While I think Steen was a good draft pick, we're talking a college OT making the transition to OG and learning a new offense and revamping his technique under Stoutland's guidance.

A redshirt season is more likely than a starting berth.

Dickerson played guard at FSU for two years, played guard at Alabama before switching to center. He played more games at guard than center between the two schools.

Do we need to cover the litany of examples that counter this?  Just for the Eagles in the past 20 years alone?

Cutting players before an investigation is a terrible precedent to set. I’ve said this before. This opens the door for any crazy fan to accuse a great player right before the season or a playoff game of rape or something. What’s stopping some nutjob Bills or Bengals fan of coming out right before a playoff game and saying Mahomes raped me in a bar bathroom 5 years ago to knock him out of the game?

if Araiza is innocent he should sue the girl and the bills.

There’s a pretty big difference between accusing someone blindly and Araiza who was at the party and did admit to having sex with her. It’s not like he was never there at all or didn’t have any interaction with the accuser. Also, they can’t confirm he was there because he wasn’t on the video clips of the alleged gang rape, so they have to believe his word on it. The story sounds sketchy at best for anyone involved including the accuser.

Yeah, this is from the original reports…

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-11149189/amp/Bills-punter-Matt-Araiza-told-rape-accuser-17-tested-STDs.html

Officers coached her on calling Araiza, which she did 10 days later as detectives recorded it, according to the complaint.

During the call, Araiza acknowledged having sex with her, the lawsuit states, but later, when she asked him 'And did we have actual sex?' he responded 'This is Matt Araiza. I don't remember anything that happened that night' and hung up.

But before getting off the phone, Araiza did tell Doe to get tested for chlamydia.

'Araiza told Doe that he had tested positive for chlamydia, at which time Doe was instructed to say, ''So you know what to get tested for Ok, that makes me feel a bit better.'''

False accusations need to face the same jail terms as the person accused.

Apparently in California you can use a minor lying about their age as defense in a statutory rape case. It’s one of the few states where you can do that.

I assumed Araiza was going to be in trouble regardless if he was part of the "gang rape” allegations.

Also, it felt really gross to google that.

I’d bet it’s not even really news to NFL teams, the public is just finding out now why criminal charges were never brought onto him. I’m sure the Eagles pay Dom well, as do other investigators from some other NFL organizations.

The Bills have no liability for cutting him.

So let’s just scare people more who are already scared to come forth to begin with?

I get what you’re saying, and people blatantly lying should be punished in some way. I just don’t ever see how something like that is remotely possible legally and it would be far more damaging to society than helpful.

Fyi, lying to the police is already a crime.

Yea. But that’s not really the context of the conversation. We are talking about accusations. Someone lying about an accusation isn’t something easy to prove and charge as a crime. People doing so with the wrong intentions should be charged but overall what determines a false accusation? Not having enough evidence to charge, not being found guilty by a jury? And again, trying to put someone in jail over an accusation isn’t going to help a person that has a legit accusation come forth about it.

There’s multiple videos of this girl consenting to and having sex willingly with multiple people and the prosecutors saw NO evidence of anything against her consent. Araiza was also gone before the alleged gang rape occurred. This kid’s life was ruined when this girl was going around telling guys, "I want you to F me, and if you don’t you’re a p.” This girl had major morning after regrets and saw a way to sue a few college football players and get some settlements.

And that’s why I specifically have been calling her the "accuser” and not "victim.”

But that doesn’t mean anyone that gives an accusation that can’t be proven true should serve jail time equivalent to rape.

It’s a gross situation that I don’t feel like commenting on anymore. At best he made a dumb mistake. If he’s so obviously clear based on what the prosecutor said in 2021, he should be signed to an NFL, XFL, CFL or USFL team then. Hell, Josh Sills is actually criminally charged and still technically on the team.

Her Dad found out and she made up the story because she's just an innocent little flower.

There are people doing victory laps with Ariaza being "innocent", which shouldn't be done. It honestly just looks bad for all involved.

No one deserves victory laps at all, agreed.  However, it sounds like a college sloot got a train run on her, while being recorded on a cell phone.  Not sure what the appeal to that is to anyone.  Ariaza's character can 100% be questioned for taking part in that, but the fact that all it took was her word to potentially ruin his life and career goals is one of the factors in this story. It's just a thin dangerous line where someone can say one thing and then the most serious of actions are taken before anything comes out to help defend the truth or show the real truth.

The difference there is…one’s a punter and one’s an o lineman.

He was not even at the house when the group sex thing occurred. But I agree, victory laps look awful.

Someone will sign Araiza now that the charges against him have been dropped.  The Bills likely cut him because his version of events was similar to what he said on the phone, "I don't remember; hopefully she got tested for STD's if she was with me".

The prosecutor saying he wasn't present for the alleged assault was probably news to him, just like everyone else:

Charges weren’t "dropped”, he was never charged to begin with. And again, the prosecutor saying there’s no evidence of him being there at the time happened in 2021. This is only "news” to the public of why he was never charged with a crime back when the accusation was made years ago.

His civil lawsuit is still open.

As I understand the investigation, noting that details are withheld in a criminal investigation,  a significant issue regarding consent involved providing alcohol to a minor.  This is a slippery slope because, as we discussed with Ruggs the other day, intoxicants impair judgment and diminishes consent.  The "minor” issue is less of an issue for me, because I personally imbibed willingly and of my own volition as a minor.  There isn’t some magical switch that turns on at 15, 16, 18 or 21 that changes maturity or judgment.  IIRC a principle part of the allegations dealt with the provision of alcohol.  The "you got me drunk” allegation is troubling because the truth is that each of us gets ourselves drunk/high. If Ruggs is fully, and in the view of some well deserving of a harsh punishment, why is the minor here so less responsible for her poor judgment.  Blame the whiskey?

Is he? He was an Eagle when he was placed on the commissioner’s reserve list.  He is innocent until proven guilty. But I don’t know what his standing is with the team other than he is currently in a state of suspension. Given that others were immediately cut for criminal arrests, like Huff and Worley, the Sills situation seems highly unusual for the Eagles.
