I love Slay, but the correct move is to trade him if he refuses a pay cut.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

If you could only keep one, is it Slay or CJGJ?

CJGJ for sure. We have to replace Slay soon anyway, would rather get the draft pick for him now and then grab Witherspoon, Gonzalez or Banks and be set for a few years.

Speaking of I hope we get some news about CJGJ tomorrow

CJGJ and it’s not close IMO

Quiet on the safety front today. Silence is golden right now.

Gonzalez or Witherspoon

Except he’s clearly trolling one fanbase. Gotta hope it’s not ours.

The damn Bengals have money to spend though. We have to restructure Lane and do something with Slay I think to fit CJ in. Howie and his pencil pushers need to make it happen.

Does anyone know the deal with JAKIB media? Only 31K subs, how do they employ everyone they do?

In

MacDonald, McMullen, Gunn, Brooks, Ellis, Joyner, Mikey Miss, etc. The guy who owns it must be loaded.

Normally, I’d make fun of this absurdity.

But I’m starting to wonder if the only 2 types of teams capable of winning a SB are teams with Patrick Mahomes and stacked teams with QBs on value contracts.

it's not absurd, it's just unconventional.

No QB at all is unconventional.  There were decades where there were no QBs, or most teams had no QBs.

You're never paying a QB $50 million a year.  You're never tied to one player so tightly.

The major downside to replaceable QB is that the media is going to endlessly bash you for not having just one QB who is a "franchise QB" whatever that means.

Most times teams want that franchise QB.  And all of the franchise QBs cost the same, even if Mahomes is the best.  All the QBs getting resigned are expected to pay a record amount.

If you get a QB on a rookie deal he's cheap, and if you aren't pushing him into a "be a big star" spot over and over, so that he gets there, he's not going to cost you a lot of money if you bring him back, or maybe you just replace him, it really doesn't matter.   Not saying the Eagles should do this, but they already have Tyree Jackson who could be shifted back to QB,  Greg Ward, Britain Covey (high school so probably not),  could draft Dorian D-T, Malik Cunningham.  And look at QBs who are available.  Easton Stick, Cam Newton, Mariota, whoever is cheap at the particular moment.  Lynn Bowden.   D'eriq King is a good one.  There are a lot of running QBs coming out of college and have been for years and they sometimes get to play QB, sometimes they have to change positions and sometimes don't play in the NFL.

Brock Purdy got wins in the playoffs.

Penny at one year, 1.2 million is the personification of low risk high reward. Dude is an absolute beast on the rare occasions that he is healthy. If the Eagles like what they see out of him in camp, great. If they don't, they can get rid of him. It also puts them in a situation that between him, Gainwell, Scott, and Sermon they don't have to force a RB pick in the draft, but if the value lines up at some point they can take someone in the mid rounds. Really nothing to dislike about the move, unless you wanted to pay 6 million per on a three year deal for David Montgomery or Miles Sanders who will likely get a similar deal.

Agree it’s a great move.  Love the philosophy of not wasting resources at the RB position.

Nah he can be gone after next season

Penny is cool and all but I’d still really like to see Gibbs or Charbonnet in an Eagles uniform

By the efficiency numbers, he’s significantly better than Barkley.

You are correct.

Barkley is fragile as hell, like many RBs. He was hurt to the point of ineffective vs the Eagles this year (Stinger) and he missed 20 games in 3 years before 2022.

Barkley is a 4.2 ypc back since his rookie year and that's flat out ordinary.  Penny is a 5.9 ypc back since his rookie year.

In 10 straight starts from week 14 in 2021 through week 5 in 2022 Penny averaged 101 yards rushing per game at 6.8 a carry with 8 TDs.

There is no one that is above that 'league' in ability.

Since week 14 of 2021, both guys have 5 games of 100+ rushing. Penny in 10 starts and Saquon in 21 starts.

Penny's career carries are not that low just because of injuries. He's also been constantly buried on the depth chart in Seattle. (mostly behind Chris Carson)

As long as we’re bringing in oft injured RBs I would take a flier sending the Lions a late pick for Swift

Swift would be perfect in this offense

IMO, the key this offseason is to maintain a top-five offense.

Still need to sign a backup QB, figure out WRs #3&4, add an OL #6 to replace Dillard and challenge Jurgens at RG, still room for another RB.  Nothing really extraordinary there.

The turnover, and likely decline, on defense was inevitable.  Hargrave, so far, is the only piece to go that would be difficult to replace.  And we have Davis, Dean, and Blankenship ready to step in elsewhere.  Keeping CJGJ would be a nice end to the first round of free agency.

Much prefer all defense picks in the first 3 rounds.  If those guys are around on day 3 then good.

Otherwise we’re fine there.

They still need to draft a RB for depth. That group of RBs is paper thin.
