That is simply taking on a balloon mortgage just prior to the 2008 bursting of the Housing Bubble.  I sincerely hope the NFL passes a rule making contracts with void years illegal under the Cap.

why does the NFL have to outlaw everything the eagles do better than anyone else?

Its legal. It works. Let us have out amazing rosters. We are playing within the rules.

In fairness rodgers might be so high he thinks his phone ringing is actually a portal to another dimension that he doesn’t want to enter.

It's the Jets, so you aren't wrong.

Probably on an acid or shrooms trip. Possibly both

As a WR he would have a very limited role, I could see him as a punt/kick returner, but how high of a pick are you using for that role? I'm not saying Dell is a bad player, I just see him being taken in some mocks here in the 3rd round. I think that's too early for someone who would primarily be a return specialist and the 4th receiving option.

He has a 3rd round valuation based on his production and his performance at the senior bowl - and that’s not specific to the eagles.

The only reason I bring up Dell is because of the recent discussion in here (or at least my interpretation) where the premise is that we patch the D with middling FAs and use the draft to bolster the O. The offense only has a few holes, so concerns like a WR3/depth in case of injury are magnified.

I dont get it. Neither are very good, and neither have much more potential.

Allen was a big DE with a 5.0 second 40. Hes not some athletic freak that needs to be unleashed. He is what he is. He has never played all 16 or 17 games, and his biggest sack season was last year with 5.5.

Murphy has meh height at 5'11'' with short arms, and a 4.5 5 40. His size and athletic profile pigeon holes him as a nickel guy. Only played 9 games last year. Allowed a 115 QB rating when targeted, and averaged over 10 yards per reception on him. Going back to last year when he played all 17 games, he allowed a 109 passer rating and allowed 12.3 yards per reception. Guy stinks.

These 2 wastes of money.

Because its obviously intended to circumvent the hard cap

can argue its a void contract if you have no intention to follow through on it.

I’m guessing they structure it so it’s low cap number this year. I think they did something similar with reddick but I’d have to go back And check

Two reasons.  It is fiscally irresponsible, and it causes wild swings in events that destabilize the overall NFL product.

Is Gannon taking stupid pills - why would ARZ let these guys walk, it’s not like they have many good players.

Its not fiscally irresponsible at all. Its actually incredibly smart.

I dont know what you mean by your second point.

Productive players who are 25 at premium positions. Howie will absolutely target them.

Zach Allen is an interesting player. Had a good year last year with encouraging sack production. Long, violent player.

I like Niko Remigio as a slot rec / punt returner  , he can be had later in draft , smaller but quick

Taking on balloon mortgages was one of the major contributing factors to the severity of the Housing Bubble crash.  The financial wherewithal of the home buyers was not sufficient to justify the purchase with a conventional mortgage.  Then they had to give up the house when the balloon mortgage payment came due.  The same pattern happens in these NFL contracts.  When the player and the team part company, the void years balloon comes due and gets accelerated into the current year. The current Eagles Dead Cap amount clearly destabilizes the Normal functioning of the GM.  He is given a budget by the NFL, but that budget amount has to be reduced by the accelerated ballon mortgage amounts.  It creates a boom and bust landscape.

We have this to look forward to next year

They signed the two vets because he was injured AND because he wasn't playing that well before the injury.

The point being, a player drafted as highly as he was needs to become an impact player at some point.  Year 1, he was not.  We'll see how he does in Year 2.  But that's why he can only get an "I".  He didn't play a lot of snaps early in the year, even when he was healthy.  So, he has a long way to go to living up to his draft position.  PFF's grade is meaningless.  But, you are correct, his excuses will dry up quickly this season.  Time for him to play like the monster he was supposed to be.  He doesn't have to make a ton of plays himself and be all over the stat sheet, but his impact on the field should be a measurable one as his presence opens up options for other players to make more plays. Vince Wilfork was never a guy that made a big impact on the box score with his accumulated stats, but his presence paved the way for others.  And if Davis doesn't approach Wilfork-like impact, he will be a disappointment.

He needs to be John Henderson for me to be happy with the pick.

As a rookie, Henderson had 54 tackles,6.5 sacks, 10 TFL, 1 FF, 2 FR and 6 batted passes.  THAT is an impact rookie at DT. He ended his career with 29 sacks, 60 TFL, 8 FF, 6 FR and a ridiculous 46 batted passes.
