The best sign of the long-term health of this franchise is Howie not falling in love with his guys. He learned from 2017/2018.

Tbh if slay wasn’t 32 and was 29-30 i think a deal likely would’ve gotten done. The fact he’s 32 and any extension kicks in at 33 is likely the reason here. Add on his play the second half of the year wasn’t nearly as good.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Would a trading team be opposed to agreeing to a trade but it not being official until post-June?  Not like he would be playing before then

Is Rock an outside CB?

They can do that, or the simpler solution is that Slay restructures with the Eagles then immediately gets traded.

Yes. But not a good one.

So IF Slay is traded, do they look to bring Bradberry back or are they going the young, inexpensive direction?

I'm out on Bradberry. We will be in the same boat as we are with Slay all over again as he will be 30, makes no sense to me. Go get Jamel Dean or even Cam Sutton. Then draft your guy. We will be right in the wheelhouse for corners at 10. I think Witherspoon will be there for us as Gonzalez has the elite traits a team will fall in love with.

You may not completely understand how a restructure works… That would cost us wayyyyyy more money. We’d take a cap close to 40m$ if we did that

Per Kempski article this morning:

  1. If that trade is before June 1, you're taking the full $22,409,000 hit in 2023, but you would actually save $3,702,000 on his 2023 cap number of $26,111,000.
  2. If that trade is after June 1, you're taking on $8,611,000 in dead money in 2023, and $13,798,000 in 2024. The immediate savings on the 2023 cap would be $17.5 million, but if you receive draft pick compensation in return, it will be in 2024 and beyond, when the Eagles are already loaded with picks.
  3. If Slay plays out the final year of his contract in 2023 and is not brought back in 2024, he'll count for $13,798,000 in dead money in 2024.

I know you can designate a player as a post june 1st cut but they still count on your cap until then, can they do the same for trades? Like the trade wouldn't be officially in the books until June 1st?

I can't really see an AJ Brown type trade and sign scenario with Slay. I'm sure Howie has something in his bag of tricks.

I forget who said it (Kapadia maybe?) but they thought Dean would get a bigger deal than Bradberry

1) It doesn't have to (but it could)
2) If it does, we get better draft compensation. Ex: If we take a big dead cap right away by converting some of his base salary to signing bonus (so the Eagles eat the cap), we would get better picks from the acquiring team.

Nope

I believe it was Dean. I’m guessing Dean likely could due to age and upside

Good information.

4. Is there any option for a player for player trade?  Would anyone have traded Slay for Berrios?  What about Slay and a 2024 pick for Dalvin Cook?

Scenario 2 seems like the best option for the Eagles. You are taking on the same dead cap in 2024 as scenario 3, but at least you have the potential to get some draft compensation back.

I think he found a way to embed a YouTube chat box in to a post in here.  So I guess a thread will be created each week for the game and in the OP everyone can chat.

Restructure means we take the 17m$ salary and convert it into a bonus, which then all hits at once when we trade him, where we could have gotten out of that salary. All you’re doing is creating more unnecessary cap charges

Any team that trades for him would negotiate an extension, ripping up any salary he has left, so it’s irrelevant to them if we restructure before the trade or not

Its a terrible idea any way you look at it

So if we trade post June 1 we get no picks this year which kind of sucks but does free up some serious loot.

Honestly, I would rather take the hit now and get the picks in this draft if possible.  With those sweet, sweet comp picks next year, we will already have a lot of darts to throw.  Get them this year and we can focus on grabbing the players we want instead of trading down for more picks.

The Eagles wouldn't get that cap relief until June 1st. So it wouldn't help them in FA but could help them later with something like a CJGJ trade that happened much later in the offseason, or restructuring their own players.

Planning is not just for 2023. It helps 2024, 2025, etc.

IMO, best case scenario is we wait until post-June1st, then trade him for a much younger player on another team that’s also in a contract dispute. Slay and a 2024 2nd for Ramsey, then huge cap relief to give him an extension

Doesnt have to be that guy specifically, just an example. Or perhaps Jeffrey Simmons, who still hasn’t gotten an extension from Tennessee and may not with their cap issues

Makes sense and exactly what I advocated before.  Trade Slay now to save $17M of comp this year and overall cap, then double dip at CB in the draft.

What's the point of highly paid CBs when we always get torched by top QBs anyway?  Save that money and use it elsewhere.
