That would be a horrible trade.

Better off trading a player (Slay) for that type of trade up.

It's the point value chart.  Not sure a 32 year old corner with one year left on his deal is going to move the needle for any team when you are trying to trade up into the top 10.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

I don’t think he’s as valuable a can’t miss as the 10th overall pick is in trade asset. If we move down into the 20’s, the CB’s available there will be commensurate in combination with the potential 2024 1st round pick we get in return (or maybe multiple day 2 picks)

So who is that another team would be willing to pay that price?

I’m guessing in response to the Payne contract?

4 years younger than Hargrave

This was the guy I had hoped made it to FA. Would've been a perfect fit here. Our DT position is not looking good. Hargrave will be gone, Cox is not the same and he's most likely gone. Though I would not be surprised if Howie gives him a deal as there's not much else in FA and the draft looks weak there. Davis showed a few flashes and that's about it. Williams is just a rotational player.

Davis and williams are just fine

and cheap

Just fine there, for a below average tandem sure. Major drop off from where we were. I'm expecting Howie to do something there as they value the trenches too much.

Or he just saw Howies lowball offer

There isn't going to be ton at DT in free agency if they let Hargrave go. Hope Howie doesn't fall in love with his own legend and think he can just sign any "undervalued" DT thinking they will turn into a stud. Most of the time those don't work out and they're undervalued for a reason. Can't expect every DT to wind up like Hargrave did.

I was hoping for Dre'Mont Jones but he will be 20 mil per himself. I like him but it's a lot. He would be a building block however and is only 26. He would make some sense.

They are going to have make do at DT or LB; or work a  trade out for someone on a last year rookie deal to fill the holes.  Both positions should get help in the draft, but not sure they will splash masses amount of cash about.  Going to be interesting how they can bridge the roster out.

Something on the cap position for next year

Last year I would have never guessed NO would pay a 1, 2, and a 3 for out pick in the teens.. so you dangle the pick and find out

Everything falls off after this year though I believe?

Howie's best attribute is digging himself out of the holes he put himself in.

Not a great DT class though. At least not at the top especially with Carter having his off field issue. I'd wait til the mid rounds. Cancey I really like but is awfully small. There's a couple mid round guys I have some interest in. Zacch Pickens and Colby Wooden. Grab one or even both plus a FA like Poona Ford.

Yeah. At the moment, next year is clearer than it has been for a while.  The only issue will be if they do anything now to add in cap space and can kick.  I'm sure brighter people can be more forensic on that

And this is funny. Condemning yourself to mediocrity and  a high priced one.

My feeling is an accompaniment to Davis and Williams will come in the draft. Depends on what Desai will do to the D

I’d say wait and see. There’s going to be some more heavy hitters still that are going to build on 2024 dead money.

Slay, for example, has $12M dead at the end of his deal and that’s if they just let him play out the year as is. If they restructure or do something with his contract, dead money is only going to go up.

They're gonna need it...Hurts, Smith & Dickerson aren't gonna be cheap.

What happens when you mortgage for present

the cap needs and enema

Right, but the player will not play a season with a 20+% cap hit nor will the dead money once they eventually get cut/traded because they can’t kick the can any further. They can spread the money out enough where that doesn’t happen. $50 million this season is worth a lot more than next season and the following seasons.

GMs know this, they know they can’t pay a single player so much it hinders the rest of the team. The whole premise is about drafting a QB every 3-4 years so you always have one on a rookie contract to compete. The gigantic flaw in that logic is assuming you can draft a decent QB every 3-4 years. If it were easy, you wouldn’t have teams that have spent decades even looking for a decent one. Even if you have the top pick in the draft. There are many more examples of top pick QBs busting rather than being successful.

If you find a good QB, you keep them and draft well to build around them. If your GM can’t do that, they will be gone and a new regime will start the cycle all over again. There’s plenty of examples of QBs making it to the Super Bowl on rookie contracts and making it back again on a new more expensive contract.

That is correct, but given the way the NFL, and particularly Howie, use void years, it is only a matter of time before the balloon payment comes due.  For example, if Hurts signs an extension worth $50 million per year with an active period of five years but a voidable period of 8 years, then the $250 million total is spread over the 8 years … approximately $30 million per year in the void years 6, 7, and 8.  So in year 5 Hurts signs another 5 year $50 million per year extension.  Again the term really isn’t 5 years but 8 years for proration purposes.  So the second extension annual proration is $30 million.  That means in year 6 there is the initial $30 million void year proration from the first extension, plus the additional $30 million per year proration from the second extension.  As a result the cap hit in years 6, 7, and 8 is $60 million. It drops down to $30 million in years 9 and 10.  Then in years 11, 12, and 13 you have a $30 million cap hit per year and no player to provide value for that annual cap hit.  Worse, the three years of $30 million are likely to accelerate into the year 11 cap as a $90 million hit … again with no actual player value to offset that hit.

Cox is also going to be like $8M in dead cap in 2024.

It should be better, but it’s not going to be perfect.

Except the Bengals house is older and has been burnt down before and has a high likelihood of burning down again.

If that is the case, then you don’ buy that "dream” house, because the dream has a high likelihood of becoming a nightmare.

I read an article on a potential Eagles-Jets draft night trade.  The premise was that the Jets need to get up to #10 to shore up their OL by drafting Paris Johnson at #10:

Trade Offer No. 1

  • Jets get No. 10 overall pick.
  • Eagles get No. 13 overall pick, 2024 second round pick & 2023 fifth round pick (No. 143).

Trade Offer No. 2

  • Jets get No. 10 overall pick & 2023 seventh round pick (No. 219).
  • Eagles get No. 13 overall pick, 2023 third round pick (No. 74), 2023 fourth round pick (No. 112) & 2023 sixth round pick (No. 207).

I prefer trade offer #2 this year.

Have we signed Ioannidis (sp?) yet - this is my expectation level.
