I'm curious how different it will be with Kelce and Lane gone

Dickerson and Mailata seem to be well-suited to continue to lead the o-line. It will be the end of an era.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

From a cap perspective, not only do they want to pay Hurts soon, but they also need to get from the under the dead cap hell they've been in since before Wentz flounced off.  They can either perpetuate the cycle, or use this year as quiet redo in order to push the franchise on again. As such, transition to a new Eagles era

Kinda creates a weird situation for Kelce then if he want's to keep playing. Not that it should all revolve around him, but why would he want to come back if this is a take a step back year?

The whole identity of the offense will be affected.  Kelce is a future HOF center, and Lane Johnson is an All-Pro RT.  With Seumalo gone that's the entire right side of the OL that will look completely different.  We will see how Jurgens does at center, but the starting RG and RT in 2025 might not be on the roster right now.

I think there's no way to sign Hargrave at $20m.  He's a risk to sign at that price because of his age.  I think Davis played better than people give him credit for on here as did Williams.  I think they will add a DT in the draft in an early round but not re-sign Hargrave.

He's had nagging injuries 2 out of 3 years here. Wild to even consider paying him that much

My guess the internal view of whether they will take a step back is different than what we might think.  If Kelce stays, I don't see why we would expect the offense to take a step back.  The defense is the question mark but if Graham and Cox return, it's not like the players may look at the team being any worse just because Bradberry, CJGJ and Hargrave are gone.

Does Jurgens become the new C? Asking because we also drafted Dickerson as the replacement

Depends on how they replace them. And how long Stoutland sticks around. I’d bet they like Jurgens so far based on the fact they found ways to get him on the field a couple times for seemingly no reason. But even still it’s hard to replace the two best players at their positions in the league. You gotta be really good and really lucky. We’re not good, particularly at drafting in general, but have been pretty good trusting Stout and drafting OL. We seem to be good at developing. But to expect to replace HOF players at two positions on the OL, which isn’t developed the same in college these days.. it’s gonna hurt at some point.

They might not view it as a reset year but I have a hard time believing if an AP-2 CB, a guy who had 11 sacks at DT, and a S who tied the league for INT's walk and are replaced by draft picks or bargain bin players they don't think they are any worse.

This doesn't really change anything.

He's a 29 year old RB coming off of nearly 350 carries.  It's unlikely he's going to be as productive next season.

True but he had around 1500yds last season. Curious how long he'll last. He's been fun to watch

....better a year early than a year late (?) .....

If Stetson Bennett wasn’t 25 , he would be getting more hype , little taller than expected… and he had a nice combine during drills

So based on his confusing way of putting this out there, the Eagles are $10 million over the cap?

Milton Williams is more explosive, more athletic than Hargrave and was really just starting to figure it out in year 2.  He was drafted in the same round too.

Davis was a very high first round pick.

With the enormous number of free agents we have, if that's not enough at DT and we need to pay Hargrave 20m...then what are draft picks actually for?

We can't have 80% of our defensive spending at DT.

Hargrave would be the vet among the young DTs.  Williams and Davis will have their PTs and snap counts.  Tui is also coming back from injury.  You need an experienced player in there to steady the group.  Cox can move on and not sucking up a bunch of cap space.

Depends on this year. The rumblings are that Jurgens could replace Isaac at RG this year, if he plays well it could be another Dickerson/Lane situation where they no longer want to move him.

Lane was supposed to be the LT of the future, Dickerson was suppose to be the C of the future. I can see Jurgens taking a similar path and solidifying his role at RG.

That's the bind they got themselves into.  The void years for one last go have left somewhat of a legacy, but a declining one.

As for what Kelce does, I guess they presumed he was gong to retire now and the issue would be a moot one. Or took a calculated risk that the likes of Davis, Dean, etc would fill some of the gap in when Cox and others go, so if they get one more year with that O, it could be enough.

No. Eagles have roughly $229M in cap liabilities and were already over just the base salary cap. So they still are roughly $5-$6M under.

Adjusted cap space is the ceiling. Both websites have an estimate already in place for this, so if something changes its usually minimal.

Didn’t the Eagles and Kelce specifically that Kelce helped choose his successor at C when they drafted Jergens?

Jurgens definitely becomes the new center IMO. The alternative is to put him at RG and draft yet another center. He was targeted because he has similar movement skills as Kelce.

Yup.  I guess they mutually thought Kelce wasn't coming back, or at worse, would let Jurgens play RG for a year and learn more under Kelce.

To be honest, I like that they are going through major changes.

There is a reason there is a SB loser curse.  They weren't good enough, have lots of players coming off big years, and overextend themselves trying to maintain a model that still wasn't SB worthy.

I'm not worried about fatigue or hunger from Hurts, the WRs, and the OL.  And since most of the rest of the team and staff is going to be new, we can forget about that hangover and curse.

Good post.

Hargrave at 20M/Y, when he's 30 years old, is the move bad teams do OR good teams with QBs on rookie deals do. We're in neither spot, so it's an easy decision to pass.

When the Bears overpay for him, you'll feel better.
