Jordan Davis was highly unlikely to be an impact player in year 1, regardless of where he was picked.  Especially when 2 vets got signed while he was injured and took snaps away from him.

This year though. Fewer excuses and barriers to playing tome. He lost weight in the season and has the time in the off season to work on his technique.

Yup

time to toss him into the fire and see how he does. I expect him to play well

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

I think they're "ok", I don't see enough to the play we are used to is all. Then using a 2nd rounder on them on top of it is where I'm out.  I'd rather get Pickens and/or Wooden who would be there later.

Fair argument on value

second round might be a better spot for OL though i still think pick 30 should be tackle or edge rusher

Starts at 9:00 AM right?  Also reports are circulating that Odell is asking for $20 million/year 🙂

At least that's what i heard on 2 Pro's and a Cup of Joe this morning

IDK Dell had over 100 catches this year, 90 last year, and hasn't missed any time recently due to injury - there are things that RAS doesn't measure.

I'll give Covey credit - he got rocked on a weekly basis and kept going.  Smitty takes a decent number of hits but keeps going - maybe it is a bit overstated that these light guys won't survive in the modern NFL.

As a WR he would have a very limited role, I could see him as a punt/kick returner, but how high of a pick are you using for that role? I'm not saying Dell is a bad player, I just see him being taken in some mocks here in the 3rd round. I think that's too early for someone who would primarily be a return specialist and the 4th receiving option.

I do.  He's had 3 very good DTs to learn from, has clearly worked on himself in season when he could have sat back as a rookie and done nothing.  Little stat sheet impact, but a lot to be hopeful about

Projects: 1 3rd and 3 4ths

I'm afraid to logon to the board today after 12noon EST.

I read somewhere those two dudes just happened to be standing there and the interaction was improvised.

Absolutely.

Jordan was a project. Year 1 you were looking for a run stuffer and flashes of upside.

Going into year 2, he needs to show that he’s more than a guy who occupies space. Everyone knew he could do that, but that’s not why he was drafted so high. He was drafted early in the first because he was an athletic freak at his size and actually flashed good hustle/work rate in college.

So now he needs to start making some plays. Realistically, if he can come up with 5 sacks I’d be pretty happy. He was super raw coming out. So just show me you can make some impact plays and your trajectory is upwards. That’s what I want from him this year: good run defense with average splash plays. Then year 3, I’m looking for him to be a true impact player.

Quinnen Williams, Jeffrey Simmons, Dexter Lawrence,  Fletcher Cox all struggled as rookies. DT is generally not an impact position for rookies.

Generally it’s not an impact position at all, which is why impact players at the position are so coveted.

There should be some good corners available at 30 too.

Forbes would be a nice pick. Assuming we re-sign Hurts, we need to go boom or bust on defensive style and in a great CB class, Forbes is the best playmaker.

Yes, also put Lane Johnson in that versatile mix.

Philly Special is one of the things the Eagles are known for.

Britain Covey was undefeated and won the state championship his last 2 years in high school.  I don't think he lost at all.

With these players, we're not asking them to be the starting QB, we're seeing if they can throw.   Determine if the player can do the thing before calling the play.

And Britain Covey's passer rating in College at Utah, where OC Brian Johnson went to college, was 518.8,  3 of 3 with 2 TDs.  And he threw those passes in the same year.  He could have thrown more and he can throw in the NFL.

But I would say that Covey isn't a versatile freakbeast for that spot.  It doesn't appear that he has a huge arm, able to do everything.   He could turn out to be an adequate slot on a team that has 3 star pass catchers and doesn't really need another.

The top versatile freakbeast for that versatile weapon / slot position is Tyree Jackson.  I think by now he should be good, and if he's healthy, have him get a lot of snaps doing that.   Catching and blocking like a TE and running and passing like a QB.  He was in the Bills camp as a QB.  He would be a great red zone pass catching threat at 6'7.  RAS as QB - 9.94 RAS as TE - 9.82.   Cannon of an arm.  Regularly threw 50-60 yard tds in college.  same speed as Jalen 4.59.    So,  I do understand the difference between Covey and Jackson.

That's true.

Most hyper-athletic DT dominate in college because they're just bigger/faster/stronger. In the NFL, that doesn't work as rookies. Then the DL figure out better hand-usage in years 2-4 and they figure it out. Whether Davis figures it out is another question, but he was a good pick at the time because you have to bet on those premium athletes.

I had a dream I was GM if the Eagles and at pick 10 Jalen Carter and Devon Witherspoon were there and I couldn’t decide because Slay was traded and Bradberry left and we hadn’t added another corner so we really needed another CB. And the time was ticking so I came to the EMB and Elon Musk style started a poll that said who do you want us to take and I will abide by the votes of the poll.

And Jalen Carter won the poll 65/35

And I ended up taking Devon Witherspoon anyway and everyone was pissed.

But Daniel Jeremiah said he loved the pick and his competitiveness and toughness were perfect for Philly.

That reminds me of the Donovan McNabb draft night booing that Eisen asked Joe Banner about.  He said the Eagles never considered drafting anyone but McNabb there, but even if they had been leaning RB the pick wouldn't have been Ricky Williams, anyway.  Banner said the Eagles had Edgerrin James as the top RB on their board.

You’ve ruined this place!!! Only long winded, boring posts allowed! No fun, or you’re reported for being abusive!

OK, I’ve shared my thoughts numerous times on why I don’t want Jalen Carter.  Can any of you who say if he’s there at 10 they need to run to the podium tell me why?  Why is he a must have player if he’s there?

He's not.

I think he's a player outside of the incident, but I also think he's being overhyped some.

For me it’s going to depend on how FA shakes out. There’s a scenario where interior DL is the most glaring need going into the draft and if the secondary is taken care of through re-signings and FA, and he’s sitting there at 10, then I think you to for it.

However if the CB situation is looking bleak going into the draft and you have an option between Carter or Gonzalez/Witherspoon/Porter Jr. I’m taking whoever is the highest rated corner.

I’m beginning to believe 10 will be a trade down with Banks the ultimate selection and 30 will also be a trade down with Forbes as the ultimate selection.  Double dip at CB.
