Yeah I'd get why you would wonder that.  Prior to Mabimes winning the Super Bowl the only teams to ever win a Super Bowl in the past were teams with QBs on rookie deals/value contracts.

People are getting just flatpur goofy here.

It was Tom Brady winning half the time.

This was actually pretty funny

Penny at one year, 1.2 million is the personification of low risk high reward. Dude is an absolute beast on the rare occasions that he is healthy. If the Eagles like what they see out of him in camp, great. If they don't, they can get rid of him. It also puts them in a situation that between him, Gainwell, Scott, and Sermon they don't have to force a RB pick in the draft, but if the value lines up at some point they can take someone in the mid rounds. Really nothing to dislike about the move, unless you wanted to pay 6 million per on a three year deal for David Montgomery or Miles Sanders who will likely get a similar deal.

As a complete low risk move, it's fine.  Something that helps a guy like Penny and the Eagles deciding to bring him in could be the NFL's more flexible roster rules.  Penny, or any player can be put on IR designated to return twice throughout the year.  So having that in their back pocket helps a bit.  Consider him a gameday active Trey Sermon that actually plays (until he gets hurt) this year.  Then when he's on IR, they will have Gainwell, Scott (ugh) and another vet FA/trade or rookie.

Either that or he gets cut before the season.

Penny is cool and all but I’d still really like to see Gibbs or Charbonnet in an Eagles uniform

Hopefully the signing of Penny and bringing Scott back have zero effect on how they approach the draft.  However, this feels like a 2017 offseason.  There was a loaded RB draft, the Eagles sat on their hands and traded UP for Pumphrey.  They then signed Corey Clement as an UDFA and LeGarrette Blount in the spring once FA cooled off.  Now, those were 2 huge contributors for the SB.  They then made the trade deadline move for Jay Ajayi.

The RB room for the SB was Blount, Clement, Ajayi, Barner and Smallwood.  Absolute bare miniumum in terms of investment.  Late FA veteran RB, UDFA and two 4th round picks used on Pumphrey (cut) and Ajayi.

My gut tells me the Eagles are approaching this year the same.  My hopes for a high impact player like Gibbs are very low.

If the right RB is on the board in RDs 2-5, the Eagles can still take him. Now, they don't have to take one.

One major advantage of investing so much in OL and having a QB who can run is to no spend real resources on RB. Hoping Charbonnet falls to RD3 due to lack of athleticism.

And cheating the salary cap. And on the field

You are correct.

Barkley is fragile as hell, like many RBs. He was hurt to the point of ineffective vs the Eagles this year (Stinger) and he missed 20 games in 3 years before 2022.

Barkley is a 4.2 ypc back since his rookie year and that's flat out ordinary.  Penny is a 5.9 ypc back since his rookie year.

In 10 straight starts from week 14 in 2021 through week 5 in 2022 Penny averaged 101 yards rushing per game at 6.8 a carry with 8 TDs.

There is no one that is above that 'league' in ability.

Since week 14 of 2021, both guys have 5 games of 100+ rushing. Penny in 10 starts and Saquon in 21 starts.

Penny's career carries are not that low just because of injuries. He's also been constantly buried on the depth chart in Seattle. (mostly behind Chris Carson)

If you consider Saquon "fragile”….what the hell do you consider Penny?

And Saquon put up 109 total yards with 2 TDs against the Vikings in a playoff game. That seems effective to me. What was Penny doing?

Penny sucks, because he can’t stay healthy at all. There’s a chance he doesn’t even make it out of training camp. Yet you think he’s better than Saquon….it’s f’n laughable how much of a homer you are

I just don’t see the appeal of taking him in the top 100. Is a good workhorse? Sure. But I just don’t see how he makes the offense that much better than some of the guys who could be had later.

For me the only two guys worth taking in the top 100 are Gibbs and Achane. They’re the only two who might be able to take the offense to a different level.

Not touching Achane at that size in the top 100

RBs in the middle-rounds are historically excellent value. There are so many "hits" especially for 2nd round RBs.

What are we considering middle rounds?  2nd to me is a high pick.  Middle is 4-6 which the Eagles have none right now.

The middle by definition would be rounds 3-5.

1-2

3-5

6-7

Round 3-5 is middle

maybe even not above 4th

I know it doesn’t exactly line up with the middle, but I’d say 4-5 are middle rounds. Round 3 is still a premium pick in my mind so it shouldn’t be lumped into the middle.

If you go by the %, the draft is pretty much only 4 rounds. As of round 5, the odds of players staying on the team by year 2 (let alone start and contribute) fall off a cliff.

Eagles will draft a CB at 10 and trade Slay to a desperate team that gets struck with an injury in camp, a la Bradford. I still think they need to draft a CB in one of the first 2 rounds, with this being Slays last year here and both CBs will be 30+ at the start of the season.

Why not

It’s ok, maybe I eat it too often

Best fruits all around ( IMO )

1) FRESH figs ( maybe sentimental )

2) RIPE jackfruit ( what Juicyfruit was based on )

3) Star Apple/Caimito ( need to go to an Asian or Hispanic supermarket if in the US )

4) ripe Honeydew

15)  watermelon

So will "middle rounds" become part of the highly-debated Blog glossary.

Joining "mobile QB", "franchise QB", and "draft bust", as previous examples.

If someone wants to say the middle-rounds are 3-5, I won't argue.😅

But even within rounds, there's a big delta. A top 5 pick is obviously not the same as #30.

Agree its why they talk about top 100
