The fact that they offered him more to stay AND extended Michael Clay sure is strange.  Do we question their judgement because of that?

I sure do. At the very least it tells you they saw no one on the horizon as being as GOOD let alone better than Gannon. (when you consider what continuity brings to the tabke included)

To them their best option was keeping Gannon, so if they were/are right- then thats bad because obviously Gannon was not all that great- a major reason we lost the SB despite having one of the most talened Defenses the Eagles have had since 1991- and if they were/are wrong - well thats bad because - their judgement is flawed.

So yeah I question all of it.

I think he's a better fit at HC than DC anyway. It didn't seem like he learned anything from year 1 to year 2 because he had the same deficiencies. The only difference was that the talent was astronomically better.

Imo the mark of a really good defensive coordinator is if you can maximize the talent that you have but also when you are given less than ideal talent and injuries that you can build them up and still be good/competent. I think next year that was going to be the case. Losing a bunch of talent and unlikely 11 out of 11 starters are healthy by the time the playoffs rolled around. So you better have been able to build up some of the lesser talent and some of the younger talent because otherwise you were going to be in a world of trouble.

We can say whatever we want but I give jim Schwartz a lot of credit for 2018. that defense had a crap load of injuries. But by the time they got to that divisional round playoff game, they might not have been great or even top-five, but they were competent enough to keep you in the game. he adjusted to the talent and injuries he had to deal with and put them in a position to be successful.

no offense to Gannon, i think the only way his system and his style would have a chance to work against better offenses and QBs in the league is if he has a stacked roster. What’s more mind blowing in all this are the stats that kapadia dropped in the Philly special podcast. this wasn’t just mahomes is gonna mahomes. He put up some of the best analytical numbers of his entire career against Gannon. I could understand 2021 with the talent but SB you had arguably one of the most talented defenses in the league. Sheil said it best in that podcast about how poorly he thought the game plan was

Or maybe Sirianni.   If you’re the Eagles, it’s already bad enough you’re losing both coordinators.   Now imagine those former coordinators starting plucking away your assistant coaches as well.

I'm still not over it. Still get pissed thinking about it. We all know how hard it's to get to the SB. When we lost in 2004 it took us till 2017 to get to another one. So many things have to fall in place. And to not win it after being up by 10 at a half is a colossal failure.

This were the "Character concerns" that Todd McShay leaked a month ago

That all can be true.  And since a lot of fans are thinking it, why throw fuel on the fire in the middle of a contract negotiation?  Not only does it hurt his chances of resigning here - it certainly doesn’t help him get a better deal somewhere else.

Most teams don’t put up with players tweeting bad things about their coaches - especially weeks later, after the fact.

When Brad Childress got the HC job in Minnesota, it was reported that AR told him congrats - leave my staff alone! Find your own guys. I think it's unwritten rule/courtesy to not pilfer the staff of the team your leaving. I'll give Gannon the benefit of doubt and assume he was unaware until after the hire.

In those days you could block coordinator hires if the guy is still under contract. You can't do that now.  I have no problem with guys being able to leave for coordinator jobs.

Gannon took ownership of the performance. He didn’t point the finger at the players. He said he learned a lot from that game. It sucks that he was bad, but CJGJ tweeting that is dumb. Keep it in house.

Gannon took ownership by ducking the media after the Super Bowl.

Gannon isn't in house anymore, he's on another team.

John Johnson being released by Cleveland unless a trade is made...  Any interest in trade or waiting until he is released?

I think they could only block a "promotion" by adding a title of "assistant HC"

I'm a big fan, but he was overpaid from the jump.

Signing Johnson doesn't hurt our comp picks too

When the eagles trade for him, people knew he ran his mouth and said a lot things. Heck it was discussed on the blog about why some were worried about his acquisition. i  think around the league people already knew that’s the type of personality he has. I’m guaranteeing some team is still gonna pay him top of the market money even with throwing Gannon under the bus. If he wasn’t going to be here I don’t think the Jonathan Gannon comment has anything to do with it. It has to do with the fact the Eagles don’t feel like paying a safety that type of money and they don’t think with the cap ramifications going forward that they want to do that deal.

You have to wait until he's released.  The Eagles really don't have any trade chips outside of Quez Watkins.  Until they get some mid-round picks (hopefully), this team is what it is.  I'm sure Howie will prove me wrong and get creative in his trades or make a trade involving players I'm not thinking of.

If CJG doesn't come back nad Johnson is available, I'd be interested.  Bring in him and Nasir Adderly.  Nice set of younger veteran safeties.

Right? Is anybody really surprised that he would be the guy that said it? This was the case when we traded for him that was a concern. That’s who he is.

that said I don’t think a team who really wants him in free agency is gonna be like you know what you threw Jonathan Gannon under the bus on Twitter after losing the Super Bowl so we are not gonna go after you. He’s a top talent at safety and there’s been players who’ve done far worse where teams still paid and went after him. Whether it’s the eagles or not is another story. Frankly i think of the eagles move on it’s more about financially paying him what he wants and the cap flexibility/situation going forward

Gannon is no longer "IN HOUSE"

I can't find the exact quote but Sirianni at some point said something to the affect of "they better not take any of my guys with them", so I guess Gannon is referencing that, maybe in a joking way. Rallis was always considered a "JG guy" so I think it's understandable why he took him.

Who cares? Gannon is gone, hopefully CGJGGJGJG is back. This is a big nothing burger

Yea, I don't think it alters his free agency by any means. If anything it might sour the Eagles a little bit, but that could be a stretch too. If anyone is mad he did it, its probably his agent.

The fact he drove off after he saw the accident is such a POS move. Idk how you see something like that especially with teammates and people you are close with and can just drive away

Bad phrasing. He should keep it in private.
