A 2nd for a 31 year old who's missed 9 games due to injury over the last 2 years seems steep to me.

Most of it was from 1 major injury, which he came back 100% from last year.

He had 700 yards in 9 games after his suspension, which would have averaged out to a 1300+ yard season. A 1300 yard season with, oh by the way, guys throwing passes who had no business starting NFL games because Kyler was injured.

His disappoint in that situation was in line with CeeDee Lamb’s career year. Dude is only 6 months older than Davante Adams. Get him on a competent offense and watch him put up all pro numbers again.

Interesting. You mention him possibly being a 5 tech, which obviously isn’t an edge. I’ve read others project him as an inside rusher and base end in early downs. I thought Karlaftis was better.

I know it's not edge, but he's just got a build that could handle it and if you watch his highlights, he makes a lot of plays lined up inside or on inside stunts.  Karlaftis is another good comparison for him. Nearly identical size.

Karlaftis played 26 games over 3 seasons totaling 14 sacks and 29 TFL

Van Ness played 26 games over 2 seasons totaling 13 sacks and 19 TFL.  He also never started a game so he's still raw.

I just think in the long run, he's going to have a very good NFL career.

Is anyone going to complain about training camp being too short or soft this year?

Yes.  Will Anderson is going to have to go to the right team that knows how to use him.  He's not a typical DE.  He needs to go to a team that knows how to use a rush OLB.

I see Van Ness as just as a steady DE who could play DE in a 4-3 or even a 5 technique in a 3-4.  This is going to sound like a lazy comparison because of his skin tone, but he reminds me a lot of Ryan Kerrigan.  He's a BIG10 lunchpail DE and he's barely tapped in to his potential.

He’s not really that "lunch pail” profile though. He didn’t get a ton of snaps, didn’t even start a lot.

He’s a boom or bust flashy athlete type of profile.

I think he has the potential to be a lunchpail kind of guy though.  He's still young, only a RS Soph. Iowa doesn't start younger players often.

Difference is the Tunsil video dropped day of the draft and the Collins news dropped just days before the draft.

And one is smoking a bong, which is something 75% of college kids do at some point. The other is a much more serious and legal matter that ended with a fatality. So even with the bong video dropping on draft day, it pales in comparison in seriousness to what Carter is allegedly involved in.

This is where the testing will mater. Does it expose a deficiency?

He’s going to test out of this world by all expectations.

My hesitancy is on skill and reps and coaching: he’s really, really raw. There isn’t a ton of tape on him. So you’re really banking on a coach taking his athleticism and making it functional, because right now he can bull rush and that’s basically it.

They had their chances to play him at guard this past season when they had injuries and opted not to. Maybe it's because he's a rookie, but I'm thinking Stout either doesn't like him at guard or wants him purely focused on center and doesn't wanna mess him up changing positions, since he's going to be a huge part of the future when Kelce retires. If Seumalo leaves, I think the Eagles draft a replacement early.

Look at who they played for those snaps … Dillard.  I’d have chosen him as well.  Experience and even greater size.

Confirmed.  Luk Ness Monster

Is BG another possible comparison?

Saw someone on the Eagles subreddit make a thread with the proposal of sending Quez and a 4th or 5th for Hopkins.  I'm sure the Cardinals would be jumping all over that offer.

If you trade for Hopkins you get his contract. Not good financially I would imagine.

BG is a shorter, squatty guy.  I think Kancy is more BG than anyone else in the draft.

Kancey gives a team the outside/inside versatility that Graham could.

I'd run to the podium if he's there RD2, but someone will snag him before that.

He was also trade FROM the Texans for a 2nd and a dead David Johnson a couple years ago without the new injuries. Also almost $60m over 2 years against the cap is yikes.

As long as we don’t blow our load going undefeated in joint practices like 2021, I’m good.

Each year it's a different team.  Going to have a lot of new pieces on defense, potentially young pieces all playing a new scheme, even if it's similar.  I always want a team to practice as much as possible.  However, the Eagles approach is working for them.

I'm going to complian more about access and media coverage than the practice itself.

A player to watch  next year is Iowa safety Cooper DeJean.  Legitimate playmaker at safety.

I’m not even caught up on who is good this draft

I am the contrarian there i just dont want any part of a midget DT

Legal tampering starts in less than 2 weeks on the 13th.

If Eagles are going to place the franchise tag on CJGJ or Hargrave or someone else then they need to by the 7th, but as pointed out earlier they would need to make some moves to free up cap space.

Kind of surprised that we've had nothing at all as far as new deals on any of our own players thus far.  Maybe too focused on the coaching search or who knows.  But I gotta imagine that we are going to get some sort of roster movement in the next two weeks in the leadup to free agency.  Maybe Howie is kicking the tires at the combine trying to find someone interested in tossing a 6th or 5th our way for Quez.
