I'm not defending the NFL but your premise assumes that the world operates on an objectively sound merit basis. It does not and therefore there needs to be guardrails against nepotism, biases, corruption, etc. Again, not taking the position that anyplace does this correctly, just that the idea that we live in a meritocracy is ill-posed. Coaches often hire their friends. That is not merit-based, it is relational-based and as fans we experience this dysfunction in terms of bad coaching all the time. Organizations do it as well with their heroes. Bobby Clark was a great player, hero of the organization but a highly flawed GM. He got the position and held on to it because of relational entitlements, not performance based merit, IMO. So, there are bad faith actors on all sides of our highly flawed "meritocracy"

PS. no intention that this is interpreted as political. It is organizational dysfunction.

0 and 00 should also be different numbers. 0 for the 1-10 players and 00 for the 90-99 players

It's impossible to guard against bias and nepotism though, without impeding an organization or institutions individual freedoms. At the end of the day, in most cases, merit or perceived merit will win out due to the simple fact that any organization is going to select those who better them and makes them most successful so they continue to be profitable. Organizations and their CEOs will always choose self preservation first, as in the person who makes them the most money. Otherwise they'll be out of a job.

There is no perfect system, you have to choose the fairest one and live with any potential drawbacks. The fairest system will have the fewest drawbacks.

Australia pro league is where Brett Brown coached Ben's dad.

The Young Socialite isn't going there and leaving the NBA money though.

He might have to if nobody wants him.

Maybe Lebron will take him.  Remember.....he makes everyone around him better.  At least that's what I'm told.

I believe I remember Sean Payton being fascinated with Wentz when he was at New Orleans.  Maybe the Broncos pick him up.

You are correct but most here won’t see that. The NFL went decades with racist hiring practices and it didn’t sort itself out. It’s easy to say eventually the market will correct when you’re not the one being discriminated against.  That’s not to say the Rooney rule works but it’s clear that it’s not a self-correcting issue either

What a QB room that would be.

Nah. Sean Payton's whole stance with Wentz was once he hits a certain number of passes he's going to lose the game.

Basically the key to beating him is putting the game in his hands. Doesn't sound like he would want him.

Amazing that a good coach could say something so dumb.

What were the racist hiring practices?  Not being a smart ass, I've just never heard of any truly racist actions.  Not hiring a black coach isn't racist.  Hiring "friends" or people you know of is the benefit of having a network.  The more former players who are black and the more black coaches get in the pipeline, the more will be in the network.

This is why I think the XFL and USFL could be great proving grounds for minority coaches.  Get experience, get connected as a coach, instead of as a former player, and you'll be more likely to land a job...provided you're a successful coach.

I expect R Moss , L Musgrave , Losivas and Mazi Smith to kill the combine

Raiders surprise trade up for Young and sign Wentz, my random prediction

The fairest system to whom?

Fournette can still play , good receiver , pass protection has improved

he is a cap casualty, and they like Rachad White

Donovan Smith to be cut too

Fournette wearing down defenses in a read option would be nasty. As long as he didn’t fumble, I’m cool with him. With Gainewell as the sub/split back

Why do minority coaches have to prove themselves in the XFL and USFL? Where are white coaches proving themselves?

Ugh.  Kenny Gainwell is a nice back but he is not a lead back.  If the Eagles go in to the draft with that mindset and continually pass on RB talent, I'm not gonna be happy.

Believe nothing you hear until the draft.

With the Colts he won 7 straight games, and was 7-2, when throwing 30 or less passes. The two losses were the last two games which likely is what got him traded. He was 2-6 when throwing over 30 passes.

With the Redskins he went 1-4 to start the season throwing over 30 passes every game. It's not exactly the most baseless statement.

Fairest system = system that benefits the most overall people and makes most logical sense in practice. There is no system that exists in the world where every single person in existence wins.

Called it.

You also misspelled the word "feet,” which renders your prediction meaningless.

Bo and Berman seem to think the Eagles could let CGJ and Hargrave walk. I really don't think there's any chance that happens. The Eagles value DT so highly and there's no obvious replacement for Hargrave. And CGJ is the first quality safety they've had in years and can't see them just letting him walk. Even with the compensatory picks factored in.

There is zero chance they let CGJ walk. Hargrave I can see as a toss up depending on $ and draft plans.
