We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

I don't think he makes it to 10, not after today.
I am back and forth on how many QB's go top 9 but I'm leaning towards 4 right now.
QB's - 4

DL - 2 (leaving Carter out)

OL - 1 (either Skoronski or Johnson)

I would hate it if Gonzalez and Witherspoon go top 9 but it's very possible. Would be great if 2 OT's go, that pushes one CB to us. Then we have a big decision to make, take the remaining corner or trade back which is also something we really need with our mid rounds being a barren wasteland. Decisions, decisions.
The other thing that could be very beneficial is if the 4th QB makes it to 10, putting us in a very good spot to trade back.

Stock up:

Maryland · CB

It was expected that the ever-athletic Banks would put on a show at the combine, and he did not disappoint. His 4.35-second 40-yard dash, 42-inch vertical and 11-foot-4 broad were impressive, with him checking in at 197 pounds. The former Terp handled the transition drills adeptly despite his thick build and he caught nearly everything thrown his way, including high-pointing passes downfield when given the chance. Banks' length is not elite -- 31 3/8-inch arms and 77 1/8-inch wingspan -- but he projects as a top 50 pick.

Oregon · CB

Measuring 6-1 3/8, 197 pounds, Gonzalez confirmed his plus athleticism with a 4.38 40, a 41 1/2-inch vertical and 11-foot-1 broad jump. His length is average (32-inch arms), but his smooth movement during position drills separated him from the pack. Gonzalez snatched passes from the air, backpedaled efficiently and went through every drill without an issue. Aside from one stumble in transition and one early drop, everything just seemed easy for one of the top cornerbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Stock down:

Georgia · CB

Ringo's size and physicality are his calling cards, as his 6-foot-1 3/4-inch, 207-pound frame would indicate. But his arm (31 1/4 inches) and hand measurements (8 1/2) were not ideal for a corner who will need to be able to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage. Ringo's explosiveness did not appear in the jumps (33 1/2-inch vertical, 10-foot-2 broad), but he did post a good 40 time (4.36 seconds). His work in drills on the field was adequate. He showed ball skills and moved downhill quickly at times, but his fluidity was unexceptional when dropping into space.

Illinois · CB

NFL coaches should love Witherspoon's competitiveness and quick feet. He's a first-round talent. However, his combine measurements (5-foot-11 1/2, 181 pounds, 31 1/4-inch arms, 73 5/8-inch wingspan) did not scream top-10 pick. A hamstring issue prevented him from working out in Indianapolis, where he would have put his short-area quickness and ball skills on display. I think he’ll need an elite pro day performance if he’s going to be picked inside the top 10, like Denzel Ward, instead of in the middle of Round 1, like Trent McDuffie, who went 21st to the Chiefs last year.

Without putting all high end FA and Draft guys who do you realistically replace these 5 with at a lower cost?

Edwards
Chauncey
Seumalo
Bradberry
Hargrave

Dean

Don’t know

Jurgens or a drafted player or Driscoll or Toth

McPhearson or Jobe or a one year rental FA or a drafted player (Witherspoon or Gonzalez)

Williams

As for the discussion of can/will we be able to keep everyone- I think we all know Howie can do what he wants. The question is- does he want to? Take a look at our free agents, and our alternatives. In some cases, maybe theres an upgrade. In many cases, theres a player on the same level, and maybe a lot of cases where you can get a similar player, cheaper, and even younger.

Which free agent do you prefer? Our own, or one of the alternatives?

I see tons of opportunity for Howie to keep our own guys at a value, or even improve, and for potentially less money.

Take a look at this list and see what looks like your ideal balance between economical and maintaining a level of talent capable of contending for a super bowl.

Backup QB- Minshew OR Mariota, Brissett, Heinicke, Sudfeld, Cooper Rush, Stidham...

RB- Sanders OR Hunt, Penny, Jamaal Williams, Jacobs, Mostert, Foreman, D'Ernest Johnson, Darrel Williams, Breida, Jeff Wilson, Damien Harris, Alexander Mattison, Myles Gaskin (I didnt even include guys I expect to stay with their team like Barkley and Pollard)

WR- Paschal OR Robert Woods, Nelson Agholor, DJ Chark, Allen Lazard, Landry, N'Keal Harry, Mack Hollins, Mecole Hardman, Parris Cambell, Deandre Carter

OG- Seumalo OR replace withour own Jergens, OR Nate Herbig, Cody Ford, Will Hernandez, Nate Davis- there may be other good options. I really dont follow OL closely around the league.

DE- Brandon Graham, and Robert Quinn OR Ngakoue, Marcus Davenport, Dante Fowler Jr., Trey Flowers, Dre'Mont Jones, Oshane Ximines

DT- Hargrave, Cox, Suh, Joseph  OR well, its not a good year to look here in free agency.

LB- Edwards, White OR Bobby Wagner, Tremaine Edwards, Elandon Roberts, Germaine Pratt, Cody Barton, Okereke, Drue Tranquill, David Long, Kaden Ellis

CB- Bradberry OR Cameron Sutton, Patrick Peterson (guess I have to list him after today's rumor), Bryce Callahan, Jamel Dean,  (Its not a great free agent class).

S- Gardner-Johnson, Maddox OR Bates, Amos, Vonn Bell, Keanu Neal, Nasir Adderley, Taylor Rapp, Juan Thornhill, Mike Edwards, Julian Love, Donovan Wilson, Nick Scott (There is a TON of opportunity here. I am not concerned if we lose Gardner-Johnson).

What I see is Safety and LB have tons of opportunity to move on. Get younger, cheaper, and pretty much just as effective.

DE has opportunity to get younger. Even if you just get 1 guy for what you would hypothetically spend on Graham + Quinn.

RB has tons of opportunity.

WR has tons of opportunity- not just to replace Paschal as WR 4, but to even potentially improve on Watkins sliding him to WR4.

Backup QB has some opportunity.

CB, and DT, and to a lesser extent, DE are important to hit on in the draft, AND/or maintain some of our own talent.

My plan

QB- Im ok with pretty much any one of those options listed above including Minshew. Whoever is cheapest.

RB- I think we can keep Sanders at a reasonable cost. But I think we can go cheaper and draft one. Williams and Foreman stand out the most for me, looking for a strong runner. But I like everyone on that list. Considering Scott is also a free agent- maybe we pick 2 of those guys for less than it would cost to keep Sanders. Replacing Scott with Gaskin might be nice. Moving on from Sanders with 1-2 of these guys and a draft pick.

WR- Hollins would be the deep threat we hoped Quez could be. Hollins has developed. Can also contribute on STs and really boost our sucky coverage teams. Chark would be a home run deep threat and a guy who can adjust well to deep balls that Hurts a little too comfortable throwing in to double coverage. Hardman, Campbell, and Carter can all contribute and potentially improve the returner position. Moving on from Paschal, and demoting Quez.

OG- Jergens

DE- Keeping Graham on a team friendly deal that is just high enough to convince him. Fowler seems to be a reasonable alternative if it cant be worked out. Mid-priced semi-productive player.

DT- Milton Williams, Jordan Davis, and draft... Maybe see if Suh or Joseph will stick around as depth.

LB- Dean stepping up. Moving on from Edwards and White. Would take any of the options listed above. Whoever is cheapest. None of those guys would have any trouble replacing the production of the guy they are replacing.

CB- Keep Bradberry. And still draft in round 1.

S- Tempted to call G-J's bluff and say we will pivot to Bates. Even if we dont get either big ticket guy,  I wouldnt have any problem at all with a Rapp/Love duo back there. Or almost any combination of the above listed names. Plus, Im fully comfortable with Ed Reed Blankenship at this point as well. Safety will look good with or without Gardner-Johnson here.

Only rumor I see about Patrick Peterson is he would like to finish his career with the Vikes and there's mutual interest there.

earlier it was said we could have interest. connection with coaching staff. Would be a late summer type signin if it happened. Think it may have been from HonestNFL

Not a bad patch job option.

How has Nasir Adderely been as a pro? I’m guessing underwhelming. I remember being very in on him leading up to the draft.

Sportrac shows their stats from this past season right next to the list of names.

He's not the most attractive name in the list.

But wouldn't be mad if he replaced Epps.

After Bates, the best/most productive safeties are Love and Donovan Wilson. Love made more plays in the passing game. Wilson must have blitzed a bunch and has a bunch of QB Hits and sacks.

Rapp is an under the radar solid young option.

I live just outside of dc in VA and yeah it’s been a little nuts.

With Sweat and Reddick does it make sense to go more power rusher/run stopper (Murphy/Van Ness) vs someone like Nolan Smith?

Thank goodness he wasn't shot

This isn’t about the combine. Watch him play. He’s like glue on WRs. Plays NFL style coverage where he isn’t just man handling WRs which would draw PI.

The combine is just cementing that what he’s shown in college can translate athletically to the NFL.

I agree.  To date he has flown under the radar because of the low profile of his school.

I love Brandon but i wouldn’t be entirely shocked if he leaves for a couple reasons. 1. I don’t think the eagles want to pay him the type of money a team like cleveland would just for his leadership and secondly his ability. 2. I think howie might have learned from the last Super Bowl run that sometimes you can’t keep everyone and can’t be nostalgic with guys even if they helped you in he past achieve greatness. 3. I think graham realizes this is likely his last contract he gets so i see him going for the money unless it’s really close in terms of money.

Saw this on BR

The Bleacher Report Scouting Department also labeled Ringo as the draft's best zone-coverage cornerback, and for zone-heavy defenses—like that of the Philadelphia Eagles—Ringo could enter the first-round conversation.

That’s weird considering how many say he’s a press man only.

Let me say imo I don’t think it’s very likely the Eagles take a tight end early in this draft. I know there’s some guys who’d might available at the end of the first but i don’t see the eagles going down that road especially cause of how many other positions they need to fill and cap space is going to be limited with hurts extension.

I know Berman and wulf talked about it on their podcast earlier in the week. I find it harder to believe with the amount of holes they go tight end early in the draft

Need to get someone who can provide an interior pass rush. With a DT or DE who can move inside on 3rd down.

I think he’ll have problems in press man. He obviously has the strength, length and recovery speed to Jane the receiver, but his transition turning is bad, and that’s where WRs create separation.

I think the people looking at Ringo for safety might be on to something. He would be extremely versatile in that role.

I wouldn’t forget about Milton Williams i tend to think he plays a bigger role next year. He’s the type of guy i think the envisioned being able to play both DE and DT and move him around. I thought he played good down the stretch until the playoffs. Wish he showed more in the playoffs.

Yay I got an A, this is probably exactly how it will go
