They have to bring Brady in.  Roster and coaching staff is going to be too jam packed to just ride it all on so at risk for a concussion like Tua, as good as he is when he is actually playing for them.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Yeah, but then the first year of it was the remainder of 2022 back when he was still on his rookie salary. So this is a restructure of the second year of the deal (or first year of new money), something they probably expected to do back in october

Reddick, Sweat and Graham means we no longer have to draft an EDGE in RDs 1 or 2. We can draft a developmental edge at any point in the draft, hoping they're EDGE #3 in 2024. Gives Howie more roster flexibility.

yeah draft a guy that can get into the rotation this season at edge , get starters at CB and S or DT

Wrong. We should've drafted Graham's replacement last year. We can't punt again this year. When he leaves, we need a DE with experience to pick up where he left off.

I'll bite.

Who should we have drafted last year? Keep in mind that last year's EDGE class was not considered good.

Don’t forget we have Barnett too. Not the greatest player, but can be a high snap guy if he’s 100% healthy

I always forget he's still on the team

He’s not great, but he’s not THAT bad. Clean up the penalties and he’s a good run defender

I like that.

Im not sure adding another 17M in dead cap has been in Howie's plans.

Getting picks this year helps if we then want to double dip early on CBs in this draft.

On the other hand, the extra cap room created may create the potential for us to extend Bradberry without adding any dead money/void years. In a way, that could cancel out the dead cap created through a slay trade.

Yeah, the dead cap hit sucks but in reality, you do have a cap savings.  With a rookie, its virtually a wash from a $$$ perspective.  Then that 17 million base is off the books.  If he is trying to get cap healthy, its a big pill to swallow but has a positive long term effect.

Why is it taking 5+ years to fix the penalties?

I’m not a Barnett fan at all but a rotation of Reddick, Sweat, BG, Barnett, and mid-later round edge rusher works for me.

Could've traded back for Karlaftis instead of trading up for Davis for instance. Hindsight is 50/50 so my point is we can't keep kicking it down the road. There are plenty worth taking a shot on this draft.

Even if the eagles decide to move on from Slay, I’m not sure I would want Bradberry back either. Look at the secondary the Chiefs fielded and beat us with. Not really any standouts or anyone with a big contract. I think with a better scheme, we could get away with a younger secondary. Especially if our pass rush is only half of what is was next year. Both Slay and Bradberry are getting older and I’d like to draft some younger replacements and maybe pair them with a cheaper priced vet.

With only 6 picks (I'm sure Howie will try to recoup some) I rank our needs at:

1. CB

2. EDGE

3. DT

4. S

5. RB

6. Slot WR

Graham coming back is fantastic, but I still want one on day 1 or 2. This kid from Northwestern is a freakish athlete. With him only needing to be a rotational guy, him being a little raw doesn't scare me.

As always, FA will dictate our draft priorities.

Great news. Keep tying yourself to Dak.

When has that ever worked, besides 2002?

2017 when the Eagles drafted Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas.

But, what of Zeke?

No, Howie offered it when slay wouldn’t take a pay cut

Or Slay asked for it when Howie wouldn't offer to extend his deal.

To be fair, they weren’t selected as the first and second picks respectively.

Trading Slay is dumb.

It would be dumb if you weren’t committed to turning the page on Defense, but turning the page is really the only option at this point.

with that said, what is the upside of the "keepSlay” strategy?

Odd since I kept reading from a few people in the blog during the first month of the season how Jalen is selfish and was going to turn a lot of the people in the lockerroom against him because he was scoring touchdowns himself and dancing.

That could be teams that don't have a top QB. If you have a Carr or Daniel Jones type QB sure, maybe.  But Jalen is one of the best in the league, by far the best in the NFC and is only 24 years old.

When you have one of the best at the most important position then you pay them to keep them.

That is one alternative approach, and probably the best approach, but there are other alternatives that are viable.  There is risk associated with the keep Hurts strategy and there is risk associated with the trade Hurts strategy.  There is no slam dunk strategy available.

I have no idea what's being said here, and yet I still got a chuckle out of it ....

Does this mean "it's a new day ... move on"?

Slay is still good. Let's not get that twisted.

Wonder who we we legally tamper with on Monday. I'd assume they have their eyes on a CB or S? Maybe DT?

What a terrible approach to a year after we almost won a SB and still have a young QB and weapons. I do not understand this line of thinking. I doubt Howie is ready to mail it in this year. Very odd.

2023 is not mailed in by any means.  Even with a full turnover on Defense, building around the youthful core players, I expect a no worse record than 11wins and 6 losses and a return to the NFCCG.  And in the process clearing almost all the Void Years prorated bonuses (future Dead Cap).

Your approach mortgages the future instead of setting up the future for continuous dominance.
