Under considered approach to FA:

Let them all walk but re-sign Seumalo.  Then draft all defense early.

Keeps the OL intact, allows you to draft OL potential and upside late while accepting delayed impact.  OL tend to age better and he’s more likely to give you bang for the buck for the duration of the contract.

Resigning Seumalo is thinking short term not long term.  RG should be filled with an eye to the future.  If there is need for a short term fix/plug-in then use Driscoll or Brett Toth.  They did that with Wiz and that worked out just fine.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Letting them go would be a catastrophic mistake. And if it happens it’ll look even worse when they pay their replacements close to as much money(but not quite) to get significantly lesser players.

That is such a Negadelphian take.

You need to let go of Toth lol

I trust their judgement.  They have kept him around for a reason.  Same thing with Noah Elliss.  They have forgotten more about football than any of us will ever know.

He probably will but as for waiting that's not what we do here.

I can’t believe Howie hasn’t signed a FA yet. Asleep at the damn wheel!

I'd argue that Seumalo has more years as a quality starter in him than Slay, Sanders, Bradberry, and Hargrave.

I'm not saying he's a must re-sign.  I just think, for the position, there may be more cost-effective years in this contract than we think.

I also wouldn't want to short change the upside of our future RT selection by drafting someone that is also considered NFL ready at RG right now.  In case that's not clear...our offense is built to rely on absolutely dominating tackles.  Lane's replacement can't be a merely good RT.  So I don't want ability to contribute immediately at RG to be a factor in selecting the next one.

Our OL was very nearly a devastating problem last year due to health.  By a miracle, all 5 made it through healthy.  I think it's very, very, very, very unlikely that happens again next year.  So if we start out -1 in the offseason, it's only going to hurt that much more if we go to -2 or even -3 later on.  Seumalo at least provides some cushion.

So is it FA?  Been so involved with work I lost track of the dates.

It's secret hush hush tampering period until Monday when it's legal tampering period.

The Eagles just don't let 25 year old players entering their prime and looking for a second contract go very often. Add in the fact that they gave up two picks for CJGJ and this one is perplexing. They are going to end up regretting letting him go.

Yep. I get money is an issue, but they need people with his attitude and leadership. He was literally the only one who showed up on defense in the Super Bowl. To reward that with letting him walk is baffling to me.

Got it.  So we have illegal but accepted tampering --> Legal tampering --> Announcement of handshake agreements figured out at the combine --> Lecharles Bentley is not an Eagle.

So we are still pretty early in the process.

IF the Eagles really are in on Paris Johnson or Dawand Jones, they are going to have to play RG because there's no way the Eagales draft another OT in the 1st round just to let them sit to play tackle only.  At the very least, Lane is playing out the final 3 years of this contract.  Mailata isn't going anywhere.  Dillard was drafted and sat for 5 years.  Complete waste of not only a 1st round pick but trading up for him.  Jones or Johnson would be sitting at RT for 3 years. I'm not on board with drafting 2 OT in the span of 5 years for them to just sit and wait.

These appear to be the options for the OL next year.  I prefer option 1 with Kelce coming back and Jurgens playing RG.  If Kelce retires, I'm leaning towards Toth/Driscoll at RG.  I think the more experience surrounding Jurgens to start, the better.

Mailata Dickerson Kelce Jurgens Johnson-  This is ideal to me.  You get the best center in the game back and last years 2nd round pick on the field.

Mailata Dickerson Kelce ROOKIE 1st rounder Johnson- Happy Kelce is back, but yet another 2nd round pick sitting on the bench.

Mailata Dickerosn Kelce Seumalo Johnson- Kelce is back, Eagles pay top dollar for Seumalo and again, 2nd round pick on the bench.

Mailata Dickerson Jurgens Seumalo Johnson- Kelce retires, Eagles pay to keep Seumalo.

Mailata Dickerson Jurgens FA Johnson- Jurgens takes over, Eagles decide to address RG rather than defense in FA.

Mailata Dickerson Jurgens Toth/Driscoll Johnson- Jurgens takes over at center, Eagles promote from within to fill a hole for time being.

Mailata Dickerson Jurgens ROOKIE 1st rounder Johnson- Jurgens gets his chance at center and 1st round  pick plays out of position until Lane retires.

Mailata Dickerson Jurgens ROOKIE OG Johnson- Eagles draft OG in the middle rounds and plug in as starter from day 1.

What are the thoughts on Torrence if he's there at Pick 30?

Dude is a 6'5" 330 lb road grater of an OG

Lamar Jackson illustrates that trying to get the player signed does not always equal the player having reasonable salary expectations

Don’t be completely shocked if Dillard is brought back if a market doesn’t exist for him to be a starter elsewhere

What’s our estimated cap number when Howie reworks contracts?

image.thumb.png.79e3db8fd52974e116f6368b6f065ee5.png

-Porter Jr slides into CB2.

-Downs replaces Watkins as an actual slot WR. Fans will hate spending a high pick on a WR again but this trio would be dangerous.

-Adebawore & Tippmann train behind Graham & Kelce. This allows Jurgens to slide over to RG (Huge fan of Tippmann who also has experience at tackle).

-Brooks adds to DT rotation and has solid upside.

-Hodges-Tomlinson gives Dessai flexibility with Maddox to move to safety. No more Josiah Scott please.

-McBride is a workhorse, easily replaces Sanders week 1.

All in all you get at least 2-3 day one starters IMO. Maybe 4-5 depending on who is signed in FA at S, RG.

Rough estimate here but if they kick the can on Slay, Johnson and Elliott they can get to about $30M in cap space. To sign the rookies will be about $6M and for in season moves I have no idea but let’s go with $4M. So basically $20M to work with I’d guess.

I'm guessing some of that might go towards Hurts

Based on what we have seen of him, he is a Juan Castillo type OG rather than Stoutland type OG.  During this just completed season, how often do you see Eagles OGs and/or Kelce act as a "road grader”. They were almost always on the move … looping, pulling, trapping, etc.  The one exception to that was on the QB Sneak plays.  Unless Stoutland sees something in person that isn’t evident in his play so far, Torrence just isn’t a match.

We aren’t looking for road graders.  We are looking for dancing bears.

My guess is the structure of a new deal wouldn’t be much more this year, but more so later years with option bonuses that become fully guaranteed at certain dates. If he gets a deal similar to Kyler Murray it should only be about $2 to $3M more than his current cap deal.

He's not a leader, he's a catalyst. He brings energy and attitude. And it's not that they don't want to reward him, it's making a decision for the betterment of the team and not making decisions out of emotion. They only value safety so much. I think he's more valuable because of his versatility. If he comes back it'll be because he took less than he was offered somewhere else.

🤣 I called him a road grater. He shreds cheese in his spare time.

But you're right, his skillset doesn't match.

There are some mid round prospects that might fit that mold. Avila and Stromberg come to mind.
