Need a twitchy, athletic guy like Wes Welker for the slot.  Both DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown work quite well at stretching the field vertically.  I think the Eagles need a slot guy to challenge the defense from sideline to sideline and short spaces.

Parris Campbell makes a lot of sense cause they liked him coming out. Was down to JJAW and Campbell. Unlike JJAW, Campbell can actually be productive his issue is staying on the field. He’s likely not making a lot of money due to his production cause of injury past. He knows sirriani from sirriani’s time with the colts and I’m guessing sirianni will vouch for him if they get him at a cheap price.

Good suggestion

can those skills come from a second pass catching TE?

Perhaps, but I was thinking more of a smaller, shifty guy to break down coverage underneath and clear room for Goedert in the intermediate areas.  In this draft, someone like Zay Flowers or Josh Downs from UNC

In terms of talent, we will be close to the levels of this year - next year.

Imo, it’s about filling in the gaps - and obviously both coordinator positions need to be filled with as good (or better) talent.

That's misleading as hell. They are going to have to restructure/extend Kelce if he comes back. He's going to cost $11.5M no matter what, if he comes back it's going to be more against the cap.

Considering the source... are you surprised?  I don't think its misleading as much as it is just plain wrong.  I don't think he knows what he's talking about.

To be fair to him though... The Kelce situation is complicated.

Hurts will cost $40M+/yr - how low can that be cap managed down to in 2023 on a likely fully-guaranteed contract?  Like a 4-yr deal + 4 void years, etc.?

Any chance Chase Young is available in a trade?

We'll he's always posting misleading things, so either its intentional or he's an idiot. Wouldn't be surprised by either.

I'm not even sure they can restructure Slay either. He only has automatically voidable years after 2023. I'm not entirely sure but I would think they would have to extend him to another year to be able to restructure him. Maybe at most they would be allowed to add another void year, but again not sure on that.

Someone who is not necessarily twitchy but somewhat athletic is Calcaterra.  Wouldn't mind trying him out in a slot role.

Don't think he will ever be much of a blocker but he reminds me a little of Ertz.  He can line up inside and find some space in zone coverage.  Ertz always reminded me of a big possession type WR rather than a TE.  Just a chain mover.

Not sure why we don't use Gainwell as our slot option.  He can still be used at RB also.  To me he was our best option this year.

Buddy sent me this which I thought was pretty wild. All championship games that Philadelphia teams have been in for pretty much the past 50 years have been against dynasty teams/franchises, not necessarily one-off surprises like the Eagles were this year:

  • '76 Flyers lost to Montreal who won four Cups in a row
  • '80 Flyers lost to Islanders who won four Cups in a row
  • '82 Sixers lost to the 80s Lakers (got them back in '83)
  • '85 and '87 Flyers lost to Edmonton who won five Cups in seven years
  • '93 Phillies lost to Toronto who won back to back World Series
  • '97 Flyers lost to Detroit who won three Cups in six years
  • '01 Sixers lost to Shaq/Kobe Lakers who won three straight
  • '04 Eagles lost to Brady/Belichick Pats who won three Super Bowls in four years at the time
  • '09 Phillies lost to the Yankees
  • '10 Flyers lost to Chicago who won three Cups in six years
  • '22 Phillies lost to Houston who had made four World Series in six years
  • '22 Eagles lost to Mahomes/Reid Chiefs

The only happenstance teams they seemed to play were the '08 Phillies against Tampa Bay and the '83 Phillies against Baltimore

4.9M.

Because what you guys still dont get, is that it will be an extension. Not a brand new contract.

He'll have a minimal cap hit in 2023. It's not going to be over $10M.

I tend to lean towards giving him the benefit of the doubt.   He's ignorant and unaware.  I guess that makes him an idiot?   But, a well intentioned one just trying to get some coin from his takes... tweets and 'videos'.

I'm not sure it'll be fully guaranteed. It's definitely going to be a big number but I don't think teams are really going to allow the Watson deal to continue

It's going to change. Howie is going to take the base salary and make it less than $1M, then you are going to have the signing bonus prorated starting from 2023 through up to 5 years. It's not going to be an absurd number but an extension does change his 2023 cap number.

They won't trade him in then NFC East if he is.

Gainwell is very much a multi-purpose guy, for sure.  I was thinking more in terms of a full time replacement for Watkins, who I hope will get beat out in training camp.

Does that $4.9M include 1yr of the bonus spread?

No. $4.9M is his current number without a new deal.

Ok, maybe. That will still be no problem in 2023 for us.

But......why?

Why did we do this when clearly our defense is the side of the ball facing AR and Mahomes?

It makes no sense and now even less sense.  I just assumed they were protecting Gannons ego.

They were pumped on Gannon's video too and didn't think he needed anymore help.

If I recall, that was one of the reasons we drafted him - with the potential to play out of the slot.  For whatever reason, we got away from that this past season.
