Not that it matters legally but Stallworth was also driving in the morning after a night of drinking. Not getting ish faced and immediately jumping into a car.

We call that "a case of the Mondays" 'round these parts

I don’t understand how it impacted Fangio?

I’m guessing if the cardinals didn’t wait til the Super Bowl to engage/tamper with Gannon and followed the guidelines from the league in when they could engage that the eagles and fangio would’ve known Gannon was highly likely to get the cardinals HC. Knowing that fangio wouldn’t have likely committed to the dolphins and stayed with the eagles as he likely gets the DC job.

From what I can gather, Denzel Mims has been a complete disaster for the Jets. He’s basically been their version of Jalen Reagor, only they kept him around an extra year. In no way should he be considered a good "get” for the Eagles.

I’d add Denzel mims’ quote about Philly after he was drafted doesn’t exactly make me want him nor think he’d do well here.

It is ironic that impaired is the aggravating factor in DUI but not a mitigating factor in the decision to drive drunk. It’s not a one way factor in clouding judgment.

We deal with impaired drivers all the time.  Eating, playing with the radio, talking on or dialing the phone, texting, reading (in the vehicle and billboards/signs), GPS, pretty girl walking by (or next to you in the vehicle) rote driving (anybody that denies driving by habit while commuting and you mind elsewhere if not lying is an amazing driver), conversing with a passenger, sneezing and coughing, dropping something or reaching for something, drinking, drugs (both illegal and legal - don’t take while operating machinery), old age or confusion, and sleep or tiredness. (Or just plain inattentiveness - left turn accidents are a leading cause of death, lane change are a leading frequency cause). But only DUI (alcohol and recreational drugs) of these gets a person jailed for it alone.

Are we really comparing eating a Big Mac or checking out some sidewalk buns in yoga pants to driving with a BAC twice the legal limit at 156 MPH? GTFO of here with that man, it's embarrassing.

Hard to really get a good read on a guy with so much athletic talent floundering in that dumpster fire of an organization. Wouldn't be my choice either, but I would be interested in kicking the tires on Corey Davis for sure if he's released.

The decision to drink is made and when it is made, while sober, the plan should be devised for how one will be getting home safely (for one's self and those around them).  It is for that reason that the designated driver campaign exists.  If you don't have a plan for how you will get home, then you shouldn't make the decision to drink.

Distracted driving, inattentive driving, etc. are all dangerous as well, but it is not the same as impaired driving.

I have been retired for five years, but the statistics for us showed that distracted driving were the same or worse than impaired driving.  Texting was really bad.  I am not advocating impaired driving, but distracted is just as dangerous (and most times just as consciously done).  That includes tiredness.  Falling asleep at the wheel was really bad yet only truck drivers have minimal sleep requirements.  I am not advocating impaired driving.  29% of driver fatalities had an impairment over .08.  (But that needs to be viewed with some skepticism because on death the body does metabolize to create some alcohol.) In my industry, we recorded cause factors.  So we had a better idea than most.  Police record some cause factors but because of DUI being a crime, it shows up statistically more in their reports. (Determining if texting or phone use was involved requires phone records.  We actually started doing discovery on those in some litigation.). Some of the others are difficult to prove and aren’t a factor on police reports but may be recorded by insurers.

Tucked into the inflation reduction act was a requirement that all new cars have a system to prevent operation of a vehicle while impaired. The NHSA has three years to propose the Rule to Congress.  Probably a passive method rather than blow into a tube.  With safety systems like rear end avoidance and lane change sensors, we can expect that cars will start to monitor distractions as well.  (I suspect the system will deviate from .08 as false positives would be a huge issue. (Want to F with your ex, just spray their car with aerosolized alcohol.)

My former industry does a lot for safety. (Look on just about any appliance for an Underwriters Laboratory seal, for example.)  They sponsor the Institute for Highway Safety. (IIHS) (I have been there.  It is really cool. Yes they crash cars with crash test dummies). An associated group is HLDI. The Highway Loss Data Institute.  They take data from insurers and look at accident causes.  Before I retired they gave a fascinating presentation to an industry group I chaired on safety systems and assisted driving.  We are on the third generation of collision avoidance (not rear ending safety approach), which can now "see” pedestrians.  The next big change will be headlights that turn with the car on the road.

But important to note when considering the impact of safety devices (or fuel efficiency quotas, climate change legislation, or self driving infrastructure), the average vehicle on the road is 12 years old.

I fear we have deviated a ways from Ruggs possible return to the NFL, so I will drop this discussion at this point.

I don’t mind desai. Excited to see how he does. But I’m guessing if you ask the Eagles, if they knew Gannon going to leave early (cardinals interviewed him earlier to give that indication) and they would’ve offered Vic Fangio the defensive coordinator job. I think that’s one of the reasons why the Eagles were so irritated and angry with how it went down. I think fangio left cause the eagles and fangio both thought Gannon was returning so couldn’t give him a DC job like Miami could. Was based on how no one else was talking to him after the Texans hired demeco until cardinals finally got involved around the Super Bowl week

Great.

The Fangio stuff aside, the Eagles tried really hard to keep Gannon. Remember the last ditch effort to sway him by offering him a pay raise?

Fangio would have been nice, but the Eagles' obsession with Gannon is something I never understood. Anyone who watched them under Gannon saw that against any real QB their defense always gets picked apart. I think Gannon was confirmation bias to them. They spoke so highly of him when he was hired and they wanted to be right about it.

They should've told Fangio regardless that the DC job is his, don't take anything else even before they got wind of Gannon's nonsense.

That said, Fangio is not Belichick. He's really good, but I do have hope Desai can be something really good having learned from him and other DCs around the NFL. People think highly of Desai.

I don’t recall where that report came from, but considering Gannon has obviously lied it wouldn’t shock me if that was something he or his agent planted at this point.

From Opinions are divided (@giantsyankees3): Any reason ILB Rashaan Evans is still unsigned? Finished 7th in the NFL in tackles and only 27.

Opinions, I don’t have a great answer for this one. He’s a good player, started 17 games for the Falcons last year, has produced for two teams and, like you said, is just 27.

It’s not like there aren’t faults to his game, but he’s a physical, run-and-hit, off-ball linebacker, and one Atlanta would’ve brought back on the right terms. And so my feeling is once the market fell out during free agency and you started seeing one-year deals, and minimum deals floating around, he figured waiting might behoove him.

This draft, by the way, wasn’t a great one for off-ball linebackers (only one, Lions first-rounder Jack Campbell, went in the first two rounds). So maybe, just maybe, he thought someone would come out of the draft with a need unaddressed, and he may be able to get a few extra bucks that weren’t there in March.

What I can say is he’s had offers and interest, so he’ll play somewhere next year. It’s just a matter of where and for what, at this point.

Any interest in Rashaan Evans for LB depth?

Fascinating, and I did not know this.  I can't think that this is something that's going to go by well by the American consumer.  You're telling me that if the blow tube has a malfunction that my car won't start!?

Don't get me wrong: this is clearly well intentioned, and driving impaired is wrong.  However, I'm skeptical about this approach.

Hard to say.  Fangio is 64.  We don’t know how longevity factored into decisions regarding him.  Still Fangio has family in the area.  From Dunmore.  Seems his kids rooted in Baltimore but daughter then joined the Army as a nurse.  Probably played a factor,in the consultation gig but maybe snowbirding played a factor in taking the Miami job.  He is a single guy.  No guarantee he would have been offered the Eagles job or that it wouldn’t have been a competition with Miami. Also, there is a possibility that he recommended Desai to Nick.

Well now you’re just fighting the report that of what schefter said that he probably would’ve stayed in Philadelphia if it didn’t go down that way. If you want to tell me you don’t fully believe what schefter said today that’s a different story. But based off which he came out and said on the radio today, it sounded like that’s who they wanted to hire if Gannon left if the cardinals handled the situation within the guidelines of the league. I think schefter put out the "probably” because he can’t come out and definitively say it because we’ll never know how it truly plays out cause of how the cardinals and Gannon handled the situation. But I’m guessing he has some really good sources to know that Gannon was likely going to be replaced by Fangio if they knew Gannon was leaving and  the cardinals followed nfl guidelines in interviewing Gannon/candidates. I don’t remotely think schefter put something out there like that unless he has enough sources telling him that was likely going to be the case.

And I can understand why the Eagles would be more pissed off with the tampering if that were the case more so than the whole he was distracted during the Super Bowl. Because if he was interviewing three weeks before and he knew he was getting the job he still could be distracted being in Arizona and leaving after the game. So that factor plus this makes even more sense about why they were so pissed off about when it went down

i’ll just leave it at this if the Eagles knew gannon was leaving before the NFL divisional round then I think Fangio is their number one candidate for DC. and I think Fangio no. 1 place he wanted to work was the Eagles hence why i think he was around the team as much as he was in his year off. Also think the eagles believed that Gannon could possibly be a HC in 2023 so having fangio around the team and helping made for an easier transition if that happened.

this is nothing against desai. I actually like that hire. This is more eagles likely had Fangio as their top candidate if they knew Gannon was leaving

Agreed.  Well intentioned things often have dramatically negative consequences though.  It is hard to legislate behaviors.  And it is hard to regulate behaviors with automation.
