The RB youd draft in round 1 would have to be elite or else youre not considering it in round 1.

Is Gibbs elite? He’s being talked about in round 1.

1) Second contract is irrelevant. It’s a different opportunity cost.

2) Who says we have no intention of re-signing a RB? We paid both Westbrook and McCoy. If they’re special players, we will pay them.

The second contact absolutely is relevant. When you draft a player in round 1, it’s not just about that 5-year deal. It’s the five years + early negotiating for an extension. We all know it’s a replaceable position. How many teams are happy with the value they get on a second contract from an RB?

I think this RB class is so stacked you don't even need to think about it until round 3+. While Robinson or Gibbs would be great to have, the Eagles have far more pressing needs on the defensive side of the ball. The OL is elite and you could stick just about anyone back there to get yards. There will be plenty of good backs to choose from in round 3.

So he wouldn’t count towards the comp pick formula, right?

Correct.

I think this question was asked with slightly different wording about a week ago and I came up with Shaun Alexander, LaDanian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson since the year 2000.  Either way, it's a mighty short list.

Lol

Lucky for us that he went to the Rams instead of here.

Look at the past 1st round RBs that were taken top 15:

Zeke - 6 years before he broke down

Fournette - 5 years before breaking down

McCaffrey - 6 years and was hampered by injuries for 2 of those years.

Barkely - 5 years and has also been hampered with injuries multiple years, missing basically an entire year.

Gurley - got 4 years before he started to break down.

Gordon - 8 years and still going.

If you spend a top pick on a RB they better be a workhorse, and if they are a workhorse you are most likely only getting 6 productive years out of them.

Feels like this is a mistake.  Getting Desai and keeping Wilson was like having your cake and eating it too.

From what I've seen I would love to have Gibbs.

I guess the way I look at it is the more weapons for Jalen the better but also defense needs some great players also.

Arguably CMC could be included but he hardly seems worth more than some of the other backs in that class.  You can probably come up with a longer list from backs picked in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Combine just confirms , real average draft

Who are the best pass protecting RB's in the draft?  Also if you draft Darnell Washington it's like having an extra OT out there...

From a team building perspective, drafting a RB in round 1 hampers the team.  I mean Zeke's 2nd contract kept Dallas from keeping talent on that team.

I wouldn't include him.  I've always seen CMC as a volume producer more than a dynamic player.  CAR force-fed him the ball to the detriment of their overall offense, and he lost much of his effectiveness for two seasons when his body wore down.  I think he was traded away as soon as his second contract kicked in.

Travis is such a dbag

Yeah - my wife was watching this on her phone last night and said " did you see this?"  My response was the same - "No, Travis Kelce is a D-bag"

But we dont really throw to the rb anymore

They tried throwing it to Gainwell but Sanders was not used at all except as an outlet.  Maybe using Gainwell on 1st and 2nd downs will result in more RB throws.

Maybe Sirianni wasn't happy with how the DBs played in the Super Bowl.

Maybe Desai has his own guys in mind to fill his defensive staff.

They force fed him the ball because he was the only player the QB could consistently throw to in the passing game.  They also had a terrible o-line for most of his time in Carolina.  If CMC were on the Eagles, he would have been more productive.  I think we will see him be a difference maker with the 9ers next season.  Staying healthy is the big question mark.

Eagles wouldn't hire Matt Patricia with Darius Slay still here would they?

If they do bring in Patricia maybe that means Slay is out? Kind of a weird situation.

If he's hired as a LB coach I doubt they would have much interaction.

The Eagles are losing 2 RBs probably, right?  Sanders and Scott.

The Eagles could take 2 new RBs in the draft.  Maybe a big one and a small one.

For the big one,  I like Roschon Johnson the most.  Very Hurts like.  Height, weight, speed, high school running QB - both the same.

Achane is a good choice for the small one.  They changed his 40 time to 4.32.  with a 10 split of 1.51.  In college he returned 2 kicks for TDs.  Watching the youtubes, you can see him running by dbs.   That 4.32 does show up.  Very fast RB,  the fastest player on offense, can return kicks for TDs.  In theory, the great speed could also be used in a slot role.  There's also another option for the small role, Keaton Mitchell, East Carolina.  He ran 4.37.  Mitchell has better jumps, Achane is faster.

RAS - Achane v Mitchell

I'm not comfortable going into the season with two rooks. We don't have a plethora of picks this year either. There's a decent amount of free agents, we need to grab one.
