Is he going to be the top paid safety or one of the top paid safeties?

Are we thinking Minkah Fitzpatrick territory?  He's the 2nd highest paid safety.  Cap guys, are there ways to get year 2 lower and then year 3 is when you look to restructure again?

Minkah Fitzpatrick signed a four year, $72.98 million contract extension with $36 million in guarantees with a $17.5 million signing bonus.

So two things that hit me in watching this in real time during the Super Bowl.....1. He should have absolutely caught this 2. There should have been a penalty

So f'ing frustrating how many things went wrong Hurts fumble, the field, Bradberry Penalty, Siranni not going for it of 4th and 3, Gannon's puss play calls....and it was all still right there for them.  This is right there with the NFCCG vs. Tampa at the Vet as biggest letdowns ever!  I am still bitter about both!

Yep. There were so many things that went wrong and we still only lost by 3. On another day we win that game fairly easily.

Instead we're left counting what might have been and getting ready for a rebuild (which i guess would have happened anyway)

There are always ways to kick the can and delay a massive cap figure as long as you have an owner willing to spend the cash up front.

The problem is the check will have to get paid at some point, and that’s how you get bloated cap figures like Slay’s this year or deadcap hits like Brooks and even Graham.

Does CJGJ play an important enough position for us to play that game 2-3 years from now. Is he the type of personality we want to deal with down the line?

I tend to think he’s overrated by many based on some nice interceptions that were caused by others. The upside is tantalizing due to his versatility and surehandedness. But he has flaws at safety that may or may not improve with experience— namely tackling and angles as a deep safety.

If we sign him to a deal that’s lower than expected, I’d be thrilled. If we signed him at or near the top of the market, I’d be nervous.

I don’t think Howie thought he had a Super Bowl caliber team until the midpoint of the season, well after CJ was brought in.

Why not? They were coming off a playoff showing the year before and at that point it was noticeable that Hurts significantly improved.

Yeah Hurts doesn't deserve to get paid.

Right why shouldn’t Hurts get paid "his” money? 4 tds in a Super Bowl year 2? 🤣🤣

Nobody had a problem with Allen getting "his” money. This team friendly ish is a myth. Same with 23 he deserves his money.

All true but then the question is who are you putting on the field on defense next year? I don't say that in an all is lost way. But ultimately the plan can't be to the let every D starter walk and hope for the best. So if not CJGJ then what is the plan?

The only reason not to is playing the QB rookie contract strategy like they do with RB’s, could work who knows ?

No idea. My guess is we use any savings from a big ticket item to thrift shop in wave 2/3 of FA. Who those players are, I have no clue. I also assume Howie will end up trading a 2024 pick or two after the draft for a player on a rookie contract., like he did CJGJ.

Yeah makes sense.  They should try moving on from Hurts and draft a QB.  He's only by far the best QB in the conference and only 24 years.  Having the best player in the conference at the most important position in the league is so meaningless when you have to pay him "his" money.

The Eagles traded a 5th in 2023 for CGCJ. We got a year of very good production from him. If he walks, we'll get a 4th, or hopefully, a 3. We will get more out of CGCJ than the Saints did.

That's what good teams do!

We treated him well, so when he goes to a new team he'll talk about how much better Philly was than NO. That impacts free agency, or players wanting to be traded here.

If we can get him on a good deal, obviously keep him. I would prefer resigning him. But paying him 15M/Y is crazy. He's good, but not THAT good.

It’s a Colin Kaepernick "thing.”

Laughable.

Hes an injury prone running QB who is his own agent and has no idea what hes doing and doesn't understand his value in the NFL.  Hed be lucky to get the deal he rejected now.  Yes I know his mom is technically his agent which is even more embarrassing for him.

The Draft Network’s latest mock is pretty damn good.

R1 P10 - Devon Witherspoon, CB

R1 P31 - Calijah Kancey, DL

R2 P63 - Zach Charbonnet, RB

I wouldn’t be upset with that at all.

I think people underplay how good he is, especially when you factor in how he can play safety or nickel if need be like he had to last year.  He was very Jenkins like in that regard.  Plus he's young.  Exactly the type of player you invest in where the course of his contract would be his prime.

Interesting question. Many of you hate McLane, but I think it’s clear he is great sources. He kills it with these types of stories.

I'd bring in Kendricks for the right price.

My question would be.  How much of an ahole was Jason Babin?

I agree that paying him $15/year is crazy, but on the flipside, he's a very very good player at a position the Eagles have continually failed to address.  It's been band-aid after band-aid for years.  They FINALLY have a young player they could lock up.

There are some young FA possibilities to replace him but I think the frustrating thought that a few have brought up is if they let him walk but give inflated contracts to Epps and Edwards.

How Babin could be such a d-bag?  Did aynone like him?

One thing about re-signing CJG is that we already essentially have him on the roster in Maddox. When we traded for CJG, he was a slot corner who wanted to move to safety in order to increase his value. So we could pay him $15 million or more a season, or we could just move Maddox to safety (we know he can play there) and we will likely get the exact same production for a fraction of the cost.

Draft a corner at 10 to replace Bradberry, sign a slot corner for $7 million a year and hope Blankenship can step into a starter role. That secondary might not be as good as this year's, but there is a pretty good chance it won't be appreciably worse. And you are spending $7 million and a draft pick to replace around $42 million in talent that is leaving the building (Epps, $7 million, Bradberry and CJG $17 million each), which is a gamble worth taking.

Give me someone, anyone with upside. This list makes me wanna throw up.

We need both cheap options that can play immediately, and cheap options that can be part of a long term core.

Because he's a snake.

The honest answer to his question is the ESP/Chip Kelly relationship, after Kelly told ESP to write about DSJ's "gang ties" in order to find a reason to release him.

If the Eagles had beaten the Saints in 2018 playoffs as they should have (thanks, Alshon) then beaten the Rams the following week (they had the Rams number at that time) .... would they have traded Wentz and kept Foles as starter?

Now this is what I call a prospect…straight out of Braveheart…😅
