I think it's this simple -- he's so talented, he didn't have to push himself to dominate. Coaches were frustrated because they know he can be even better.

The hope is our locker room and the increased competition make him step up his work.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the character concerns are just no big deal.   If Carter went to the Raiders, I'd be worried about him being a bust, but not in Philly.  He's got too much of a support system around him.  He has Hurts as a team leader.  He's got Fletch, BG on the D-line to mentor him.  He's got support system and leaders from his college team here.  He's set up for success.   He still might flame out, but draft picks are all a risk / reward trade-off.

Man I can't wait for the season.  Smith - Davis - Carter - Sweat starting on the D-line?

I sort of agree. It is overkill. But they also dont have great DT depth. Im just not that thrilled with Tuipulotu at NT. Benton can rush the passer, but he has NT ability. Would be a great addition. Bringing some juice at the NT position is a rare ability he can provide.

We also have Noah Elliss as NT depth.  They kept him around for a reason.  Time will tell whether that pans out.

I was on the fence about Gannon until I saw him wearing brown dress shoes with no socks last night.  Legs crossed.

Give me some DJ Turner and Cedrick Tillman

girl on the right/his left, for a while I thought it was his GF. Then the othe girl showed up, and I began to think that girl must be his sister because you can see some family similarity with her and the mom. But then she was kinda hanging all over him nestled in close and I thought, no it HAS to be his GF. Then the brunette showed up. And she was really throwing shade at his sister/blonde gf so I figured they were both his gf's and the brunette one wanted her turn in the spotlight.

Having witnessed all that last night, Im pretty sure Will Levis has starred in a Family Pies/Sis Loves Me video. And Im looking forward to watching more of this weirdness and hotness tonight.

Wait. What? Lol

The Carter character questions are fair.  I agree with both sides.  He's a young kid who did something stupid...but he has to be accountable for that.  He's going to get tough questions from the media, there will be people on high horses out to get him.  And I don't feel bad for him for that...he's earned that heat and has to handle it.  But this is also something that deserves a second chance and a wait-and-see optimistic approach for how he handles it.

Would we be saying this if he was drafted by another team? Lol

Slow 40, and not really a N-S between the tackles guy. Not saying he's awful, just saying I think there are better targets late.

His calling card is certainly not north south between the tackles. I was speaking to the Gibbs fans as McIntosh is the next best.

I know his 40 isnt great, but his burst seems to be very good so he breaks off a lot of big plays. And he is excellent in the receiving game.

For us, hes redundant with Gainwell, but it seems some people are still looking for a receiving back.

Im all for Charbonnet, Bigsby, or Chase Brown. But if McIntosh is really there late, Ill become very interested because he looks good.

I think it's fair to say the Eagles are in a better position than just about any other team to get the best from him. Strong locker room. Vets in his position group. College teammates. And his position coach worked at Georgia previously.

It's a calculated risk, but the Eagles likely have less risk than pretty much any other team.

I'm always happy to criticize and not forgive Eagles.

The whispers on UGA coaches and Carter are concerning...but the Eagles are pretty risk averse when it comes to personalities and character (not so much with injuries).  They also have pretty extensive UGA connections with both players and coaches.  I don't think Carter would be on their board if the UGA coaches had real problems with him.

Pretty sure everyone on the board hated Jalen Reagor, both for his terrible on-field play and his immature social media posts.

Saying they dropped for a reason.  Carter's own coaches didn't like him.

I guess we'll see. There were a lot of red flags with him

True but I've seen people act like there wasn't a huge majority on the board that didn't want to take the risk

Now that Howie drafted him it seems different lol

Agreed - feel like he'd have to fall into Howie's lap though.

I don't watch college ball. Did they get a TD?

Trying to catch up, super busy. Where is all this UGA coaches don't like Carter chatter coming from?

That's probably a pretty good read on it, but its going to be an uphill battle at the next level if his approach doesn't change. I think the gamble is perfectly fine for what he can be and if he can dominate on the field who cares, but it does cause some PTSD from past players in similar situations.

If thats the case- I hate this pick. The Draft is always a gamble, but when players are lazy, lack motivation/motor-  the risk/reward of taking them is even higher. We have seen this played out many times, and it is why teams/GM's after getting burned by a high risk/reward player, start going back to drafting guys with specifically naturally high motor- motivation.

You can lead a horse to water but you cannot force him to drink.

Interesting that he has Christian Ellis as LB #2. He's more than big enough at 6'3, 230. He plays with violence that we very much need. His brother was a solid starter for the Saints last year. If the Eagles think he can start, we're not drafting an LB.

Mainly Florio. Rappaport kinda has hinted at it as well.

Pretty sure the last player we picked at #9 was...Jerome Brown.

Some potential trade downs from 66 just to give people an idea of what they could get to move down based on the value chart:

66 = 260 points

Raiders - 70 / 144 = 274 points

Saints - 71 / 146 = 267 points

Browns - 74 / 126 = 266 points

Falcons - 75 / 113 = 283 points

Patriots - 76 / 117 = 270 points

Packers - 78 / 116 = 262 points

None of these excite me, although I would probably do the last three. Getting a pick like 144 or 146 does nothing for me, even 126 is just meh. They might have to trade down from 62 if they want to get something of decent value considering that pick is worth an additional 24 points than 66.

Was the opinion of the coaches formed before or after the accident? I am sure they were upset with him after the accident, which has caused them all kinds of headaches and came after he was done winning games for them. But they certainly weren't upset enough about his behavior to bench him when they were playing meaningful games.

The way it's being framed suggests it doesn't have anything to do with the accident, and it's what Todd McShay was referring to in December with the concerns before the accident even happened.
