There really appear to be no free agent DTs. So if you arent signing Hargrave, you better be sure you are getting a good one through the draft.

And hopefully, at some point later in free agency, they can get one of Cox, Suh, or Joseph back cheap for another year for depth.

There are going to be veterans cut.  Just look at some of the veteran cuts that will be happening.  John Johnson and Erik Kendricks are 2 guys who could be bargains and won't count against the comp pick formula for 2024.  I highly expect some decent DT to be available.

Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, Marlon Tuipulotu, Noah Ellis, Marvin Wilson are all on the roster.  They have 5 draft picks invested in Davis and Williams.  They need to be your starters in year 2 and 3.  If not, why are they wasting valuable draft picks on them?  We also can't underestimate addition by internal postion promotions.  Tuipulotu was improving before he got injured.  Ellis is a BIG body who they liked and Wilson was the 54th or 55th player last year.

Then you look at veterans during the season.  Going in to the year no one would have seen Suh and Joseph on this team.

There's also pick 30 and the Saints 2nd next year.  I still think one of those could go towards a young veteran trade.  You know Howie is going to make moves no one thought of.

That's my point - QB is still very much in play for them at 5.  Or, conversely, them extending Geno could make them that much more attractive of a trading spot for someone wanting to move up.  #5 is most likely going to be a QB at this point whether it's Seattle taking them or someone else.

No, your point was it makes them more likely to trade down which I disagree with.  They will have a chance at 5 to get an elite blue chip defensive player.  They are already fully loaded with a ton of high draft picks in this draft form the Russell Wilson trade.  If they don't take a QB at 5 I see no reason for them trading back.

Doesn't change anything.  Makes them an even more likely trade-down candidate for another team that wants a QB.

Yea, the commitment to Geno Smith, IMO takes QB off the table.  He's a late bloomer but also just 32.  Can he produce for another 4-5 years or was this a flash in the pan for him?  I think they take that risk for this year.  If Smith falters, then next year they could go all in for Caleb Williams.  You know Pete Carroll has his eyes on him.

I also agree that if Anderson is there, no way they pass on him.  With that being said, if Anderson is there, I'm guessing QB went 1-4.

I wouldn't want anything to do with Henry unless they take a 6th or less. He's going to be 29/30 this upcoming season and has combined touches of:

2022: 382

2021: 237 (in 8 games)

2020: 397

2019: 321

Hard, hard pass to give up anything of value for a guy with that much wear.

My only idea is an expiring like Slay for an expiring like Henry. You arent going to extend either of them. Technically. Unless you extend Henry to make the salary fit and push some money to void years.

The 5M created in the Slay deal can mostly cover Henry's cost for the year, and it doesnt cost you draft picks.

You get Witherspoon or Gonzalez in round 1 and youre younger at CB, and got the perfect RB behind this OL for 1 year.

Except why would the Titans take slay?

They're cleaning house, I can't see them wanting an older expensive corner.

Not sure on the Titans specifically, but I suspect Slay still has plenty of value around the league.

Look at how long Patrick Peterson is hanging on. Slay is years younger and just off a pro-bowl season. Not as though hes done.

To get a player like him for an aging RB who has no value to you anymore is a solid win.

They're the same age, Copernicus.

Henry’s base is $10.5M with another $500,000 for rushing for 1,300 yards. So trading Slay for him would result in a net-negative of about $5M+ in cap space. Seems like a bad idea.

I thought there was like a 2 year difference. Oh well. Anyway, Slay is better.

The base can easily be adjusted with a sham extension with a void year or 2 cant it?

What I was implying was cutting Henry's salary down to about 5 million, and making the rest of it bonuses to be spread over the next 2 years or so.

Sham extension or not, you’re using $10.5M in cap space spread over X years while creating a huge hole at CB. Is that worth it for a 29 year old RB?

thats a small bonus to spread over a few years. thats negligible. It costs you no draft picks. Just trading 2 guys near the edge of their respective cliffs. Pretty clear we will be drafting a CB early this year regardless.

Right, but that rookie corner replaces Bradberry.

Hargrave is as good as gone. Seems like Gardner-Johnson is too and there are good and likely cheaper options to replace him in free agency. In this scenario, it makes sense to make Bradberry our 1 guy that we keep out of that big 3. Rookie corner replaces slay.

Id like to  hear your ranking and thoughts on each of Gonzalez, Witherspoon, Porter, and Banks

I honestly haven't watched much of any of them.  Unfortunately working at a D1 school, I'm stuck working most Saturdays because the Air Forces doesn't do enough Mountain West Friday or random other day games.

Which is still true.  If they're not in love with a QB and the board doesn't break their way, they've got a lot more reason to trade back now.

Still hoping we tag CGJ

It's slays contract I think they'd be more reluctant to take on.

They're cutting guys left and right to get younger and more cap flexible, just seems taking an older expensive guy would be contradictory to what they're currently doing.

I'd be fine with trading slay, he's in the down turn of his career and is pretty expensive.

If one could trade slay for Henry I'd be fine with it but I don't think the Titans take that.

Well good news...I won't work maybe more than 1 game next year.  Partially because there's a stadium renovation here...and I'M RETIRING FINALLY!!!

wow! good for you. Congratulations on an amazing career. We could never thank you enough for what you've done. I hope you enjoy your retirement. And possibly get back to posting more.

I like Henry, but given his contract, it only makes sense to sign him if he's cut or if he restructures with the Titans before we trade for him. We're not paying a RB that much money

I feel like a kid sticking his fingers in his ears and making noises over y’all. CJGJ isn’t walking. If we only bring back one guy, it’s him. Bradberry is getting older and was a benefactor of pass rush. TJ Edwards was solid, nothing more. See ya. Same with Miles. I think Graham comes back on a team friendly 2 year deal with an out after this year. Seumalo will walk too. Hargrave walks unless Howie makes a multi year mistake.

TL;DR CJGJ, Graham will be back. We draft CB, IDL, IOL in first 2 days of draft. Maybe DE to groom.
