20 years. They've taken 8 defensive players in round 1 since 2002 and none were anything but DL. I agree they like to invest in offense in the draft first, but when they do go defense it's always line. I get the philosophy, but it has to change at a certain point. We'll get a good idea this year, because it's highly likely CB is the best player on the board. If they go Brian Bresee or Van Ness at 10 instead of CB then it will show how blind they are to any slight philosophical deviation. I'd agree with their philosophy if they didn't struggle to fix the secondary for years. 2022 was the first year they had a viable secondary in a long time and it kinda fell into their laps with a robbery trade for CGJ and Bradberry getting cut. They can't rely on that though, they need to start drafting DBs in round 1 to fill out that part of the roster. They've invested so many non day one picks there and they just haven't worked out.

Derek Barnett was an under the radar really bad pick in a bad 2017 Eagles draft, no question.  I thought for sure Jonathan Allen would be the pick; if they didn't like his medical then Marlon Humphrey would have been a better pick as well.  I think they had tunnel vision on Barnett and didn't adjust to how the board fell.

As has been mentioned before, the Eagles were very interested in Surtain and Jaycee Horn, but both went before the Eagles pick.  Hopefully teams reach on QBs this draft and push the premium athletes down to #10.

Not even to 10, just a little further down than they should go. I’d be 100% content with packaging the 30th if Carter or Anderson fall to 5 (if 3 QBs in top 4, very plausible)

If Will Anderson falls, you gotta take him. Or Wilson. But I'd probably take WItherspoon or Porter over Murphy. Not by a wide margin, but I do feel CB is a premium position, this is a strong CB draft class, and they should be taking advantage of strong draft classes at certain positions. They could take care if their CB problem for the foreseeable future in this draft alone. Especially if they keep Hargrave, even with some of their losses, I think their DL will be fine. I think addressing secondary is a must in this draft.

No way need both picks. Great talent at 10 too

Who projected to be at 10 would you consider a great talent?

Not snarky, just seems like most have this as a weak class in that range.

I still think Howie will pick at #10 and move the #30 pick for additional picks.  One scenario could be to drop back to #42 and trade with CLE for the Browns to make a first round pick, and recoup a couple of mid round picks in the process.

I’m in the minority here, but I fully believe Hopkins is still a top 5 WR. Only played 9 games last year due to suspension, and was still on pace for 1350 yards(if 17 games) despite playing on that terrible team with a bad backup QB and Kyler out for the season.

If I’m a fringe playoff team with a top 15 QB, a first round pick for DHop is an easy yes… and he may not even cost that much.

Geno-Metcalf-Hopkins

Rodgers-Watson/Adams/GWilson-Hopkins

Lawrence-Kirk-Hopkins

Wilson-Jeudy-Hopkins

Prescott-Lamb-Hopkins

Jackson-Andrews-Hopkins

Cousins-Jefferson-Hopkins

….Mahomes-Kelce-Hopkins?

Slam dunk after slam dunk. Man this offseason is gonna be fun

Hopkins with Mahomes or Rodgers would be fun to watch

Revisionist history. The Eagles have typically put their high end draft assets into both lines and Barnett was projected to go just before or just after the Eagles picked. It didn't work out and maybe you even wanted someone else at the time but on paper it was not a bad pick let alone a really bad pick as you described.

I think 6 of the top 10 picks , could be used on QB and OT

Not opposed to dealing 30 for the right price

though i think there is a good chance to get an edge rusher in that range

I would keep 10, they are going to need an immediate impact player on the defense, likely at CB.

I would trade down from 30 to the late 30's/early 40's. They need to get back an extra pick or two since they have no picks in rounds 4-6. Not sure what the trade chart says but it would be nice to get back a 3 and a 5 or something like that to move down to the early 40's.

We'd really have to hope that 2 QB's go in the top 3 for any trade up to make sense.  The Colts are my target.  Eagles have a trade history with the Colts via Wentz and now with Steichen there, they have an even better connection.  You have to think the Colts want their franchise QB and if Stroud and Young are both gone and they don't think Levis is the guy, maybe they want to move down.  Maybe they think they could get Levis at 10.

Pick 10 is worth 1300.  30 is worth 620. Eagles 3rd round pick, 94, is worth 124

The Colts sit at pick 4 valued at 1800. Colts 3rd round pick, 79, is worth 195. Their 5th, 138, is worth 37.5 and 162 is 25.4

Colts get: Pick 10, 30, 94 (2,044 points)

Eagles get: Pick 4,79, 138, 162 (2,058 points)

I don't see the hype with Jalen Carter, I just don't get it with him.  He seems so overrated to me but again, I'm just a guy...every scout and draft guru has him #1 or at least top 3 so there's something there.  I would LOVE Will Anderson but we'd be drafting him to sit behind Reddick.  Unless they go true 3-4 and then you have Reddick and Anderson as your edge guys...oh my.

We lost our first FA.

Colts are basically yelling from the mountaintops they won’t leave this draft without one of the big QBs.

You have to remember that lead-up hype in a draft always benefits QBs. If you told people Trey Lance, Carson Wentz, Josh Allen were going top 5 in January of those draft years, people would have said you were nuts. And Will Levis is exactly what those guys were: purely raw, physical specimens. Premium clay to sculpt with. But what happens leading up to the draft is teams fall in love with guys, owners emit pressure, and QB stock elevates to the pinnacle.

There are a ton of teams desperate this year for a young QB with huge upside. So much so that I would be really surprised if Will Levis isn’t the 3rd QB taken at 4th overall. Texans, Colts and 1 other will 100% go QB in the top 4 IMO. Just matters on who trades up with Chicago or Arizona.

I could be totally way off, but right now I’m expecting Anderson or Carter to be available at 5.

Yea, I'm just playing the draft trade game.  The Colts and Eagles could make that trade tomorrow and the Colts could still trade back up with 10 and 30 if a QB falls.  Never going to happen but you never know.

What is it about Skoronski that you like as a match to Stoutland? Heis probably the most NFL-ready OT, so high floor, but his measurables, especially his short arms, make him more like Driscoll than like Lane.  The drop off in terms of NFL-readiness from Skoronski to Paris Johnson is minimal, and Johnson's measurables (and therefore his upside ceiling) are considerably better.  Broderick Jones has the best athleticism and measurables, but his experience level as a starter is minimal. At 6 feet 4 inches I'd like to see him be a bit taller.

I don't see it with Carter either; I went back and watched more film and I don't see anything explosive or dominating in his game.  He picked up a QB with one arm after the play was over, but yeah ... not a lot else that stuck out.

I'm out on Skoronski, shorter arms , not all that physical. I'm not seeing the fit here. Soft pass. Love those two CB's though of course

The return on all of those defensive players, as a whole, has been bad.

The eagles franchise has been one of the most successful franchises in that time span. Not sure that it "has” to change anytime soon.

Anyone know what would’ve the Saints pick been if we didn’t blow that game?
