Just a thought -- CJGJ may not get the contract he expects on the open market. The FA class of safeties is strong. Wonder if Howie is letting the market bring down CJGJ's number.

Too much pride for that i imagine

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

If the Eagles let all three of Bradberry, CJGJ, and Hargrave walk it will decimate the defense.  It's one thing to lose depth like Suh, Joseph, and even Cox with Davis and Williams waiting in the wings. It's one thing to replace one of the starting LB's with Dean. It's another thing to have to replace two starting members of the secondary when there are no young in house replacements who are even close to the level of Bradberry and CJGJ. We are starring down the barrel at a DT position that is young and uncertain and a starting secondary of Slay, Epps, Blankenship, and a rookie or McPherson at CB2. Not good.

Worst case they will do what they have done for the past several years at the other CB position and sign a vet to a one year deal or make a trade later on in the off-season for one.  I'm sure they will draft one at some point in the first 3 rounds but even then I think they will bring in a cheap vet at some point as well.

I think if you were really to do a tell-all, open the books investigation into the NFL, you'd find that they're one of the dirtiest organizations out there. One of the reasons why I think Goodell gets paid so handsomely is because he does a lot of dirty work for the owners. And there is an implicit leverage he has with the owners where he can basically say, "I do this for you all, so I want this salary and these benefits in return."

Most of these owners are slime-balls, but when you start treading with billionaires most of them are dirty and sly to a degree.

The truly cynical among us would point out that sports is entertainment, and there's nothing that says the fans are "owed" a completely random outcome based only on 100% impartiality at all times.

I'm inclined to believe the former NBA official who claimed to fix NBA playoff games, and I'm certainly of the opinion that the NHL fixed the 2008 and 2009 playoffs toward a predetermined result -- it's what made me quit watching the NHL with any passionate view.

the bears have alot of cap to burn and need defensive help on all levels. IMO they could sign cjgj and hargrave

Any interest in Juan Thornhill? I remember the Eagles being interested in him in the draft. Could see him being a Howie target.

What do you guys think of Joey Porter Jr out of Penn State?  The idea of a 6’3 CB is appealing, imo. In terms of skillset, any comparison to (maybe) a Bobby Taylor type of player?

Porter seems pretty aggressive, my concern would be that he attracts more than his share of yellow laundry. If he can tone that down a little he'd be a good pick IMO.

Keep CJGJ and Hargrave if they can work out the numbers.  Bradberry is clearly going after big pay day and good as gone.  The team may be able to afford signing Edwards and Epps.

Beyond that, Howie and the personnel team have to find some bargain FAs, draft good rookies, sign UDFAs and play the young players already on the roster (more by the coaches).

So two things that hit me in watching this in real time during the Super Bowl.....1. He should have absolutely caught this 2. There should have been a penalty

So f'ing frustrating how many things went wrong Hurts fumble, the field, Bradberry Penalty, Siranni not going for it of 4th and 3, Gannon's puss play calls....and it was all still right there for them.  This is right there with the NFCCG vs. Tampa at the Vet as biggest letdowns ever!  I am still bitter about both!

Yeah makes sense.  They should try moving on from Hurts and draft a QB.  He's only by far the best QB in the conference and only 24 years.  Having the best player in the conference at the most important position in the league is so meaningless when you have to pay him "his" money.

Hey, it’s all the rage

Worth considering that it's not just about 2023.

Free agents after 2023

  • Slay
  • Hurts

Free agents after 2024

  • Reddick (age 31)
  • Sweat (age 28)
  • Maddox (age 29)
  • Devonta (certainly is getting 5th year option - age 27)
  • Dickerson (age 27)
  • Milton Williams (age 28)

By not overpaying Hargrave/Bradberry, we can extend our younger guys. The only hard call in 2 years is Reddick given he'll be 31.

Dickerson keeps playing at the level he did this year he will be the highest paid guard in the leauge.

I'd like Nassir Adderley from San Diego, good size at 6ft and a good tackler. Oh and he's a Philly kid lol.

John Johnson if the price is right

If they let CJGJ walk and sign someone like Adderley or Johnson at a significantly cheaper cost I might be able to get behind that. If they let CJGJ walk and just bring back Epps and go with him and Blankenship that will be a disaster. Epps is ok as a number 2 safety but he isn't a 1 and Blankenship is a depth guy.

Exactly.

If CGJ is as good as gone, Eagles brass better have a contingency plan that includes adding a legit FA safety to pair with Epps OR Blankenship.

Ideally, you pair FA Johnson with a draft pick like Sydney Brown.

Let Epps get his in FA.

Blankenship backup and competes with rookie.
