You need to have a bit less tunnel vision.  Toast abhors the whole concept of the running QB.  Hurts is simply one specific example of that particular style of QB.  It isn’t personal.  It’s generic.

The game is trending more in that direction with every draft class. The days of Peyton and Tom and Drew are at a close. Not all of them will be Lamar-like, but you need at least some mobility in today’s game.

CB is a huge need. Slay is 32 and had a meh 2nd half of the season. The Eagles need to restock the cupboard there. Haven't drafted well there at all. They draft CBs even worse than they do WRs and that's saying something. Would be nice to have two young stud CBs they could groom themselves.

My pipe dream is:

One of Porter Jr./Witherspoon/Smith/Gonzalez in RD1

and

Garrett Williams/Riley Moss in the mid to later rounds via some kind of previous trade down draft haul

Would be a great succession plan

Absolutely, the board looks good to go CB  RD1 Pick 10 and DE/DT with the other pick in RD1.

Porter Jr./Witherspoon/Smith/Gonzalez

Yeah, looking at the projected board, you may be right.  Porter Jr at #10 and someone like Nolan Smith or Kancey would be a good 1st round.

The draft strategy will depend a lot on what Howie decides to do in the FA period.  If Seumalo (or Hargrave) is gone, then that position becomes a big need on the line.

If Hargrave goes they're in trouble, because they have other positions to fill and I think the DTs in this class after Carter are kinda meh. Two years in a row where they'd have drafted DTs in round 1. They need young guys at other positions. Would be nice to have some high picks on CBs, Safeties, and edge rushers.

Defenses will catch up. If a QB can sling the rock like them there will still be a place. Is that Manning kid going to Texas a runner?

Possible and probable are two different things

Ive heard that nonsense for 30 years.

Mobility helps of course but that doesnt mean running as a primary means of moving the ball

He without question is.  But the haters like you that were flat out wrong about him will just continue to die on that hill looking like someone with their pants on the ground.

It’ll be interesting to see what the future plan is for Jordan Davis. I just don’t see the point in why they traded up for him if the plan was to always make him a 3-4 NT. With his top notch athletic traits you’d think the plan was 4-3 DT/3-4 DE where he can use that athleticism to generate a pass rush/make plays in the backfield, not just clog the middle and eat up blocks.

I’m hoping he becomes an upper middle class version of Haloti Ngata in his prime.

I abhor the concept of a running qb.  Perhaps not coincidentally, Hurts arguably ceased to be a running qb this year.  Most of his record running TDs were from the trademark OL push play.  The more he stayed in the pocket, the better he got.  Some of his designed runs up the middle and for first downs were great, but I’d hardly call them his identity this year.

Hurts, along with the rest of the offense, were generally at their best when he was dealing from the pocket.  With the exception of the red zone runs (which I do like), his running was usually a band aid boost for when the aerial attack couldn’t lift off.

With the exception of Cox, the Eagles consistently overdraft DTs that never have much impact in round 1-2.  Some bust completely, while others just start for a while and respectably hold the fort.

I don’t think Davis is on the trajectory of ever being an impact, disruptive lineman.  It’s early and he’s got time, but he didn’t come remotely close to showing that this year.  He just looked like a big unathletic lug on the field.  Everyone who defends him better never criticize the 40 yard dash at the combine, because that’s all he’s got right now.

I don't think that was the plan. Howie had an interview sometime after the draft where he said he questioned his scouting team to explain to him why Davis isn't just a two down run stopper because he wouldn't use that high of a pick on such a player, he then went into a little of what the scouts had to say which all sounded great. I can't imagine he's thrilled though after this year. I'm still holding out hope, he just seems like he needs more time in the NFL to develop but who knows. It would be a major disappointment and will hurt this team if he doesn't turn out to be a force in the middle and deliver on projections the scouts sold to Howie.

Not a lot, and honestly that's the thing. It's actually not about being able to run. It's about being a versatile runner. That's actually why Jalen is really hard to stop, when combined with his arm. It's because he can run against you in a lot of different ways. Literal quickness? Check. Speed? Check. Power? Shockingly (vs most other QBs), check.

Cam had only speed and power.
Lamar has only speed and lateral.
Josh Allen? Speed and power.

Him and Fields are one of the few people that have all three - they can go past you, around you, or through you. That's why those types are so hard to stop regardless of situation. For Fields, he has the gift of being ultra fast on top of that. He can't throw like Jalen yet, but if he gets to that point, the league is on notice.

He’s faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!!!

If Desai/Leonhard are the DCs, we should let Hargrave walk and just draft run stoppers at DT.

Nakobe Dean with a DC who will blitz LBs can be a weapon for us.

Word salad

cam was a blip. Lamar looks to be one.

allen and hurt remains to be seen. Allen has far better tools and arm.

fields is a long way off as a passer but stuck in a crappy org. Way too soon to say much more but he hasnt shown crap yet but running

running qbs are what you settle for to be competitive.

Yeah if they move to 3-4 i see DT as less of a need. Davis will play nose. I actually like milton w as a 5T

So no OC/DC Hirings yet?    Hmm makes me wonder, I am guessing whatever plan they thought they had to replace these guys got foiled - Like the last time we went to the SB and lost Coordinators?

He also was showing more when he got dinged up. He is young with remarkable traits. Patience

If I was going to give JD one thing to work on over the offseason, it would be playing lower (which isn't a gimme for a 6'6" guy).  Once he can get that leverage consistently, he's going to be a real problem.
