Not a lot, and honestly that's the thing. It's actually not about being able to run. It's about being a versatile runner. That's actually why Jalen is really hard to stop, when combined with his arm. It's because he can run against you in a lot of different ways. Literal quickness? Check. Speed? Check. Power? Shockingly (vs most other QBs), check.

Why is it shocking?  He can squat 600 lbs... did you not know that?

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Its an incredible luxury to be able to actually draft for the future. Every NFL team says it but rarely does it.

Its not a bad thing

Mailata sat for a couple years before contributing.  Jalen Hurts sat behind Wentz.

This is like a forgotten adage of a past era of football, but it actually works and is a great thing.

There was a lot of smoke around Eagles wanting Jaycee Horn and Patrick Surtain Jr, and some of the beats think either would have been the pick over Smith if they were available. I don't think they are afraid to take one high, they just haven't been in the best position to do it on someone worth it.

At some point they have to draft one high, and this is a good year to do so. They continue to get themselves in trouble with the big FA contracts, and outside of a year or two don't get the performance to match the contract. I know Howie is good at working the cap, but I'd like there to be more consistency at CB. There's at least 3 that are worthy of drafting around 10, Gonzalez, Porter Jr., and Witherspoon if they can move back a bit. I think Gonzalez will be long gone, but they should have a shot at the other 2.

Think Howie just believes in premium players at premium positions.

If there's no OL that we love, hope we go CB over EDGE given this class.

Derek Carr is not a top 15 QB and it’s silly the amount of press he’s getting here. What do teams actually expect he’ll be able to do for them? Add a win or two and then get blown out in the first round of the playoffs?

Daniel Jones is even worse, same press

That’s a different situation I think, but I agree if he didn’t get extended he’d have a worse market than even Carr.

but seriously, let’s start listing guys. I bet we could name 15 without even getting to Carr

1. Mahomes

2. Burrow

3. Hurts

4. Allen

5. Herbert

6. Rodgers

7. Stafford

8. Jackson

9. Lawrence

10. Tua

11. Goff

12. Prescott

13. Cousins

14. Smith

15. Wilson

16. Murray

17. Watson

Only after those guys would I consider Carr the best option. He’s in the grouping of Garropolo/Purdy/Tannehill/Fields/DJones/MJones/Ryan. Is he even the best QB in that group? If the New York Jets traded for Deandre Hopkins and were absolutely loaded for a run in 2023… would you be able to convince them Carr would make it further than Garoppolo?

The Jets are stuck where they cannot go back into the draft again for a QB after the Darnold and Zach Wilson misses.  Derek Carr would only give them legitimacy at the position — a place they haven’t been for a really long time

The way Fowler phrases that it sounds like he was their top choice. Otherwise how would they”move forward” without working on hiring him since they already interviewed him.

That's not how I took it.  They interviewed him and decided not to move forward so told him to get his surgery

Yeah but they’d be stuck in that area that Howie said he actively avoids. What is NYJ with Derek Carr, best case? Keep in mind he just had easily his worst year as a pro. Even if you blame everything on Josh Mcdaniels, Carr added an all pro receiver yet manger to complete only 60% of his passes. In 2022 thats not just bad, for a QB on a top contract that’s terrible.

Maybe they squeeze into the playoff, what then? An away game in Buffalo? Cincinnati? In my opinion it’s better to save the money, be absolutely sure Zach Wilson isn’t the guy, or either move up in this draft for Levis/push for Rodgers. Signing Carr is admitting defeat before the season starts

Your first sentence is right. Your last...is not. I own and operate an executive search firm. Two layers is nothing compared to what some clients put candidates through. Their process here is 1 interview with Nick and coaches, 2nd interview with Lowie. That does not mean that anyone who hit interview layer 2 is likely the next DC. They're doing their due diligence.

True but at the same time, the only candidate that we have heard that has received the two interviews is Kosep. This leads me to believe he is the clear front runner and likely hire.

The game is trending more in that direction with every draft class. The days of Peyton and Tom and Drew are at a close. Not all of them will be Lamar-like, but you need at least some mobility in today’s game.

Howie probably didn't want to have to commit to paying TJ Edwards $10 million a year.

Can't we just have Stoutland be the DC for a year... then turn it over to Leonard?

Yup.   I've heard that all the time.   And yet, the best QBs are still the ones that are most dangerous with their arms... not their legs.  I agree that mobility is a really helpful tool for a QB, but the passing game remains the engine that drives the league.

This is one of those that I'm not overly enthused with.  Maybe it is unfair to him, but I never trust a college coach who's best skill seems to be recruiting the best talent.  Is UGA successful due to their scheme, or due to their talent differential versus their opponents?

Hmmm interesting. Not sure either way.

If you're Dennard Wilson, at what point are you looking to leave to get a better opportunity elsewhere? There's a pretty big difference between how they are conducting their DC search vs their OC. I get due diligence and all but it's got to be deflating to already be in building and hear about all these outside guys they are searching for.

Going to be interesting what kind of year Stafford has. I think he might just be washed at this point.  He's certainly at an age where it wouldn't be surprising if that's the case especially with the damage he has taken over the course or his career.

Have any teams requested an interview with Wilson?
