I'm not sure what the ideal role for Isaiah Simmons is. I'm willing to pay a 5th to find out. I'm sure the Cardinals will ask for a day 2 pick, at which point all teams should say no thanks.

Watch them release an all black uniform.  Kind of a weird tease for those throwbacks though.

I’d be more on your side if they were remorseful after the incident. His lawyer and he came out trying to shift the blame on the fire department and other things as well after it happened ( https://news.yahoo.com/amphtml/ruggs-lawyers-suggest-firefighters-may-233426029.html). I get lawyers using it to get their client off but feels like it’s a bunch of bs given how fast and drunk he was. Take the accountability. And from what I’ve heard from people in Vegas he had other previous incidents not reported. Lawyers and ruggs figured out he wasn’t gonna be able to get off completely and trying for the lesser penalty.

I’m 100% for harsher penalty. He deserves it. I’m fine for forgiveness after he serves his penalty and returning to the the nfl. I was for it for vick when he went through what he did if he actually used to change his life. He did. That said  we live in a day and age where we have Uber and Lyft and ride sharing to prevent things like that way more easily. Usually they aren’t very expensive. Add on he has the money as a athlete and I’m guessing the raiders like most teams (heck i know the university of Arizona for its athletes have it ) have someone that will no questions ask come pick them up when they are wasted and get them home. Free of charge. They’ll also drive you back to your car the next day. Can say he was 21 and we all make mistakes but has every resource to prevent this. instead he made that decision. I don’t feel sorry or make excuses for him. We live in a day and age where this is 100% preventable with a $20-25 Uber/Lyft ride. He also probably had a phone call to the raiders to pick him up that was free and prevented it

Second time this week I have heard "take accountability”.  Nonsense.  Show remorse.  Absolutely try to deflect blame to the degree you can while trying to resolve civil litigation and criminal charges.  That’s exactly what happened here.  Once resolved, he plead guilty. Like it or not, that’s how the civil and criminal Justice system works in the US.  As far as options, impaired people don’t always think they are too impaired to drive.  (More times than not they make it home fine.) How much experience do you think he had with intoxication at his age.  Finally, what benefit do you get for spending more than $100k (three years incarceration costs) of taxpayer dollars imprisoning a young man with no other criminal record and all indications being he is a good kid? Do you really think he hasn’t learned from this incident and will repeat it?

I’m the biggest dawn fan around and even I acknowledge that Dawk made the business decision for his family and that Denver overpaid at that point in his career for the leadership he brought. As much as it pained me to see him in another uniform, this is the reality of it

Dawk was a shell of his former self.  In all reality JJ did a marvelous job either hiding him or scheming to his ability at that point (he was a LB who could cover a TE in a pinch).  With JJ passing and Sean McD taking the helm, asking a rookie DC protoge to scheme around what dawk couldn't do made no sense at the money he got.  It pained me too, but it was the right decision.  Much like letting JP go and bounce around for a few years.

I kind of get where you are coming from, but you really can't take more responsibility than waiving your rights and pleading guilty.

What I've heard on NFL Radio from a couple of different guests was if HOU was unable to trade up the pick at #2 would have been Will Anderson, so essentially the trade was for them to be able to take Stroud -- even though they took Stroud as the #2 and Anderson as the #3 pick.

That makes sense...you pay a premium for a QB.  Had they taken Anderson at #2, the price of #3 goes up.

8 hours ago, ManuManu said:

Ehhh. I don’t think that’s true. The trade wasn’t even agreed to until Arizona was on the clock. At least that’s what I read.

Part of the game.  They took their QB, therefore the premium price for a QB is off the table and the value changes.  Less calls come in after Stroud is off the board.

It was still a dumb price to pay for a non QB. Their pick next year could be top 5.

Prioritizing QB over edge is smart business. Pretending it was a stroke of genius to lower a trade up price is cute by half.

Bring back normal RB numbers.

Also, woof, wear the throwbacks 100% of the time.

They tried to say the firefighters were slow to arrive and didn’t do a good job as to why he dog and woman died. We can call it that it happens in the law as they but they damn well knew he was recorded going 156 mph besides being was intoxicated as well as putting his gf life at risk with a gun int he freaking car. And he previously was said to have been reckless driving. There was no way they were avoiding him being at fault and yet still wanted to put onus on the fire department for being "slow”. Again can say good job by the lawyer but it’s BS regardless of how fast they got there and put that fire out that girl and her dog were  going to die due to his actions that not and not learning from previous recklessness driving that car (link below)

So we want to make excuse he is 21 and we all make bad decisions and most of us just don’t get caught for it? there’s millions of 21 year olds that are smart enough to get an Uber and Lyft who don’t have the resources ruggs did at his disposal. Plenty of kids nowadays not risking DUIs thanks to Uber and Lyfts. One of the best apps to come in this era that’s helped avoid more duis. Furthermore ruggs had the money to avoid it and the raiders have a car service added on into. More so than the rest of the 21 year olds in this world, he had multiple avenues they don’t usually have to avoid it So this " he was 21 we all make mistakes that we usually don’t get caught for” there’s a lot of 21 year olds with less avenues than he has/had at his disposal to avoid this situation

i don’t care if he thought he could or if everyone else does it but makes it home. He didn’t and he decided to go 156mph while intoxicated. And there’s been reports he Was this reckless before this dui (https://nypost.com/2021/11/05/video-shows-henry-ruggs-iii-laughing-while-speeding-year-before-deadly-dui-crash/amp/). So the fact this happened isn’t a surprise. Like i said have friends in Vegas that said there’s a bunch of stuff swept under the rug with guys on that team that’ll never hit the light of day cause it wasn’t this catastrophic

what good does it do? Go talk to the family and friends that are out of their child or friend for the rest of their life and explain to them how 3 years is fitting for the punishment due to taxpayers not wanting to spend the money to keep him in prison for basically killing their daughter/friend. They never get yo see their daughter and dog again. They are never coming back. So why should in 3 years should he be let out because he decided to accept a plea and it won’t cost taxpayers money? I’m telling you right now having had this happen to a close friend, if you tell those friends and family don’t keep him on longer than just 3 years cause it saves the taxpayers money they are gonna be infuriated that is how you got to that punishment

If you want me to be honest, I’m not sure if he learned his lesson or not. He was reckless driving previously before this DUI crash and is avoiding that felony reckless charge. i dont want to find out in 3 years that he didn’t and have another horrific story. Vick was able to turn his life around for the better. However not everyone is like Vick. It’s why I’d give him a more harsh punishment so i feel more comfortable knowing he probably learned his lesson.

He’s only pleading guilty because it’s a chance at a lesser sentence for what they offered him. I’d highly doubt he is doing it 100% out of responsibility. He and his lawyer accepted the plea deal cause he was going to prison regardless. didn’t want to fight more charges as more images and stories in court come out and facing a more harsh sentence. Especially if he sits in the court room and its not believed he is actually remorseful. Cause then there’s a chance he is getting a harsher punishment and guilty of the other charges.

if he went to court it was likely he was very likely facing guilty charges of the other charges they are dropping with the plea. Other charges will be dismissed, including felony reckless driving, driving under the influence causing substantial injury to Ruggs' girlfriend, Je'nai Kilgo-Washington, and a misdemeanor gun charge. If he didn’t accept that plea deal he’s getting way more time.

I think this is way more about going to prison for the least amount of time as possible.

I'm not a Stroud fan, so I'm going to assume it'll be a top 5 pick but I don't think the price was astronomical given the jump.  Badly run teams do stuff like this though.

In following with Maragos, I wonder if players are going to start suing their teams and docs every time they get injured and don't have a perfect recovery now.

Interesting analysis.  I think it is a bit of "you can’t see the forest for the trees.”

Ruggs was on the hook for a maximum 50-year prison sentence ‘when’ convicted on all counts.  I really hope the judge acts on behalf of the victim and her family on this one and gives the 10-year sentence.  Heaven knows he deserves it, and I haven’t seen nor heard an ounce of remorse from him.

The gf should be doing some prison time herself; she can count herself lucky prosecutors didn’t pursue a case against her as well

Exactly why he took the plea deal. If he went to court, fought all charges and was found guilty he was going to prison for good portion of the rest of his life. The lawyer realized he wasn’t going to win so take a deal to get the least amount of time possible as compared to what he was facing if he didn’t accept. He was facing felony reckless driving, driving under the influence causing substantial injury to Ruggs' girlfriend, Je'nai Kilgo-Washington, and a misdemeanor gun charge onto what he plead guilty too. In the plea those charges were dropped. I don’t think it’s nearly responsibility as much as it’s what is the smartest way to get him out of prison soonest and potentially back to resuming his career. Frankly he knew he was Fed either way. So would you rather be boned for longer or a shorter period of time? I’m guessing most would take the lesser shorter sentence. Also in court if he came off not remorseful and with all the other stories/images coming out he’s likely getting convicted of all the charges and a harsher penalty
