The 2 best "corners” the Eagles have drafted in the last 15 years are Jalen Mills and Avonte Maddox. Howies MO has been to pay for a big FA and fill in the 2nd spot with a 3rd day pick or a bargain FA.

I would love for them to pull the trigger on one at 10, but doubt they would.

Isn’t how we lost Raheem Brock after drafting him in the 7th was because we couldn’t agree to terms?

What DL besides Fletcher Cox and BG have the Eagles hit on in the 1st round over the last 20+ years?  Shoot, we can go 30 years.

They've made 25 1st round picks since 1995.  2007 and 2008 were traded away.  11 of them or 44% of the 1st round picks they've made since 1995 have been on the DL.

The only sure fire home run was Fletcher Cox.  No one wanted BG here prior to 2017 but he's now become an Eagles legend.  Mike Patterson was about as bleh a 1st round pick you can have.  He has the 3rd longest tenure of modern Eagles DL draft picks but did he make any impact on the team?  Barnett made 2 huge plays during the SB run but otherwise?

1995- Mike Mamula- 5 years with Eagles.  Not the bust he's made out to be, however, given the circumstances and players available (Warren Sapp) he's an all-time blunder and ended up geting cut.

1997- Jon Harris- 2 years with the Eagles.  Complete bust.

2000- Corey Simon- 5 years with the Eagles.  Was great before he got lazy and greedy.  More sacks as a DT (32.5) than Mamula (31.5) while playing just 1 more game as an Eagle.  Held out then cut.

2003- Jerome McDougle- 3 years with the Eagles.  Best play was hit on Eli Manning.  Got shot but even before that, he was a bust.

2005- Mike Patterson- 8 years with the Eagles.  One of the least flashy draft picks ever.  Never played up to 1st round billing but solid rotational peice.

2006- Brodrick Bunkley- 5 years with the Eagles.  Ended up getting traded for a 5th round pick.  Despite lasting 5 years, he's a bust.

2010- Brandon Graham- 13 years with the Eagles.  The Earl Thomas argument is long gone.  Surprisingly, didn't for a full season until his 7th season.  We love BG now, but the first half of his career wasn't much to be happy about.  Intersting stat.  13 years with the Eagles, has only started every game 4 times.

2012- Fletcher Cox- 12 years iwth the Eagles.  Another all-timer.  No arguments need to be made.  Our gripes with Cox are as of late with his contract vs production.

2014- Marcus Smith- 3 years with the Eagles.  BUST

2017- Derek Barnett- 6 years with the Eagles.  Probably only got 2nd contract with team based on cap and who was available.  Best plays were huge.  Vikings sack and SB FR.  Still, hasn't played anywhere near his draft position.

2022- Jordan Davis- 2nd year with Eagles.  TBD what he becomes.

I don't know.  I wouldn't say the Eagles have been all that great at drafting DL.

Nobody wanted Graham here prior to the SB?!? Lol, now I know I'm probably 1 of 3 that was happy with him over Thomas but huh!??!

Thomas was great because of the rest of the team in Seattle.  He most likely would have busted out here not having the talent he had around him.

If Jamel Dean isn't an A-hole, I think I'd rather just use the Hargrave money on him and draft another DT.

Richardson is going to light the combine on fire like no other QB in history, coupled with the fact that it will be evident fairly early that he has the biggest arm with the tightest release, it will be more than enough for at least sucker to bite.

The damn near miraculous development of Hurts and Allen as elite passers will give a lot of teams hope that they can develop Richardson.

If he was more of a dynamic runner I could possibly see someone doing something stupid, but at the end of the day he has terrible accuracy, vision, mechanics and is a straight line athlete.  I wouldn't even draft him, he should have stayed in school.

Rasul Douglas is good.

We ran out of rookie pool money so we released him I believe but that stemmed from a terms disagreement originally

Raheem Brock played college football at Temple. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft, but was never signed by them. Brock subsequently played for the Indianapolis Colts for eight years, winning Super Bowl XLI with them over the Chicago Bears, and he also played with the Seattle Seahawks.

Witherspoon at 10 feels like a homerun the more film I watch. He's got 'it.'

Not sure Eagles can afford him.

They very likely can. You extend him 3 years with 2 extra void years. Convert a bunch of this years salary to bonuses which can be spread out over years. I bet Howie ends up making him cost about 8 million against this years cap.

The question is whether youd want your big move to be a 28 year old man coverage CB who constantly gambles and gets burnt.  Or if youd rather go for another position, and get younger. Trading a 1st for some DL is probably the better move.

Witherspoon, and Ramsey wouldnt be a terrible way to get younger and cheaper. Let Bradberry walk. Not sure if theres any way to get out of Slay's contract with any cap savings though.

I wonder if you could have Slay, and Ramsey with Witherspoon in the slot for a year till Slay expires.

Odd tweet. Brings me back to the other day wondering if Wilson’s even under contract still.

That ties into what I was talking about yesterday. They never have any young stud DBs, because they don't invest first round picks in them. Plain and simple. This team as good as it was this past year had to go to Josiah freaking Scott when they had a CB injury. He's not an NFL player. This team hasn't had CB depth for years. They haven't had a high caliber home grown CB since Lito and Sheldon. They don't invest in it. That's why they have so many misses. It's hard to nail that position in later rounds.

This has to be the year they do it. It's a rich CB draft, they can get one of the top guys. I actually hope they draft two considering Slay could be a cap casualty one of these upcoming years.

Yea, it's been frustrating to see the patchwork secondary they've been going with for some time.  They've invested more 5th, 6th, 7th and UDFA than anything else to try to fix CB.  Yea, they've traded for Slay and signed Bradberry, but again, they aren't long term solutions.  They need some young talent, not just young bodies.

Maybe he found out it's going to someone else or maybe Wilson is getting it or maybe it means nothing

If there’s no difference between the 7th round and UDFAs as you assert….why even have the 7th round?

It makes me wonder if the team picked the DC and told the players before it’s announced tomorrow. It seems like we picked someone else than Wilson and they want to hype him up now.

Damn. I hope it’s Dennard. That might draw #23 back

I just won a rock-paper-scissors battle. I’m more competitive than you.

I just checked out Camerun Peoples from App State. Hes gotta be a late rounder I think mainly because he bounces outside. He looks like he needs to learn to play within an offense.

But he does have redeeming qualities that make him worthy of a late pick.

He is 6'2'' 220. Although he bounces outside a lot, he does use his size to finish off runs. Hes not just a finesse guy who is wasting his size. The way he bounces outside shows surprising agility. His juke is very effective. And he appears to be deceptively fast. He has pretty long strides and I think he has decent speed.

Even better, even more likely to be successful in whatever role he can grab on to- Tavion Thomas of Utah is a very Jordan Howard-esque runner. He is 6'2'' 221, and is nothing but straight ahead, strong running. Hes not going to break many explosive plays. But he can potentially consistently gain chunks. Somewhere on the spectrum between Jordan Howard, and 2017 Jay Ajayi. If Sanders is cheap to keep, this is your ideal late round pick to be the complement. Short yardage, goal line guy who you dont mind spot starting at all.
