than reaching for the midget WRs.  What else did they want... John Michael Schmitz? snooze.

Go read about the actual facts.

He was not drinking, the other driver was.

He did not flee the scene.

Your post was grade Z crap. You don't understand it in any way at any level.  Be better.

Is there an Isiah Pachecho type RB in this draft?  Somebody that can be had in later rounds who can make a difference

It's fair to ask tough questions. But if I'm a public figure caught up in anything potentially criminal, I'm not saying sheet about sheet.  I was actually thinking last night about how I'd answer questions on that issue. And the best you could do is like "Yeah it was a terrible situation."  and other vagueness. Anything that hints at "I'm sorry about ABC"  or "I regret XZY" is gonna end up in a file somewhere, used against you in civil court or potentially criminal.

Another voice I haven't heard in a long time. Good to see you too!

Oh good, we still have a 5th (officially)... wasn't sure about that.

Glad Howie & Nick shut that down, made Roob look like an a-hole.

Roob represents the old Philly beat writers that are negative, entitled and arrogant.

The local media are a-holes to coaches on their intro press conference too.

They're also bitter that they never have breaking news. Shefter & Rappaport break news & they just react like TATERS

Tbh I think it could be a good move depending on what you have to give up to get him. I don’t worry about the contract cause howie will make it work for us and him. If the eagles only have to give up something like pick 66 that’s a pretty good deal. Highly unlikely to get someone that is a 5 time pro bowler (2 time all pro) at pick 66 and can make the type of impact baker can for this team in this Super Bowl window. I also don’t think a rookie starting safety is ideal especially when i don’t think Blankenship or Edmunds are great in coverage.

This line of questioning is fine - the premise was weak and the timing was awful.  Roob will have numerous opportunities this Spring/Summer to measure JC's level of contrition.

Listened to an interview with him on Sirius the other day.  Seemed like a good kid.  Pat took him to task for his pass pro at the senior bowl.  He said he knows he needs to really work at it to get better.  But, overall, liked what I heard.

Crushed!!!  Also gave up Quez in one of the trades
