We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

A 7th round pick has the option of not signing.

The team still controls his rights, though. So if he doesn't sign, he is not playing in the nfl.

Can’t remember too many players doing what Le’Veon Bell did either cause

For one year. Then he goes back into the draft.

That year. The rights to a draftee only last for approximately 12 months.

One late round pick I still lament to this day is not taking Trey Smith. I remember wanting the Eagles to grab him in that draft and of course he goes to the Chiefs. He would've filled in at RG and they could've traded Seumalo or let him walk with the heir apparent ready to go. He and Dickerson would've been a monster OG combo for years. They Fing took Jacoby Stevens that round... ugh.

It’s that Howie Silence again…

Yes but Leveon bell actually happened. 7th rounders refusing to sign has never happened

That ties into what I was talking about yesterday. They never have any young stud DBs, because they don't invest first round picks in them. Plain and simple. This team as good as it was this past year had to go to Josiah freaking Scott when they had a CB injury. He's not an NFL player. This team hasn't had CB depth for years. They haven't had a high caliber home grown CB since Lito and Sheldon. They don't invest in it. That's why they have so many misses. It's hard to nail that position in later rounds.

This has to be the year they do it. It's a rich CB draft, they can get one of the top guys. I actually hope they draft two considering Slay could be a cap casualty one of these upcoming years.

Something alarming about this is in the past 5 years there have only been 20 first or second team all pro spots. Of those 20, 15 have been revolving doors?

Very rarely do our pre-free agency talks leak. He’s one of the best ever at that.

I remember the Bradford trade being a surprise free agency day breaking news, and we found out they were working on it for weeks. Same with trading for AJ, same with Drafting Jalen, same with Nnamdi. I still remember Dallas on the verge of signing Nnamdi, and then suddenly, "A team that’s been lurking this whole time just made an offer and Dallas is out of it!” And the whole nfl waited with bated breath for an hour before it was announced it was freaking Roseman.

Howie loves this reputation he has as a snake in the grass.

10 are revolving doors. 5 players have made it twice.

2018:Kye Fuller, Stephon Gilmore 1st team, Byron Jones, Xavien Howard 2nd team

2019: Stephon Gilmore, Tre'Davious White 1st team. Richard Sherman, Marcus Peters 2nd team.

2020: Xavien Howard, Jalen Ramsey 1st team. Jaire Alexander, Tre'Daviosu White 2nd team.

2021: Trevon Diggs, Jalen Ramsey 1st team. JC Jackson, AJ Terrell 2nd team.

2022: Sauce Gardner, Patrick Surtain II 1st team. Jaire Alexander, James Bradberry 2nd team.

What that tells me is this isn’t like receiver or Oline or QB or RB. You either get one of those 3-4 guys who consistently contend for the position, or it’s a crapshoot. With that perspective, choosing CB as the position to attack in FA and trades for guys who you already know panned out is a pretty good way to go about it. Asante, Slay, Bradberry, Darby, Hobbs, Robinson

Maybe, depends on roster building philosophy. The only guy on that list that made it more than once on a team different than drafted was Jalen Ramsey and that cost the Rams a fortune.

edit: forgot about Gilmore. Two players.

We’re not in a position where both the draft assets and the contract price are in our wheelhouse. If it was, then just bring back Bradberry and save the first rounder

It feels like it's becoming a position that has become more sure-fire with first round talent. Sauce, Surtain, Horn, Stingley Jr., AJ Terrell. There's some misses in there like Okudah and Farley, but it feels like the guys coming out now are extremelty talented. They're in a good spot at #10 if they want to take one of those caliber guys.

Bruce Clark

The Green Bay Packers possessed the fourth overall pick of the 1980 NFL Draft and, looking for a nose tackle, GM/head coach Bart Starr drafted defensive end Bruce Clark out of Penn State - even though Starr was well aware that Clark refused to switch positions. Figuring he would eventually relent, Starr made the pick anyway, and true to his word, Clark refused to sign. This was mishandled so badly by Green Bay that they couldn’t even manage to trade Clark and get something - anything - in return before their draft rights expired.

Instead, Clark opted to play for the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, where he remained for two seasons before eventually signing with the New Orleans Saints for seven years (1982 to 1988), and the Kansas City Chiefs in 1989, his final season.

Sounds like the market may no be as hot as the Rams would like.
