Wasn't Slay under contract this year? So they released him because he wanted a new contract with 3 years guaranteed?

They couldn't keep him at his current number. Slay didn't want to restructure unless he got more years on a new deal. Slay forced this.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Any chance we can keep her?

Lol you’d think such a basic thing would be understood by posters on a message board

Right? Add on the Eagles probably wanted to make it a post June 1 trade because it maximize the amount of cap space they could get. I’m guessing no team was willing to give you anything of any value draft while also having to give him an extension while also having to wait until June 1 for it to be done. There’s a boatload of reasons why no trade was gonna get done. I’d add teams around the league probably talked to rosenhaus and knew slay wasnt going to restructure and no way the eagles were gonna keep him and bradberry at that price going into 2023 so if he didn’t restructure this was the most likely outcome. So why trade anything knowing this was coming if he refused to restructure

What does Quinnen Williams cost via trade?  Would 30 and mid round pick next year do it?

Probably not. Even if it did you'd have to give him a monster extension that would be bigger than Hargraves.

Ok AJ, you can't be all about "feeding families" and then get upset about guys leaving over money.

Ok, so what are we looking at dead cap as a post-June 1 cut?

Yes

The Eagles will probably do what they did with Jeffery if it’s even possible to get most of the cap savings now.

At his age he should have taken the lower price and stayed with us since we're likely his easiest way to get a ring before he retires

Gotta wonder if cutting Slay actually pushes away CJGJ

Just trying to think who Eagles might go after with that 30th pick like they did years ago with Jason Peters (28th pick)

NM

I said right after the Super Bowl I think especially after what happened in 2018-2020 Howie’s general goal this off-season is to make the Eagles a team with long term sustainability. Choosing young players over older players is a start. Losing Slay will definitely hurt for 2023 though, but they could draft a CB at 10 or who knows possibly even trade for one at some point.

Dies Byron Jones have anything left? He was cut recently.

2023: $8.6M

2024: $14M

Correct

Curious if he said he wouldn't play under his current contract

I’m pretty positive he likely said I’m not restructuring. It basically meant unless he found a trade partner willing to give him a new contract that the eagles were gonna release him. most teams aren’t stupid. They knew this was highly likely coming especially after signing bradberry to his contract yesterday.

The guy that just said he physically cant run or jump?

No.

I loved watching Slay. I thought his 2021 film was flat-out excellent. He's still a good CB. He was elite in the first half of 2022, to merely solid in the 2nd half.

If he wants guaranteed money into 2023, 2024, etc. you simply can't do that.

It sucks, but it's 100% the right decision.

Bradberry gave us a team friendly deal and Slay essentially wanted to scalp us to improve our cap situation. We definitely made the right choice. Hopefully CGJ doesn't get (more) dumb over it.

I don't think they can unless Slay agrees to it.

Agreed. Not giving him that kind of contract at 32 years old. He could severely decline at any time. Best of luck to him wherever he lands.

Its a shame. Slay is great but cant give out that kind of contract at his age

At this point he is already getting released. I’m not sure why it would matter to him. He has stated multiple times he loves Philly and there is no bad blood.

At least in theory could roll over some of the 17.5 mil the save into 2024. I’m guessing they are likely figuring out ways use it though.

Guessing Slay goes to Cinci

I think there’s some confusion with the Slay situation. I don’t think Slay wanted a new deal. I think the Eagles wanted to do a new deal to free up cap space and Slay’s side said we will only accept a restructure if you guarantee us 3 more years.

I don’t think Slay”s side just came out and said "we want a new contract”
