One thing to keep in mind though...the draft was awesome.  We all love it.

They will get less boost in 2023 from this draft class than every single one of us is anticipating.  They are all rookies and this is a stacked roster.  Last year's draft class was almost completely irrelevant to the 2022 season.

Said that before the draft, Davis and Blankenship were the two "impact" players from last season.

Carter, Smith, Brown will get some PT, that may be it from this year's class, including UDFAs.

Meanwhile, from the 2022 class, Covey, Allen, Calcaterra, Jergens, Davis, Elliss DT, Kyron Johnson, Dean, Jobe, Blankenship, may have bigger roles.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

You never know. The Chiefs got a huge boost from their draft last year. Though Carter won't start because Fletcher Cox deserves that, he'll get a starter's number of snaps and will likely be our best interior defensive lineman.  Brown will probably start. Steen could start. Nolan Smith should have an impact. Swift should start (not a draft pick, but an addition through the trade of a draft pick).

I missed your number predictions. I'll give it a go but only with a few guys:

Jalen Carter - 98

Nolan Smith - 0

Tyler Steen - 74

Sydney Brown - 30

Kelee Ringo - 25

Rashaad Penny - 10

D'Andre Swift - 3

Terrell Edmunds - 22

this was mine

OK, now the numbers guessing game starts:

Jalen Carter- 93, considered 98 but if Williams switches to 97, I think 93 is a good fit.

Nolan Smith- 56, initially thought 0 until the Swift trade.  56 is a perfect number for him

Tyler Steen- 72, eh not too many great OL numbers.  72 is solid G/T number.

Sydney Brown- 30, stays in college number, unless Justin Evans takes 30.  Then maybe he takes 3.

Kelee Ringo- 23, considered 3 but I think he starts in a traditional number.

Tanner McKee- 13, not many numbers available for QB.

Moro Ojomo- 98, his college number.

Changes

Milton Williams- 97, his college number.

Hasson Reddick- 0, becomes the first 0 so Swift can have 7

D'Andre Swift- 7, his college number since 32 is taken.

Remember the end of The Princess Bride when Inigo Montoya was lamenting that now that he had achieved his life long goal, he didn't know what to do with the rest of his life? That's how I feel right now. I wait and wait and wait...full of excitement...for months and months for the draft. I literally count down the hours for much of it. And then when it hits, it hits hard, at full force, and is over just like that. And here I am, just worn out mentally and in a weird way distraught that we have another twelve months before the next one comes. Fortunately there's the actual season ahead of us, so I'll be okay. And the Eagles should be good, I think, so that makes it even better.

But still, it's a weird feeling right now.

I read this to my wife and it brought a big smile to her face!  And she really doesn’t have any affinity for football.  She did wear an Eagles jersey on Super Bowl Sunday though.

"Starting" is far less important than snap count.  I expect that Carter should be getting at least 50% of the snaps this year, if he's any thing close to what he's supposed to be.  Cox, on the other hand, might top out at 50% of the snaps.  He needs to be used less frequently to maximize his effectiveness.

But, Carter very well could start.  The DL could be:  Reddick, Carter, Davis, Cox, Sweat.  (I expect a lot of 5 man fronts again this year.)

Passing downs:  Reddick, Carter, Graham, Smith

Short yardage:  Sweat, Carter, Davis, Cox, Graham

Williams, Graham and Smith mix in as it goes here and there, as well as the other DL to spread out the snaps.

I don’t think you can give out 0, 3, and 10 to non QBs at this point. Mariota and McKee need numbers too and they don’t have many options with 5 and 15 retired and 9 and 12 out of circulation.

Eli Ricks in UDFA is amazing. Really like that kid. He will make the team if we keep 6 CBs and Ringo plays S.

Him, Greedy Williams, Ringo, Jobe and Mekhi Garner are an insane group of DBs with high potential.

Why would Reddick switch to let a one year rental have his college number when Reddick’s college number is 7?

Im skeptical about either of our players winning it because of how they will be rotating.

That would be cool though.

Wonder if Kwon Alexander can still play...

Interesting bit of information from the Solak article on The Ringer.

"The Eagles are the first team in the current draft format to take five defensive players from the same school in consecutive drafts."

If we had an expansion team this year, they could field a halfway decent lineup. A lot of those guys started for 7+ win teams

Only need 2 numbers.  And neither needs a permanent number in TC. Sisposs, who has Mariota's number 8 can be moved to another number pretty easily.  McKee could probably talk Covey out of his 18. Covey can grab a number in the 80s.

I think it's reasonable to think we could be better overall next year, but have a worse record, due to a stronger strength of schedule & injuries.

Luckily, we're a mentally tough team and Jalen already has a SB appearance under his belt. We don't have the baggage that a team like the Cowboys or Bills have.

Exactly with Hurts as QB in the NFC playoffs I would take the eagles against any nfc team on any field right now assuming the rest of the team isn't decimated with injuries of course

Cuz I think Swift is here for longer than 1 year a lot of players who don't make any sense wearing 0 are wearing 0.  Calvin Ridley for example is 0.  Braxton Berrios switched to 0.

I think Reddick would look at 0 as a badge of honor.

Any field but that slip n slide they rolled out for the Super Bowl in AZ

You can.  Basically any non OL/DL player is eligible for any number they want.  Some DL such as Carlos Dunlap (8), Jason Pierre-Paul (4) seem to have found a loophole to consider themselves OLB and wore numbers outside of the DL rules.

QB

0–19

Punters and placekickers

0–49 and 90–99

Defensive backs

0–49

Running backs, fullbacks and H-backs

0–49 and 80–89

Tight ends

0–49 and 80–89

Wide receivers

0–49 and 80–89

Offensive linemen

50–79

Defensive linemen

50–79 and 90–99

Linebackers

0–59 and 90–99

What numbers have the Eagles unofficially retired? I am only aware of 9, 12, and 87. They really just need to officially retire 12 and start giving out the other numbers. Personally I don't think numbers should be retired at all.

Ah yes, nothing like having to plan for a standing ovation.  So organic.

Mariota will probably get 8 and Siposs and the udfa they signed can take a number between 20-49.

That leaves 0, 3, 10, and 13 for McKee to choose from and 3 others left for skill guys or LB's/DB's.

Ah, ok. Yeah they need to start handing out those numbers except 12 which should be retired. If they wont hand out 87 they shouldnt hand out 86 either. It never ends though.

I know this isn’t Madden but I’m wondering what Julio Jones might cost. Not in love with any of our backups, wouldn’t be asked to do much and has chance of winning a super bowl.  Also went to Alabama so checks that box
