They have done this for sure (Dillard, Hurts, Jurgens).

We just have so many open holes on defense right now, and the draft is strong at positions where rookies can start, that I think it's bad resources. We're not going to be as deep as last year.

In 2023, we could start a new RB, RG, CB2, MLB, DT1, WLB, S.
Any of those 1st rounders would start.

RB = Gainwell (internal promotion)

RG = Jurgens If Kelce comes back (internal promotion)

CB2 = almost surely a new player

DT1 = probably a new player

MLB and WLB = time will tell if it is only one internal promotion or two, but we need depth regardless

S = Maddox (centerfield in the Earl Thomas model) or Blankenship (paired with CJGJ) both internal promotions, but if Maddox moves to Safety we need a CB3

I don't think Carr is an all pro but with the Jets Defense he could be serviceable.

Carr with the raiders never had a defense ranked higher than 20th.

Since the Merger in 1970 he has the highest points scored against any QB at just over 26 points meaning he's had to score more points than any other QB in the last 50+ years.

Jets have a pretty good defense, I don't think good enough to make Carr a HOF qb but good enough that Carr would give them a chance to score some points and win some games.

If there ever was a time to see what McPhearson can do it's now.  Year 3, it's time to know what we have in the guy.  Hate to see another wasted 4th round pick.  Whether it's CB2 or slot CB, they need to give him a chance or move on.  You can't trust Avonte Maddox to stay healthy and Josiah Scott showed he's no more than JAG.  Time to move on from him too.

We're making a mistake if we're just handing the starting RB job to Gainwell or S job to Blankenship.

Or Maddox at safety.  Id just as soon plan to move on from him. You cant rely on him at all and hes just average

You have to bring in RBs regardless and even late round guys have certainly been known to pop.  Similarly if you let Epps walk there is a spot

District from what I read.

In 85 they made it to the State Finals and lost to Houston Yates.  In 84 they were undefeated and State champions.  In 83 they were only District champions.  I moved to Texas from West Chester/Kennett Square in 1989, and they were State Champions that year.  Everyone everywhere in Texas was talking about their football team.

I agree.  A long look at Josh Jobe as well.

I dont think they'd simply be handed jobs, but I wouldn't have a problem with them being given first crack at competing at those spots.

Gainwell looked pretty good down the stretch, and it's not like the eagles are all the sudden be a 1 back centric offense and he's gonna get 25 carries a game, he'll still be part of a RB committee.

As for Blankenship I'm sure he'll have some competition for a spot.

I like Maddox at safety more than nickel but as stated dude is made of glass and can't be counted on to be available

This is directly from the Texas HS HOF where his HOF profile is.

Inducted in 2003

Britt Hager led the Odessa Permian Panthers to three consecutive district championships from 1981-1983. As a senior he was selected as a member of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine Super Team, made the All-State team and helped Permian advance to the 1983 quarter-finals

I agree … no handing out of jobs.  They have to be earned.  My crystal ball says Gainwell will earn that, but I believe it will be the top dog in a committee.  That same crystal ball says Blankenship will only get better, and be a better Safety than Epps when he is done.

He was at the University of Texas from September 1985 through June 1989.  I wonder what happened to his 1984 season?

I think the Jets with Derek Carr probably to make the playoffs. That defense is gonna be really good. And they have really nice weapons on offense in Wilson, moore and hall. However, I don’t believe for a second he’s going to be a Hall of Fame quarterback. When he was with the Raiders it wasn’t like the Raiders didn’t have offensive weapons. He was solid to good at times. He is never going to be a hall of famer

Might need to tweak that a bit. Twice I’d say.

I'd be all for it because he knows defense at the end of the day.

However I'd worry that he would go running his mouth before a game and it ends up backfiring on him.

The Eagles will probably hire Wilson. Not sure I can say it would be a "bad" hire, but it would be definitely the least exciting intriguing of the bunch, which is why it probably will happen. Can never be too excited around here.

Maddox is an above average slot corner. He's under contract through the 2024 season.  He's had health issues but every player is a health risk.  I think the team should add talent but Maddox is a good player that has a role on the team.

I'm completely fine with missing out on Joseph. I don't see what the appeal is with him.

The most likely scandal is that he gets caught looking at women's feet in the changing room at a Macy's.  He would get the most out of the defense.
