I suspect the Slay contract will end up being that he gets a little bit of money next year as a parting gift when he becomes a June 1 cut.

We’ll see how it shakes out when the real details come out, but I was hoping for more of a pay cut vs restructure.

I think we knew Slay wasnt coming back for a paycut.

But Ill bet Howie didnt do anything too crazy.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Right I could care less as long as it got done he is def still a top corner and a leader here. Just a good dude for morale period

Bad rationale that sticks you with old under performing players

Darius Slay's contract for 2023 was 17M. So he's basically only getting 6M more over a 2 year period. His AYP is 14M.

That is not a bad contract.

This looks like a 2yr $23M contract to me with a phantom third year to spread out the money. Seems fair in this market.

One thing is for sure though, Howie needs to take a CB within the first 2 rounds no matter what. We can not depend on two 30+ year old CBs and often injured Maddox to make it throughout the year. CB needs youth and depth in a desperate way.

Also Bradberry and Slay are not known for their run support and tackling. Even if they bring back CGJ who also misses quite a few tackles.....thats an area of weakness from this secondary. I assumed we would let most of our defense walk and thought one area we could improve on was tackling but does not seem to be the case.

It’s a glorified one-year deal with a bunch of nonsense tacked onto it for cap purposes.

I'm content. It helps out with the cap a lot immediately since we don't have to wait for the cap relief until June 1. CGJ seems pretty likely now.

Witherspoon is a baller. The guy just screams competitor to me. I think he's the type who will embrace facing #1 WRs in his career.

Yup and we need an LB

Slay’s wife isn’t giving you any banana pudding …. that’s for damn sure

14 million per year for an All Pro CB is a good deal for both sides.   Slay has plenty left in the tank.

He shut down one of the best WR’s in the NFL - the same WR that this Blog has been drooling over for since he was drafted.  (Justin Jefferson).

Then was barely targeted in at least 4-5 games and when he was, was a near shutdown corner most of the season.  How quickly some of you forget.   smh

Let's play in soft zone constantly instead though. Gannon logic.

If it’s one then Howie lost the bet.

I was plenty critical of Howie in the past but his results speak for themselves at this point. Sure there are bad deals mixed in but he's been able to recover from them fairly well anyway

I mean I still want to draft a corner in the first but I don’t want to rely on it. I just don’t feel like slay is under performing unless we hold him to standard of a top 5 corner I think he is still a top 10 corner

I think it’s likely a win-win after thinking on it more. We keep Slay and essentially spread out his money over three years - 2023, 2024 and 2025 via a post June 1 cut.

If cut, we have a huge hole at CB and a big cap hit in 2023 and 2024 as a post-June 1 cut.

Absolutely. Personality wise he’s a guaranteed Philly favorite if he comes here. His swag goes up to 11.

Thank god he’s gone. Desai will definitely play more man.

Sirianni will love him. If he has any kind of say.

I am not pleased with all the signings of older players...too many bandaids..we need younger players and there are not enough draft picks this year. I get the short term game, but Howie has to work big picture soon.

Funny how everyone goes from "just play out Slay his last year and let him walk, don’t extend or restructure him” to "it’s a good idea to release him. Cut ties one year sooner rather than later” to now "great extension. Steal.”

So much of this lol

Gilmore was rough in 2021 though (in fairness, playing in Carolina under Rhule will do that to someone). Slay was a top 10 CB this year.

This contract is designed to give cap relief in the short-term and spread out the cap hits. Slay is likely not playing on the team in 2024.

I guarantee you he’ll be playing in 2024. Otherwise just do a simple restructure and avoid all this nonsense and just spread the cap hits without being contractually committed.

Adderly retired. Odd

slayton back in ny is annoying

(We should still draft a CB in RD1).
