Although Ive said before Id prefer a long time veteran coach for DC, something does intrigue me about successful college defensive coaches.

I feel like if you can stop or even slow down good college offenses, you're probably a genius.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

I dont know enough about the slot corners across the league but for me Maddox has always been a big "Meh".

Maddox is better than meh...but he's also very overrated.  Unfortunately, he's probably a restructure next year rather than moving on from him.

I was against signing him. not for so much talent (although he do think year to year in his rookie contract he was inconsistent with his play— though last two years when he’s played he’s been more consistent) but he is perpetually hurt. Only year he avoided injury was his contract year in 2021.

I think they’re one of the most intriguing teams in the league.

Maddox is a very good nickel CB ..... until the opponent decides they will put their WR1 into the slot to avoid Slay.  Then, Maddox looks not so good.

That's fair, another great player. I have gone back and watched highlights and can understand why, but 1990 was my beginning of high school, so Chuck was a little before my time.

I hear you. 1960 was my beginning of high school, so our respective tracks are parallel.

I was listening to NFL Radio last night and they have Ryan Harris doing shows now as a co-host.  My God, that guy has some horrible takes.  He said, of the Broncos' DC candidates, that Matt Patricia was BY FAR the best choice.  The host asked him "why not Rex Ryan?" and he replied "He's not a winner.  His defenses were all smoke and mirrors, and you knew he was just going to blitz on every 3rd and 4th down."

Now, I'm not a big fan of anything Rex Ryan -- but the guy won a Super Bowl as Ravens' DC and took the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games as a head coach -- THE F'N JETS -- to back-to-back AFC Championship games ... with Mark Sanchez at QB.  The defense was better than pretty good.

I believe the NFL game has quite possibly passed him by, but to say he's not a winner and his defenses were smoke and mirrors is pretty dumb.

It really shows how much luck is involved. How would we look at Howie if Robinson signed here and we use that first-round pick on Trent McDuffie instead of AJ Brown?

Huge butterfly effect though, as that likely means no Bradberry

He was an awesome DC with the ravens, but never won a SB. Marvin Lewis was the 2000 DC, and Rex Ryan was off the Ravens by… 08(?) to coach NYJ. When they won the SB in 2012 he was either still in NYJ or HC in Buf

You know I was thinking the same thing thinking that oh he's way past his prime as a coach but then I looked him up and he's only 60 years old.  Jeff Stoutland is 61 to put that in perspective.

The question isn't so much age I guess but his coaching philosophies vs. the NFL in 2023.  He's going on 7 years without coacing in the NFL but as an analyst he's been able to stay connected and close to the game.

I would be all for Rex Ryan.  For starters, you know he can coach defense.  Second, he's going to change the attitude of the defense.  I'm still big on drafting Calijah Kancey and Ivan Pace to get some dogs in here.  Third, you know guys are going to play for him and he will get the most out of them.

I'd say there's a 0% chance it happens as his name hasn't been linked at all but it's fun to think about.

It’s glorious

Sorry, you're correct.  He was the Ravens DL coach for that Super Bowl

Thank goodness the Rams recruited the heck out of a washed Allen Robinson.

This is why the off season is so intriguing and fun. Literally one bad vs good move can reshape your entire organization for years. It's crazy. Howie really stepped in crap because this team with Robinson instead of Brown is no where near this good.

He was top 10 in the position before the injury.

Also, I always see the comments that the Eagles won their 1st SB wearing Midnight Green so you can't change it since that's the uniform of winners, a few in that thread.  Well, the Eagles have now lost 2 SBs in Midnight Green.  So IMO, that argument is silly.

Life is stranger than fiction

Wrong.

Just to riff off this list a bit to project comp picks... Let’s assume that Lamar Jackson and Daniel Jones are franchise tagged and Geno re-signs with Seattle as expected. Carr doesn’t affect the comp pick formula since he was released.

I think there’s a chance that Hargrave nets is a third round pick. Bates will get a ton of money. Jimmy G isn’t in the list but he’ll get paid well. Daron Payne would probably get more than Hargrave based on youth, but even he might be franchise-tagged. Dean I suppose could due to being the best young corner in the market. Brown will get big money even though he’s an average starting LT.

Hargrave’s per year salary could be among the top five among comp pick eligible players to change teams.

So Eagles fans are basically people from Philly and people who became fans with Cunningham and stayed loyal all these years? I'm also in that second crew. Started with Cunningham, then the Buddy Ryan D of that era cemented it and I've never looked back.

There was an OG poster back in the day that fit that mold.  From CT, no Eagles ties whatsoever.  Cunningham brought him to the birds, and he is such a huge fan to this day that when he moved to ATL, he literally picked a random bar, figuratively planted a flag there, and declared it is an eagles bar now.
