We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

I wonder if Deion Jones has too much damage to his shoulder. He was a really good LB but suffered a significant injury to his shoulder in pre-season last year. But if he is healthy now and cleared medically, I'd go this route. You don't have to give up anything. But he will need to take a major pay cut and accept a 1 year prove it deal. But it would be a great move because if he returns to his older self, he will also get a nice contract most likely netting us yet another quality comp pick. If he's not healthy or just wants too much money, yeah you need to bring in someone. Devon White is just too expensive in terms of contract and compensation. Zach Cunningham or Kwon Alexander could also be free agent 1 year options.

Myles Jack & Rashaan Evans are out there too.  Both weren't good recently but as competition they need bodies

As a contrast to the 2022 draft:

1. Davis.  Expected eventual starter, +contribution as rookie.  (Well, that didn't happen, but it was the on-paper expectation).

2. Jurgens.  Expected eventual starter, no contribution as rookie.

3. Dean.  Expected eventual starter, no contribution as rookie.

6. Johnson.  Will never start, no contribution as rookie, no guarantee to make the team.

6. Calcaterra.  Will never start, no contribution as rookie, may round out TE rotation, some upside.

AJ Brown as instant starter also needs to factor in, but the $100m contract also makes it not entirely a draft investment.

LOL, Gannon hid from the media for all 3 days of the draft.

This is going to be fun!

I mean Phoenix is tough town and all, but he could have at least talked to the beat writer before he/she/they had to go back to their day job on Monday.

Ummm yeah we do

I don’t care what you say, run defense is a concern. We lost our best two run stopping DT’s (Suh & Joseph) and probably have the smallest LB crew (Morrow & Dean) in the league. If I were an opposing offense, I would pound the ball at this defense, while keeping the ball away from our offense.

If Jordan Davis isn't the answer to the problem here, then that pick was a big mistake. So let's just hope he steps up and does what he was drafted to do.

JJAW as a UDFA would have been fine. JJAW just couldn't finish contested catches.

My other big JJAW issue was he just didn't have that "dog" in him. Not saying he's soft, but he definitely didn't play with an edge.

Nonsense.  JJAW was the enforcer.

I'm not high on Jack, but I would add Evans to the short list too.

What’s goofy is you posting Hargrave’s scouting report from 7 years ago. Should I post Tom Brady’s scouting report?

Its what he was in college. We only have what Carter was in college. Try to read for comprehension.

Are you pretending Hargrave is good against the run?

The Eagles have FIVE first round picks from that mock.

You must be a troll.  Our best DT against the run was Davis.  Suh and Joseph were signed because Davis and Marlon T went down.  Hargrave was a bit weak at the run. Cox is better.   He also wore down as the season went on.  Once Williams got over his personal loss, he was coming on at the end of the season and fresher than Hargrave, had periods when he looked better than Hargrave.  Eagles just drafted three DL players who were very good against the run in college.  Yeah, pound this D.  Better have a Derrick Henry because this team has LBs that can catch Pollard and Barkley.  You really think that White was better than Morrow against the run?  Same size as Morrow out of college.   Dean was one pound lighter than TJ. coming out of college. Morrow is a cover LB, converted S just like White but considerably faster.  They will keep him clean.  What you fail to recognize is the speed this team has at LB.  Add to that the tendency towards five men on the LOS and that impacts the ability to get a body on the off ball LBs. The speed at LB will contribute to their closing speed.

Not saying Hargrave is good against the run but it’s going to be a learning curve for Carter. You’re comparing a rookie to a veteran Pro-Bowler.

Should there be more discussion about Eli Ricks?

Is there a possibility we won’t have to draft a cb high next year?

If they could go into the draft exclusively with WR/OT needs next year, that would be incredible.

Not trolling, just voicing my concern. Davis showed flashes last year but has to step up. He can definitely be the answer. Our LB’s are tiny and we lost our top two run stuffing DT’s.

Jalen Carter (#9), Nolan Smith (#30), Kelee Ringo (#105), Tanner McKee (#188), Eli Ricks (UDFA)

But... remember, once upon a time, King Dunlap was considered a 'way too early' first round prospect... and Matt Barkley was a potential #1 overall pick.

It's possible. I wanted one of the bigger CB's on day three; Ricks, Garner, Trice, Rush, Moss... We added two plus drafted Kelee. That's absurdly good. Someone may get moved to safety, Garner would be my guess. I also think it is possible for Ringo too but with his elite measurables and tantalizing upside while only being 20, they probably try him at CB first and try to develop him there. But a couple years from now I wouldn't be surprised if he's a safety here and a good one at that.

Dunlap made a career of it and was a starting OT in this league.  Not all bad with him.  I bet he outperformed some 1st and 2nd round OTs in his draft,

First thing I do is hire him a full-time chauffeur.

Carter's situation with the Eagles reminds me in a way of the Lakers strategy for the Shaq/Kobe Dynasty. In the Jeff Pearlman book he said that every move the Lakers made from 1998 to 2004 was in some way made to keep Shaq and Kobe from tearing each other apart. Even when a vet they brought in wasn't the best on-court fit, if it helped play peacemaker between them, that's all they needed.

It is not hyperbole to say that Carter is the most talented player on an Eagles roster with multiple future HOF candidates. Carter was the consensus #1 player for a reason, he stood out on the greatest college defense littered with 1st rounders as a true sophomore for a reason. If we maximize his talent, we have a perennial DPOY candidate.

Hargrave is replaced by Milton, and Carter is the replacement for Fletch if that makes you feel better. Expectations are high, but there’s a plan to work the rookie in.

Who did I miss?

Edit: NVM, I see that it was Ricks

Nice

I’m real impressed with the draft haul and offseason. Howie did an unbelievable job. My biggest concern is the run defense. Last year, until we signed Suh and Joseph, the run defense was real bad. So let’s say Carter and Hargrave are a wash against the run. Now, Suh and Joseph are gone. Look at LB, I think the advantage against the run goes to Edwards and White, so they may have taken a step back against the run. Maybe it was a Gannon scheme issue so we’ll see.  I hope I’m wrong but that’s how I would attack this team.

When you compare Morrow and White, what is your assessment?  I personally believe Morrow was miscast in Chicago playing the Edwards position.  He will be much better used here.

When comparing Dean and Edwards it is easy to see Edwards’ physicality as definitely superior to Dean’s, but especially with Carter and Davis playing in front of him, keeping him clean, I suspect that Dean will ultimately prove to be better than Edwards.

Obviously this is why Georgia struggled so much the last two college seasons.
