Hopefully we get some CJGJ news soon after this. Any word on Fletch?

Cox is still technically under contract so I'm not even sure he can talk to other teams yet.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Slay looked close to hitting that cliff at the tail end of last season; he's not one of the top CBs anymore.  Paying Bradberry $38-44M sealed Slay's fate.

It's the right move.

Yep. Enjoyed watching him and he was entertaining off the field too….but time marches on. Good luck wherever he goes (unless it’s an NFC east team, then he can get f’d)

Hate it

Is this Post June 1 or no?

Sucks to see Slay go but I hate when players' egos get in the way of reality. Back to #10 being a (should be) lock for CB.

Shaquim Griffin or Greedy Williams and a high pick

Yes

Months ago, I said look out for Slay being moved in some capacity.  There was just no way they were paying him what he was due this year.  I was hoping it would be a trade but 32 year old CB with a huge cap hit and declining play aren't that in demand.  It would have been nice if he had a Charles Woodson skillset and could have moved to safety to add some years to his career.

In a normal year, keeping his contract would be easier.  When you're on the cusp of signing your QB to a potential $50 million/year contract, every penny spent counts.  Sucks that so much of it is used in dead cap but that's where we are.

Next up, Davion Taylor, starting LB.

This opens a gapping hole at Corner. I understand the whole a year early than a year to late based on his age.

So is Slay just not going to be signed by anyone and be out of the league?  Because whoever signs him now will be giving him a new deal.

Makes no sense at all from the Eagles perspective to not at least get some sort of late round pick in a trade for him.

Any teams signing him right now doesn’t have to give up draft picks along with a new contract. That’s the difference. You don’t have to give up draft picks for an 32 year old corner possibly on the decline and give him an extension whetr the guaranteed money goes into his mid-30s.  no team was gonna give you anything of any value draft capital wise and then also have to sign into an extension. signing him as a free agent and trading a pick(s) for him and giving him an extension are two completely different things.

Hence why he’s being released. They tried to trade him. Nobody was willing to give them anything for him because he wanted an extension along with them giving up draft picks.

iPad for the Eagles to be able to trade him they really need it to be a post June 1 trade to get the full cap space they wanted. I’m guessing nobody in the league was going to wait until June 1.

But it doesn't clear cap space until June 1st. I suspect they use this money for rookies, Hurts extension and in-season signings.

Eagles pretty much have to take CB at 10 now even if Carter is there.

Carter should be off their draft board completely.  This shouldn't lock them in to CB at 10.  CB is 3 rounds deep in this draft.  I'm  not marrying them to any certain position at all.  That's how you get in trouble.

I can't remember a year where Howie went into a draft with such a hole at a position. Even though Slay is going, i expect an addition soon to compete for that spot.

Which is not a bad thing at all

Lol you’d think such a basic thing would be understood by posters on a message board

Would make sense that they rather pay Chauncey Gardner Johnson with the money they’re going to free up in June as compared to keeping a 32-year-old slay who might be on the decline. It’s better to get out a year too early than a year too late. Plus potentially you get to keep the 25-year-old safety with the money saved .

Wasn't Slay under contract this year? So they released him because he wanted a new contract with 3 years guaranteed?

Yes, his dead cap was getting out of hand and his 2023 salary was huge. So options were restructure for insane level of dead cap, pay cut, or release.

and he said no to pay cut

What does Quinnen Williams cost via trade?  Would 30 and mid round pick next year do it?

Yeah but that extra money/cap space isn't available until June 1st

Curious if he said he wouldn't play under his current contract
