Slay is good, but not as good as he was set to make. Good luck to him. Now here's hoping CJGJ misjudged the market and ends up coming back on a reasonable deal.

Blankenship>Epps

Dean>Edwards

Bradberry>Slay

I don't mind losing who we've already lost. This is a defense that gave up 30 points in the super bowl and consistently looked average against good teams. Granted a lot of that was Gannon's fault, but there was no reality where we come into the season with another all star defense. If we can just offset these moves with at the very least a decent player we'll be alright as long as the offense continues to be top 5

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

But we’re also paying Bradberry 13m$ AAV 3 years after giving an older slay 19m$ AAV. Overall it’s a pretty solid move

From roster building and money utilization, absolutely agree. I just think the on-field production is going to take a hit. Bradberry is a great #2, I'm not sure how well he's suited to be THE guy though.

I like the theory of going forward with the "younger" Bradberry vs Slay, but not sure if Bradberry can be the #1CB Slay was here the last 3 years.

That’s my biggest concern. Bradberry wasn’t asked to be the number 1 corner last year nor asked to play at the level slay was the past couple years when he was traded/signed here. Which probably worked in his favor.

I still would’ve went the same route the Eagles did considering the fact he’s two years younger and it’s essentially a two-year contract over slay at 32 asking for three years guaranteed. But there’s a chance Bradberry is not nearly as good next year unless you somehow get another really good corner on the other side and that seems like the draft. I think now you’re almost forced into taking a corner in the first two rounds that needs to start right away. You don’t have the luxury of just going any direction you want with those top picks. It is a huge hole. Especially if you don’t resign Chauncey Gardner Johnson then you have two major holes in your secondary. And really we don’t know exactly what Reid Blankenship is as a starter for 17 games, so potentially three holes and you still need help at Lb and DT.

it’s still really early in the off-season and I’m guessing will have answers to these questions. but eagles have a ton of work cut out for them.

I mean he wouldn't agree to a restructure to begin with unless he got more years. Theoretically, I agree it shouldn't matter. But this doesn't sound exactly like a clean break.

The Eagles didn’t prolong it though. They didn’t agree and they gave him a chance to go get his money instead of waiting until June. They didn’t have to do that. To me the conversation would be we will let you go get the money now if you help us out on the back end. To me it’s as clean as it can be.

I get it.

But it also seems clear that Howie has a good read on the consensus draft board and is pretty confident that the CB we need will be there when we pick.

Richardson with the great "QB" skill.

I’m willing to bet if the niners have any money to spend slay winds up there. They need a corner. Frankly I’m sure he’d love to go back to the lions now that they are contenders but they seem set after FA.

Can the brass be thinking to sign a slot and move Maddox to safety?

Well, back to CB at #10. Witherspoon was gone.

I definitely think we’re bringing in both a vet and a rookie to round out the position, but Bradberry is probably the #1 now yeah

Could see Slay back in Arizona with Gannon or in Baltimore with Wilson.

Doesn’t Baltimore have 3 highly paid CBs?

So something like this now?

Sign Bobby Wagner

10 - Gonzalez
30 - Trade back 5-10 picks and move up in another round ...  Adebawore
2nd Round - Top available swing tackle (Freeland, Duncan, Bergeron)

Peters, Griffin, etc. I'm guessing Howie signs a vet on a 1 year prove it deal and also drafts a CB. Prior to Bradberry being released, we were staring at Slay/McPhearson last year.

A little repeated news. I thought the longer that CJGJ stayed on the market the better chance the Eagles had for him coming back as the market didn’t play out like he thought. With slay gone I’m guessing they set up that contract to use some of that money when it becomes available to CJGJ. I think the decision was made it is better to slightly overpay CJGJ at 25 than give in to what slay wanted and  use that money to secure the betterment of long-term future of the Eagles D.  may be bigger a regression in defense in 2023 then they initially thought though

We'll see what happens. They would definitely have to add some kind of trigger to it if they went down this path.

I tend to think the Eagles might wait until after the draft reassess where they are and a market might happen like it did with bradberry.

I should know this but I dont.  How often would Slay follow the opposing teams #1?

For some reason I thought Gannon preferred to keep them on either side and not follow around WRs.  But I also thought there were a few games Slay followed WRs around.

Edit: I also wonder if Desai does that a lot

I agree the Eagles lost in the playoffs to basically a guy who hasn't proven over the long-term that he's an elite talent.  It's hard to say whether Mahomes was worth the deal he got and he's getting less than $50 million a year.

ok, sounds good

Niners make a lot of sense as they need corner help. I just don’t know their current cap situation. I could also see a team like chiefs and bengals depending on contract structure.

Think Cox could be back.

Slay didn't travel much at all, although he was memorably on Bradberry's side for the 3rd and 30 against the Turds where he (for some reason) thought Josiah Scott was capable of breaking up a deep pass, so he watched Hilton run right past him.

You know what would be a coup? Marcus peters on a short term prove it deal if he doesn’t get a desired FA contract
