The best move with Slay IMO is not extending/restructuring/trade him, but letting him play out his deal.

I've seen conflicting things on if we save money from moving on from him or actually take on a bigger cap hit that I don't know what is what.

But if they do save money by moving on from him then I would trade Slay and bring back Bradberry.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Not opposed to double dipping at CB in the first (Witherspoon and Forbes?) - then trading or releasing Slay to save $17M of cap.

Witherspoon or Gonzalez as the first pick and Banks as the second pick would be my preference.  I would keep Slay, because the $22M of dead money charge would turn the $17M cap savings into a $3.7M cap charge.

Guys that interest me

  • Robby Anderson
  • Shaq Griffin
  • Marcus Mariota

 God I love the start of FA. Robby Anderson is a whackjob scrub. No thanks. Sorry Temple fans. Griffin wouldn't be awful, but he's a high-end JAG (pun intended). Mariota quit on his team cause he didn't want to be a backup, don't want that stink in our locker room.

Now THIS is a name I would be interested in. KR/PR/Slot

Given the choice I'd take Addison over Njigba for sure.  Njigba only offers production out of the slot.  Addison can be lined up anywhere; looks to me like he excels out wide or from the slot.  Hard to tell which player runs better routes, but my perception is Addison.

I think Njigba can play outside. I don't see why not.

It only saves just under $5M, unless you mean Post June 1st.

Post June 1st doesn’t "save” any cap dollars it just defers part of the pain into the next year, so that year starts with a big Dead Cap balance/charge.

Remember when everyone said Jefferson could only play the slot

With Forbes' low weight - he might slip a bit, but even with the Lito/Sheldon double-dip.. neither started right away (and the Gannon coaching regime seemed to resist pushing rookies onto the field - not sure if Desai has a different mentality...).

Wasn’t one of Desai’s starters Tariq Woolen?  How did that work out?

Isn't Woolen over 200 lbs?

I think Witherspoon and Gonzalez can be plug-and-play guys in Year 1.  I think after that it's a dropoff to guys I likely wouldn't want out there starting right away.  I'd take Banks third and Porter fourth.

Hopeful one of the first two are available when the Eagles pick -- even more hopeful Howie decides to take the best CB rather than the 3rd best DL

First round WR and a HB in rounds 2 and 3?

Yeah, no.

Understood, but the premise is to put together a Don Coryell or Greatest Show on Turf Offense that obviates the need for more than an average Defense.

Apples to oranges.  I was one of the few who pointed out Jefferson played the entire 2018 season at LSU as an outside WR; was moved to the slot in 2019 so Terrace Marshall could get on the field with Chase and Jefferson.

I can't even find video evidence of Njigba playing outside.

We should be the best team in the NFC even if the defense takes a step back.  The expectation for the offense to get a bit better.  And then maybe the defense has less of a horrific final game.

Best team in the NFC isn’t good enough.  Best team in the NFL is the goal and scoring 41 or more points a game would probably produce that result … even when the Defense allows 33.

Coryell also had a bottom 5 defense in points allowed from 81-86, and he never won anything outside of division titles. He was obviously a great innovator, but you can’t just focus everything into offense

What does that have to do with whether he is a rookie or not?  You lost me.

I agree, and of those two I still lean Witherspoon despite the combine. Banks 3rd, Porter 4th. Here's how I think the first 9 play out:

Off the board:

QB - Young, Stroud, Richardson, Levis

EDGE - Anderson, Wilson, Murphy

DL - Carter

OL - Johnson

At 10, that leaves the following reasonable choices on the board:

CB - Witherspoon, Gonzalez

EDGE - VanNess

OL - Skoronski, Jones

WR - Johnson, Smith-Njigba

DL - Kancey

In this scenario, I take the CB1 Witherspoon all day over the other options.

If the board breaks this way you have to take one of the corners. If both corners are gone and no one like Carter, Murphy, Wilson falls, I would look to trade back to ~15 and there start looking at Banks & Porter Jr.

Douglas rebuilding the Jets nicely and nailing early round picks for them.

Except for the Zach Wilson pick…. Honestly that miss hurts them so bad cause they really are a Qb away from being a legit playoff contender. Their defense is there. And their offense has the weapons

Yes, I understand that, but it does free up more 2023 cap space than a pre June 1st transaction, which is what I meant.

I don't foresee both being gone, though one is fairly realistic. If one is gone, I simply take the other.

If those 8 players are on the Board at 10 (plus RB - Robinson) I’m trading down for sure. Only Skoronski and Johnston are not desirable in that list of 8.  Ideally the trade down is only one slot (Titans) or two slots (Texans).  There is a good chance the Titans go OT after cutting Taylor Lewan and the Texans go WR with Johnston as a weapon for their new QB.  That would mean both Witherspoon and Gonzalez are still on the Board after they pick.  The Jets want an OT, so we get to New England … will they want a CB?

Bottom-line your scenario is a trade down dream.

I’m !l for double dipping at CB. If Carter is there at 10 though I could be convinced otherwise. Also if Torrence is there at 30 I could be convinced to take him as well. There’s no chance Howie doesn’t trade down at least once though.

I understand you understand that. My comment was directed at others.

I still have doubts Richardson goes in the top 10.  I think after the post-Combine hype settles down, teams will go back to looking at his tape and come to the conclusion the guy can't do a lot of basic QB functions.

I wouldn't bet any money on it, though.  Colts, Raiders, and Panthers are all prime candidates to make a huge reach at QB with their first pick.
