Howie telling Berry and Raiche to spend 20M a year on CJGJ

Working through my stages of grief with CJGJ. Past denial and now in the he better not sign with Dallas phase.

I wonder how the safety pay tiers will shake out.

Im guessing Bates is at the top.

Then you may have Gardner-Johnson, Julian Love, and Donovan Wilson

Then Thornhill, and Vonn Bell, Rapp

Then  Adderley, Amos, Poyer, Jimmy Ward, Keanu Neal, Nick Scott

Then McLeod, Karl Joseph, Gipson, Jabril Peppers, Eric Rowe, LaMarcus Joyner, Jonathan Abram

I think Bates or even Julian Love are home run pivot options. But I think we can maintain a very good defense by replacing him with Rapp, Thornhill, or Bell, maybe even Adderly.

Increasing risk, Howie and his pro scout staff can determine who has an effective season left out of the older group of guys like Poyer, Amos, and Jimmy Ward, or if you take the injury risk on Neal.If the staff determines any of those guys have enough gas left, theyd each be an excellent veteran presence to have on the back end.

I keep saying it. But we have so many options at safety, Im not at all worried about losing Gardner-Johnson.

CJ brought it here man …..  I wish him well, fun season with him.

Wonder if he wants to replace Quez and return punts.

WR Released Robbie Anderson

I’ve cried many rivers here before, but will not do so if they lose CJGJ.  I’m not convinced he’s ever going to replicate those INT numbers, nor am I convinced he’s THAT good in coverage.  If the price is too high, I get it.

Ill save my anger for signing players over 30 or drafting players I don’t like.

For anyone they lose in FA…I’ll understand.

Ultimately what matters is the team they field on game 1. I'm sure Howie will make moves.  His moves on D have often not worked out but we'll see. He's not going to do nothing that much is sure

Under considered approach to FA:

Let them all walk but re-sign Seumalo.  Then draft all defense early.

Keeps the OL intact, allows you to draft OL potential and upside late while accepting delayed impact.  OL tend to age better and he’s more likely to give you bang for the buck for the duration of the contract.

WR sideshow Bob released

The Eagles just don't let 25 year old players entering their prime and looking for a second contract go very often. Add in the fact that they gave up two picks for CJGJ and this one is perplexing. They are going to end up regretting letting him go.

Here’s the article. She has Hargrave as #1 although I don’t know if that means anything. She also has Jessie Bates listed so this might just be her educated guess of what they will do.

All true but then the question is who are you putting on the field on defense next year? I don't say that in an all is lost way. But ultimately the plan can't be to the let every D starter walk and hope for the best. So if not CJGJ then what is the plan?

Perhaps we should wait and see.  Perhaps Howie will surprise us.

Laughable.

Hes an injury prone running QB who is his own agent and has no idea what hes doing and doesn't understand his value in the NFL.  Hed be lucky to get the deal he rejected now.  Yes I know his mom is technically his agent which is even more embarrassing for him.

Kaepernick didn’t understand his value in the NFL either.

All we need on offense is a running back so fa and the draft should be all d.

Another case of being smart about who you let close when it comes to money.

Can't lie, while I haven't followed things intently, CJGJ and AJ really were annoying AF since the SB.  If he walks, I'm ok with his me first attitude being gone.  There was some patterns developing with this team and their me first tendencies/stat chasing over the year.  I'm hoping it ends before the next season starts.

I don't think so.  They acquired CJGJ for a 2023 5th and a 2024 6th.  Both he and the Eagles know he's more valuable than that compensation from the Saints, but both parties agreed he was looking to enter free agency when the time came.

I believe Howie has given him a firm offer and told him he's welcome to come back if the market doesn't beat that offer.  That said, it seems like maximizing his earning potential with make the decision for him.

… and he knows that the Eagles gave him a superb opportunity to maximize his earning potential.  There is no reason for him to be angry at the Eagles.  No reason at all.

Letting Hargrave/Bradberry walk does not mean punting on 2023.

Agreed.  We may win a lot of games by being the 2023 version of the Greatest Show on Turf.  Not only may … should.
