I know you like Jeremiah Trotter but this isn't 1999 anymore.  We need LBs that can run.  I think Dean filled in for White and Ellis played MLB when they went second team.  Dean's strenght is supposed to be his play recognition.  My hope is that he could be like a Vilma type at MLB.

I'll take anyone who can make an impact at LB. I'm not very stuck on size at this point. Edwards/White were fine because both groups around them were elite but they almost never made plays on their own.

Was Dean injured coming out of the draft?  I seem to remember talk about that being part of the reason he fell to the 3rd (that and his size).  He rarely saw the field.  Are some people just assuming he's going to be a very good/great player (like Vilma)?  I was concerned at his lack of field time - saw it as a sign the coaches were not liking what they saw in camp/practice.  Am I wrong?

He was supposed to be out to the season due to a medical issue and needing surgery (IIRC) but it ended up being overblown. I forget what exactly it was.

As an organization it seems like we never let rookies play on defense unless if we're forced to or they're on the DL. I feel like it's been that way for a long time.

He was, Giants took him off their board or dropped him down big time. 

25 years old but could have appeal late in the draft 

Gotta do something at LB. I'm going to take a stab at that we trade for someone.

I think if that were true you'd have seen the Eagles retain Edwards or White.  Dean's draft profile overall grade was 6.40, meaning he should be a solid starter within two years.  Being a 3rd round pick meant it was highly unlikely he'd walk right in as a starter.  When I viewed Dean's Georgia film I didn't see him as a first round talent; more like early second round.  He elected not to have surgery on his injured pec prior to the draft -- that scared some teams off and was the main reason for his slide to the 3rd round at the draft.

His size is fine.  Not optimal, but fine.  The average NFL LB is just over 6'2.  Dean at the Combine measured just over 5'11.  Mike Singletary was 6'0.  Jessie Tuggle was 5'10.  Sam Mills was 5'9.  Dean's size won't determine if he becomes a great NFL player or not.

There were rumors about him being injured to try to explain why he was dropping. Giants said they took him off the board for reasons but didn't want to say why publicly, but then Dean said he was fine and was at rookie camp doing everything, so who knows. 

Honestly I'm fine with Dean and Shaun Bradley at LB of they are the starters.  I think Bradley could have taken a bigger role and done well with it for years now.  They will of course bring in a bargain bin Vet at some point to compete but I don't think the situation is as dire as people are making it out to be.

I think it was the last week of March when the Eagles signed Kyzir White last season.  LB is still a devalued position, so many will still be available after the first wave of free agency.  

Still lots of good ILB available.  Zach Cunningham, Lavonte David, Devin Bush, Kwon Alexander .... Jarrad Davis is still out there as a former first round pick.

I like Zach & David. Wagner too if he didn't lose too much.

I'd bet Christian Elliss gets a chance to start before Bradley if there's a camp competition.
