When the Eagles lose some of these guys like Hargrave, CGJ, Bradberry, etc, expect some of them to take shots at the Eagles for not paying them.  It's because deep down they wanted to stay here and they're upset they can't.

Although I don't think Bradberry will say anything.  He seems like a professional classy dude.

Tbh i don’t think hargrave will either. Eagles gave him a nice contract the last time he was a FA based off their projections. He played fantastically for the eagles and it’s going to make him bank. I am not sure he could be mad at the eagles for really helping his career go to another level and make the money he’s about to make.

i can see CJGJ popping off but that’s what he’s been throughout his nfl career. He likely loves the fans and appreciates how they adore him. So i can see him being upset.

Tbh it’s the one of the few times the eagles really don’t have the flexibility and ability to just pay everyone they value and likely covet. Especially with hurts extension coming. They likely have the ability to sign one big guy where they set the contract up right. I’m guessing the eagles don’t value the safety position as much to choose that position. I’m thinking if they do it’s likely DT/pass rusher.

yeah the eagles did him a favor , traded for him , he played in the big game , put him behind a great defensive front . he got stats and looked the part and now he'll get paid by some team that will have less talent in front of him. we'll see how it goes and howie will get his high comp pick for the team

Letting Hargrave/Bradberry walk does not mean punting on 2023.

I’m guessing a team like the Texans will overpay him in the 14-15 mil range cause demeco will like his attitude and they need talent plus a boatload of cap space.

i do think the eagles will make a move at safety. I doubt it’s gonna be Epps and Blankenship starting next year. I’d be a little surprised. Tbh there was a lot of people who weren’t thrilled at the time when we signed Malcolm jenkins and he turned out to be a great signing. I’m guessing the eagles likely identified someone in FA that they like and think has upside to be a high quality starter if it’s true CJGJ is gone.

heck no, trust replace them with bargins in fa like what the pats do.

Letting them go would be a catastrophic mistake. And if it happens it’ll look even worse when they pay their replacements close to as much money(but not quite) to get significantly lesser players.

I mentioned this last night there was always going to be a regression on defense in 2023. Simply for the fact they didn’t have the money to pay all these guys who were free agents. You were going to take a step back on defense with. Plus you weren’t gonna have 70 sacks two years in a row even if you brought everybody back.

I think the Eagles believe their offense is going to get better in 2023 to account for the defensive regression. the Eagles still believe they could be a title contender next year even with a lesser defense cause the offense will be take another step. But I ultimately think their long term goal is for the 2024 off-season to get some of these young kids significant snaps so they can be seasoned and have enough cap flexibility where they can add maybe 2-3 pieces to the defense to get themselves back to a level that they were on defensively in 2022.

How many teams have gotten burned by letting 30 year old DTs and 30 year old CBs walk?

I don’t care about bringing those two back. Would be nice if Jordan Davis wasn’t on the bust radar. Only guy I wanted back was CJGJ.

Kansas City has been to 5 straight conference championship games and won two Super Bowls in the past 5 years.  They've been a blueprint for consistently contending.

Their offensive ranks in those years were 1st, 5th, 6th, 4th, and 1st

Their defensive ranks were 24th, 7th, 10th, 8th, 16th

You can get it done with a top-tier offense and decent defense.

How is Davis on the bust radar after 1 season? The other lineman talk really highly of him.

so who we signing to take over for Chauncey?  Adderley is a UFA, from Philly, and went to Delaware....  Maybe he wants to come home like Reddick

I think letting Hargrave and Bradberry go is not as big of a letdown for people. They are both 30 and likely only have two or three really good years left. I think in free agency somebody is going to overpay them for those two or three years.  in free agency who you want to identify  younger players that still have upside to grow and if you put them in your system they will flourish. The Eagles did  exactly that with Hargrave. Three years ago when they signed him, he wasn’t some well-known star commodity. He was thought well of but they identified him as a player that would fit their team and would maximize him. Turns out they hit it out of the park. It’s why i like some guys like Zach Allen. He makes a lot of sense to me for the eagles. I think he could be their hargrave type of addition 3 years ago

And losing Chauncey Gardner Johnson is the one that’s going to sting because he still young and he probably still has upside. However, I remember back in 2014 where everybody wanted Byrd the safety from Buffalo and the Eagles decided to go in another direction and get Malcolm Jenkins. Malcolm Jenkins wound up being the better player even though byrd was considered the best safety in free agency. Have to be able to identify players, how they’ll fit into your scheme and if you can get them to reach their maximum potentially.

I’m with sheil on this, i think John Johnson once released from the browns makes sense. Doesn’t effect your comp picks, familiar with the system/scheme, has good intangibles and before he went to Cleveland he was one of the best young safeties in the league and the eagles had legitimate interest in him then.

Given our cap it makes sense to let them walk.  Don't understand letting CJGJ walk tho

Mahomes is on a whole other level though and sets his own standard. I don’t think any QB besides him could carry a team with a subpar defense that far consistently.

Dallas is very close to the Eagles despite many Eagles fans not wanting to admit it. Even a slight dip will put the cowboys above the Eagles next season.

I think it’s as simple as he eagles love CJGJ but they don’t want to pay a safety 13-15 mil per year. I think they have a walk away number and a price they are willing to pay for the position.

Traded up for a part time, rotational DT who was too overweight to make an impact series over series. He had endurance issues and didn’t make a noticeable difference IMO. If he loses some weight I think he will do better.

Curious question about Jalen Hurts.  Last year, one of my biggest critiques was the lack of passing TDs.  He had 16 in 2021 and 22 in 2022 so there was a definite improvement.

At this point, do we care how he's getting his TDs?  Is it sustainable to expect him to have 10+ rushing TDs per year?  I think he's capable of throwing more and his numbers could also be a product of playcalling.

Should passing TDs have any efffect on how much he gets paid or would those just be a performance escalator?

A couple potential free agent targets Desai worked with.

Counter - the only time the Eagles have made deep playoff runs in this century have been when they had quality safety play.

The new New Heights came out today but nothing with Howie or Nick. I guess they recorded something for a later date during the off-season. No word on Kelce coming back either.
